I played journey for the first time when it was posted to PC and consequentially went on sale on Steam. Very good game. I tried to connect with the guy who I played the majority of it with but he didn’t speak English and I don’t speak much Spanish so it kinda fizzled.
I was going to say replaying but I feel like that limits the question to games like Prey or Fallout New Vegas that have endings and games like The Sims 2 or Cities Skylines where you can play indefinitely end up excluded....
I have over 4,000 hours across all the trackmania games. So that, I guess. Most is 2,000 in United followed by a couple hundred in all the rest. 1,000 in trackmania 2020
Those are tactical shooters. If it’s a simulator like ARMA then the term “milsim” (military simulator) is also used. Good example of a non-ARMA tactical shooter would be Ready or Not, Squad, Insurgency, or S.W.A.T
Oh no boomer shooter means very fast FPS, it just has old-school mechanics like health packs, a large loadout, arena-style gameplay, stuff like that. Things that were considered outdated when games like Battlefield and COD rolled around in the mid 2000s. Like you’re not supposed to take cover in DOOM, but you are in Battlefield.
I bought a PS2 about 6 months ago from a coworker and finally got around to getting it working at a good enough resolution on my monitor. I currently have:...
The other day someone asked this and everyone recommended a $1,400 chair. I can’t afford that, I can’t even dream of affording that. I’m looking for something with good lumbar support for ideally under $400 tops. Does anyone have any ideas?...
Steer clear of anything that markets itself as being gaming focused. Plenty of middle-of-the-road office chairs provide decent back support and I’d even wager most are better for your long term health than a “gaming” chair. If there’s a local office furniture store nearby then I’d check that out. Still might be a bit pricey but I’m sure they have some cheaper options. My current one was like $200 from one of those stores and it’s served me very well. Super comfy, much better than my sibling’s gaming chair.
I got the urge to play the witness for the 3rd (or maybe even 4th) time again after being slightly disappointed by the Talos Principle 2, and man I cannot express enough how much I enjoy this game. It just satisfies something deep inside me every time I play it. And I know a LOT of people (probably some here) strongly dislike...
Basically I was disappointed by the lack of star variety and the very predictable story. The environments were pretty but I also disliked that the devs put more effort into preventing alternate solutions, those were some of my favorite aspects of the first game.
The stars were 100% the biggest issue though. They were some of the most fun parts of the first game, but in 2 once you solved some of them you pretty much knew how to do the rest, and they became a major chore instead of a puzzle.
When talking about the best games of all time people generally mention Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario 64, Halo 3, The Last of Us, Nier Automata, etc. , but dismiss other great games....
When it comes to arcade racers people seem to either forget or just don’t know about trackmania games. They aren’t perfect by any means but id certainly consider them among the best
Honestly I might check it out but they rarely seem to play games I’m interested in (first person shooters) and their management style gives me the ick. Very very puritanical over the most minor things.
This is a good video on the topic While I personally can very much see why they’ve banned some runners, I just can’t see why for others. I don’t agree with everything the youtuber says but it’s very compelling.
In short, the organization just seems very quick to blow minor mishaps way out of the water. They seem to enjoy treating their customers and their fanbase as children, and instead of letting people work out their own differences as the adults they are, they like to step in and handle it themselves. Sometimes this goes well, but most of the time it doesn’t.
Basically, the way they run the event just tends to cause drama and it doesn’t look like they’ll be changing anytime soon. I enjoy the runners and the runs, but the event organizers clearly have a lot of issues going on. There’s a reason you just don’t see this kind of drama with ESA.
Been on the Internet for a while. 100% of people who say this are not entertained and are really saying this to stroke a badly bruised ego. OP, it’s clear to me that you got your ego damaged when people poked holes in your plan to make less money by buying things from shady sites. I hope after your sleep you come back to engage in a healthy manner without constantly trying to act morally superior or at least uncaring about real moral grey areas. Supporting these sites negatively affects real people.
I love skate 3 and have been super excited since they announced the game was in development. I even played the alpha on PC but it was fairly sparse so there wasn’t much to do. I’ve heard the beta tests now are more filled in but I have yet to get invited to those ones....
I tried one of those and I thought it was way too bland. I think it was Skater XL? Session looks neat but I’ve heard it’s way too hard and I’m not really looking for a challenge
And idk what you mean by “off board mechanics”? Hall of meat or…?
Agree with the varied depictions. I did two playthroughs of cyberpunk (before phantom liberty) and female V says similar lines but in such different tones and much more expressive. I.e. when I pick an aggressive dialogue option it sounds like she’s more devious where male V is more of a brute. Stuff like that.
I got sick of trying to make every avatar I have like me. Even if a game isn’t even an RPG I like to mentally roleplay as somebody very different. Having a female avatar helps with that sometimes.
apparently this is in response to a few threads on Reddit flaming Starfield—in general, it’s been rather interesting to see Bethesda take what i can only describe as a “try to debate Starfield to popularity” approach with the game’s skeptics in the past month or two. not entirely sure it’s a winning strategy,...
