The Eurogamer 100 - 100 best games to play right now (www.eurogamer.net)

Not a particularly interesting article necessarily, but I wanted to share this as the list is actually quite good in my opinion, and it’s laid out very nicely. It’s one page that’s very easy to scroll through. Might find some things you havent played!

My personal ranking of every one of the FlatOut games

FlatOut: A great introduction to the chaotic demolition derby racer. This game laid the groundwork for the entire series and it feels wrong to deny its place in gaming history. This is more of a test of the destruction physics, a tech demo, if you will, with racing elements. But, this is still a great game regardless. The...

perishthethought,

Just jumping in here to say thanks @HotWheelsVroom for this recommendation.

Before this, I had not heard of this series. I’ve been playing FlatOut 2 from Steam this week though and it’s a blast. So thanks!

perishthethought,

4 player co-op will be a treat, especially if they can find a way to keep the servers online longer, or just let us host our own servers for once.

perishthethought,

For about 30 seconds I toyed with the idea of setting up a Lemmy community, just for co-op game finding for fans, but I don’t think there are enough people here really. We’ll see how much interest there is as the game’s launch gets closer.

perishthethought,

I completely spaced on that game, somehow. Wish I hadn’t, for sure.

perishthethought,

I mean, obviously. You might still need them

perishthethought,

I was lost the whole time but it was still fun to watch, somehow.

perishthethought,

The challenge with this question is that not everyone has played in every console, so like, for me, I can only comment on the Atari 2600, the Wii and the XBOX 360.

From that small sample, the wii wins hands down. I loved the motion controllers a lot.

perishthethought,

I think because it was so different from what came right before it: Gamecube, PS3, Xbox.

Waving that Wiimote around was a blast for everyone, gamers and non-gamers alike. Tons of hours of play in this Sports Resort, for instance.

I get what @berttheduck said about long games / serious gamers but can you imagine your grandma trying to play most Switch or PS5 or other new console games now?

perishthethought,

That robot spider looks so sick

perishthethought,

It’s been a few years since I played the game. I should check it out again.

perishthethought,

For me,

  • half life 1 and 2
  • portal 1 but not 2
  • psychonauts 1 and 2

They’re like chicken soup. So good.

perishthethought,

I think it’s the length, is all. Tough to commit to all that again now. It is great, for sure. We reference it in quotes all the time around my house.

perishthethought,

Not most games on f-droid, no. But still worth looking into, imo.

perishthethought,

Chip Defense

A tower defense game with a microprocessor theme.

perishthethought,

The list (for people like me who don’t always remember which company made the games we play) :

…wikipedia.org/…/List_of_Telltale_Games_video_gam…

Turns out, I haven’t played any of their games yet.

perishthethought,

Kill everything about this with a hot poker. If this is the future, I’ll just stay here, thanks.

perishthethought,

… making its way to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One on 21st May.

And it’s already on Steam, eh store.steampowered.com/app/482400/

perishthethought,

Languages have words, use the goddamn words!

I ffeel this in my bones every day. Seems like some people are trying to make words not mean what they’re supposed to mean.

perishthethought,

Coming into this thread, I thought I’d be the only one saying this. Most online reviews seem to prefer the sequel but I much prefer the first game. Something about the sequel’s controls just never sat well for me. I love everything about the first game though and had played it through twice right before I tried the sequel.

Maybe I should try again now that it’s been a while since then.

perishthethought,

In the hour since I posted this I got to the end. Yeah, that was great but I wish there was more. I’d be excited to hear if they ever make a sequel.

But on the Wikipedia page it does say…

On 5 September 2023, Annapurna Animation announced an animated film adaptation of Stray is in development after the success of its first film Nimona (2023). Robert Baird, co-head of animation, felt the game was suitable for adaptation due to its popularity, as well as its buddy comedy and hopepunk elements.

So there’s that. Though it makes me sad to think we needed to make “hopepunk” a word; how is having hope a “punk” thing? :|

perishthethought,

Yes. In fact, as it ended, I hoped it would have a “this is a triumph” kind of ending song too. :)

perishthethought,

Oh! Good news - I still have 11 achievements to earn, so back in I go.

perishthethought,

My son gave me this for Xmas so I got lucky. But yeah, get it when / how you can.

perishthethought,

Dooooo it. Yes.

perishthethought,

Ok thanks. That makes sense. I’m always glad to see when anyone can still express hope for a better future.

perishthethought,

So, that was a passive tech, keeping you in a place, and this actively works to steer you to where you need to be. This seems better in the long run for that purpose even though it’s much more complicated.

The Witness Appreciation Post angielski

I got the urge to play the witness for the 3rd (or maybe even 4th) time again after being slightly disappointed by the Talos Principle 2, and man I cannot express enough how much I enjoy this game. It just satisfies something deep inside me every time I play it. And I know a LOT of people (probably some here) strongly dislike...

perishthethought, (edited )

EDITED: I should play The Witness again. I’ve played it once, mostly completed and loved it. I’m in the middle of the Talos Principle 2 now and want to finish it first. Come to my community and talk about what you didn’t like, OP.

perishthethought,

Huh, OK. That never crossed my mind while playing TTP / TTP2 but I can see how that would be distracting from the puzzle solving.

Funny thing is, after I finished Witness, I went back to play Braid, the earlier game by the same creator and its look & feel just never worked for me at all. So yeah

Any Orcs Must Die fans around here? (i.imgflip.com) angielski

I’m jonesing for these tower defense games. The first edition was released by Robot Entertainment in 2011, Orcs Must Die 2 came out in 2012, OMD Unchained (online multi-player) was from 2014 and OMD 3 was from 2020/2021. They’re all great fun and I am sad that we may never get an OMD 4. Game 1 was single-player, 2 and 3 had...

perishthethought,

I think I’ve played OMD3 the most now and right, that’s largely because of the new options, traps and weapons. Robot did a great job moving the series foreword without removing any of the fun. And the DLC just extended that a lot more.

Billy Mitchell has surrendered (perfectpacman.com)

Billy Mitchell didn’t win his defamation lawsuit against Twin Galaxies. Not only was Billy not in a position to get a financial settlement, Billy’s cheated Donkey Kong scores were not reinstated(as he’s claiming), and his claimed Pac-Man score from 1999 is also not on the main scoreboards. What had happened is that the...

perishthethought,

*Rampage.

It was right there and you didn’t use it?

perishthethought,

🤓 The Talos Principle 2 is taking up my tiny slices of gaming time. Tons of puzzles to solve, a really engaging story to unfold and the music is just beautiful. If you played the first edition (from 2009) it’s totally like that and more. I’m, only halg-way through it but yeah, it’s great and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

store.steampowered.com/…/The_Talos_Principle_2/

perishthethought,

Me too. Great games in their era.

This might work?

www.gog.com/en/games?query=apogee&order=desc:…

perishthethought,

I just got THPS3 for windows (from Neversoft) running on my Ubuntu pc yesterday. So much fun, I find a way to play it once every ten years or so.

perishthethought,

In which era? For me it all started with Combat on the 2600 and I’ve been a vidiot ever since.

perishthethought,

OK thanks for this info. On my next-up list when I finish The Talos Principle 2.
