Contracting feels like the wrong word. It’s not gaining less money. It’s gaining more. Just companies are now converting their buyouts to simply IP grabs.
Live service games that were fully developed are being cancelled at the finish line because they don't think they'll make that money back. Companies like Bioware have laid off a bunch of developers in advance of marquis releases, but if everything was rosy, they'd definitely want those developers around through launch. Smaller studios have been hit too.

I haven’t super kept up with this game though, so I’m also quite curious what the point even is. From what I understood “classes” in this game are the same as in Dark Souls/Elden Ring. They define your starting stats and equipment but don’t give you any special bonuses beyond that, so making a class-gameplay-trailer feels weird to me. Maybe I misunderstood something though.
Haven’t been following LOTF2 so massive grain of salt but:
In LOTF1, your class actually had a very strong impact on gameplay. It defined your magic which boiled down to buff, direct damage, and an ult. I THINK you could change that on an NG+ cycle but it has been a minute.
Since it is a different dev team and a more modern game, I assume it is closer to Remnant or Code Vein (aka “Sexy goth anime vampires”) where it is an equip slot that impacts stats and spells but you can more easily swap it out.
That’s a really shame, good that it’s still possible to get it but weird to make it available immediately by paying. Just an odd choice, wonder what makes it special, guess I’ll find out once I beat lies of P then get the game and beat it to unlock
I guess I should finally finish the first one, huh? Good game, but I guess I got bogged down 3/4 through it trying to figure out the story and some of the harder secrets. Probably should have just pushed through because I enjoyed the main puzzles way more.
Yeah, I am 3/4 through the dlc so only zone 4 and secrecy zone left. Actually the 1st zone is harder than 2/3 combined with the recorder device star puzzle. The rest I just go through pretty easily. Hopefully secret zone is harder than 1.
Having only really heard the name tossed around a couple times, I don’t know much about them but the trailer for this new one piqued my interest. Is it an action adventure game or more like a point and click style puzzle game?
It’s a first person puzzle game. You move around the world interacting with various elements, such as laser redirection, to obtain the keys needed to progress. There’s an interesting story going on at the same time, which although I didn’t find it super compelling, it was good enough to keep my attention to the end.
Portal (1 and 2) and The Talos Principle are the only puzzle games I've played that not only had a story, but also managed to make the puzzle gameplay actually make sense within the story. Like, there is an in-universe explanation for why you are solving puzzles. I'm sure there are other games that do it, but those are the only ones I've played and they were fantastic. That's a hard thing to pull off -- how do you make a compelling narrative, complete with characters, around "moving some boxes?"
Looking forward to playing the sequel. Also, the original is $3 on Steam right now!
I don’t see how anyone can consider the sound puzzles in the jungle, the Tetris piece puzzles in the swamp and the color theory puzzles in the greenhouse the same kind of puzzle and be arguing in good faith.
The game has multiple “endings”. My only advice: Don’t start a second playthrough or browse any online communities until you’ve reached the credit scroll. I wish someone had told me that before I started…

That observation actually made me go through my library looking for more examples and, yeah, it’s surprisingly few. There’s ‘The Entropy Centre’, which also falls into the “You’re a test subject” category. Other than that there’s the Zachtronics games, where the reason for puzzle-solving is because it’s your work.
In Zachtronics Infinifactory, the setting is that aliens have kidnapped you and force you to build things for them, in return for kibble and other things humans like, such as a little league third place trophy. Always enjoyed that.