Presently it seems to be the Game Awards, but that to me feels less complete than E3 was but I can’t really put my finger on why. I guess E3 was usually more than just game trailers (although that was the majority). A lot of them were big demos so you could really get into a game before release.
I watched the Game Awards for this year a few days ago and a majority of them were just 30 second teasers really. I miss the 45 minute live game & hardware demos. Remember Reggie playing a Wii? That stuff was always awesome.
Best example I can think of was the 2018 E3 Cyberpunk 48 minute walkthrough. Even if Cyberpunk was a big disappointment in the end, that trailer was fucking amazing to see.
Intraveneous. Game got a lot of love and as a huge stealth fan I was really into the idea. Got it and hated every second of it. It’s tedious and punishing even by stealth game standards and the story wasn’t great either. Mechanics were poorly explained and it felt like the keymapping was made by a person who had never played a keyboard game before. ugh. I was really disappointed too because it was marketed as a stealth game that didn’t punish you for failing stealth which is true but the issue is that it’s so damn easy to fail stealth that you might as well just go in guns blazing anyway. It wasn’t like MGSV where both options make sense depending on the circumstance. It was more like “stealth is nigh impossible so we made guns-blazing a fail safe for people who aren’t nuts at this game”
Atomic Heart. Yes I bought this game and I am ashamed of it. No it wasn’t for the robot porn. I thought it looked like an interesting Bioshock / Wolfenstein mashup and both of those are my favorites. Game was just… slow. Combat, stealth, everything felt like you were moving through syrup. The character’s english voice acting is also horrifically cringe. Like, just awful in every sense. Made me hate the MC more than the villains.
Dying Light 2. I loved the first so I was seriously disappointed by this. Main issue was really with the movement. Gave me motion sickness dozens of times with how the camera is set up, and I was expecting something like Mirror’s Edge (Catalyst) but it felt just awfully floaty. The game also did… fuck all… in terms of explaining what you… do? so I just was super confused. Uninstalled after like 10 hours in frustration.
Ghostrunner. Played this in December of 2022 but I wanted to add it in as a hot take. Overall great but the boss fights are pretty terribly designed after the first one and pretty much ruined the game for me. Plus there’s useless parkour sections that added nothing. Surprisingly little time spent being a ninja badass for a cyberpunk ninja badass game.
How is it compared to 3 - 5? 3 - 5 are some of my faves and I was looking forward to 6 but I heard similar things from other people. If it’s a similar game experience then I might consider giving it a try.
Why does “Stardew Valley” get it totally right, and the rest not get it right at all?
I think it’s because Stardew has a lot of RPG elements. Developing relationships with the townspeople (romantic and friendship), figuring out the lore, etc. Lots of games that try to replicate Stardew do the farming / labor stuff and call it quits. I know there are probably some people that go into that game only doing farming, but most people I’ve met who are fans of it like the lore stuff.
There was an article on here a little while ago that said games are getting so massive that a 10 - 12 year development cycle is not only unexpected, but should become the norm soon
I’d rather they conserve resources to make a finished game on some platforms than an unfinished one on many. Look what happened when CDPR tried to release Cyberpunk on 9 platforms at once.
Agreed. 3, SA, and VC were so successful that when similar original games came out, most people just called them “GTA clones.” Just like with Doom back in the 90s, where any FPS was a Doom clone.
I can tell from these 6 words the only game with a semblance of sandbox elements you can think of is Minecraft.
Since GTA 3.
GTA is both a narrative series and a sandbox game series but is primarily a sandbox series. In every GTA game you can just do whatever you want once you get past the first 1 or 2 boxed-in missions. I think GTA V is the one that takes the longest to get you going.
when you pair finances (a realm filled with scams and con artists) to gamers (people who are notoriously more gullible than the average person) then it’s not a great mix.
“You can make real money by playing this game” is genuinely one of the oldest scams on the internet, like at all. And gamers keep falling for it.
While many great puzzle games have a fixed number of levels, I’d like to find more with procedurally-generated levels to maximize replay value. Aside from Minesweeper games, so far I’ve found the following ones:...
It’s called the challenge. I won’t spoil how you find it, but it’s extremely well hidden and even just getting there can be a pain without looking up a guide. Once you get there you have something like 3 minutes to finish a variety of puzzles, each of which is randomly generated (one of which is randomly generated based on your solution to a previous randomly generated puzzle). They aren’t insanely difficult per se, but you definitely need pretty good mastery of all the mechanics to get them done.
Unfortunately, and sorry for the spoiler, but the reward is disappointing. Mostly worth it for the steam achievement. If you like philosophy videos then it unlocks one of those. If you don’t know about the philosophy videos then there’s a lot about the game you haven’t found yet.
