Did anyone else ever play Airfix Dogfighter? You got to fly model planes all through a house and break glass and stuff. Super fun times 😁

I don’t understand why no one tries to make something akin to Metal Gear Solid. Everyone misses that.

Splinter Cell! 😎

Highly likely Hitman World of Assassination (the whole new trilogy starting with the 2016 game) will scratch the itch for you, but yeah I appreciate the weird shambles of trying to buy that in its various forms; actually the current state is the simplest: one price for the whole thing.

I guess you may want to wait for it to be on sale though, but I definitely rate it, it’s got many hours out of me.

Steam deck verified too, if that’s of interest.

There is a demo, not sure what’s in it though. Back when they were separate games, the training missions of each game served as the demo level, and I think at some point the Paris mission of the first game was free.

Ah yeah, there’s a demo but I also don’t know what’s in it these days.

As for free levels, they cycle the free level monthly as per the current roadmap. I assume the demo lets you access the free level.

Looks like Bangkok is free until August 16th.

Haven’t seen this concept for a while. I remember playing shit out of Airfix Dogfighter, where you were basically controlling a plane model from WW2 and fighting around the house with other planes. Great game

Check out the Sniper Elite series. The most recent games have a good, challenging, and engaging Stealth mechanic to them.

Second one is stealth based as well. In fact there are even bigger levels where you’ve to cross multiple checkpoints to finally be safe, and while you can try to kill your way out, you usually have ammo for 2 kills max while you’ve to cross 10-15 foes, so practically that isn’t an option.

    AugustMetronome,

Plague Tale was fantastic, OP would probably really like them based on other games on the list.

My kids showed me some Minecraft maps with that concept. Unfortunately I don’t know where they got them.

In the Thief: The Dark Project mission The Sword you can find a gigantic room.

Lots of great suggestions already but I want to throw in another recommendation for Splinter Cell. The series lost it’s identity later on, but Chaos Theory still holds up in my opinion with some great levels.

Man, this post brought me back memories of Unreal Tournament (and 2k4) and now I feel very nostalgic for all those custom maps and weapons. Used to spend so much time playing giant insta-gib deathmatches (and when I had all the time in my late-teens/early 20s). Wish that game is still supported.

    rnd,

What are your opinions on Xonotic? It’s a FPS that borrows many things from Quake and UT games, features a lot of modes and has an active online community, so I think it could provide a similar feel?

I used to play a ton of Quake 3 Rails only Instagib! I was hosting a Q3 server for a while not long ago, but just didn’t have the time to dedicate to it. Might be fun to spin up again. It would run 24/7 with bots so I’d just hop in and out during lunch downtime or something.

    What a throwback.

TF2 has some good ones. Those were the days, along with the original prop hunt, rocket jump maps and sledding.

Mandatory Dishonored 1 and 2 recommendation, but Prey is also very good

There’s a freeware (open source but copyrighted art) shooter called World of Padman, that’s pretty much what you’re describing.

EDIT: You wanted “modern” but, it’s slightly less so. Sorry.

Wow, freeware. Now that is a blast from the past. Definitely gonna have to try that out, thanks!

I get old school Quake vibes from this. I love it.

    llii, (edited )

I think it’s in some way based on a quake engine.

I played it years agon, maybe i need to try it again after all this time.

    I love(d) them, too!

Maybe check out Tinykin, it’s great!

That looks awesome! So glad I made this thread! 😀

    prole,

Came here to say Tinykin. Great game that nobody ever seems to talk about. Hard to recommend irl as well since the name makes it sound like a kid’s edutainment title or something.
