butiloveu, do gaming w Capcom adds new DRM to old PC games, raising worries over mods

Oh no. How dares somebody to enhance his single player experience with mods. Let’s forbid them to modify a SP game they bought, this can’t backfire, right?

Grass, (edited ) do gaming w Nvidia’s AI-powered NPCs are getting better, but still sound uncanny

I haven’t read the article but this headline gave me an idea. In future tech/cyberpunk settings, humans and cyborgs should be animated convincingly like real life humans, perhaps with slight differences to accentuate the cybernetics. Robots should be as they are in real life too. Androids should be varying degrees of Bethesda npc. The variations would be based on the in game lore or the manufacturer. So high end stuff would be more like real humans, but the Bethesda like companies can only put out Bethesda like products with spooky uncanny valley bug eyed stare through your skull faces and body doing whatever in a different direction.

After watching it, basically this. Save this specific version for later and when it improves use the new and the old together and there are your androids. Combine with traditional voice and animation for the humans. Realism out of fake looking shit.

Crunch should be forbidden. It destroys people.

evilsmurf, do games w Terraforming Mars team defends AI use as Kickstarter hits $1.3 million

Awesome, I didn’t know they had a kickstarter going. No such thing as bad press I guess.

BertramDitore, do gaming w [Polygon site redesign] Welcome to the next era of Polygon! We made it for you.

Huh, so now it’s the verge, but less unique and creative. Not to disparage anyone doing redesigns, it’s a valiant effort.

Eggyhead, do gaming w New Nintendo Switch accessory might confirm some leaked details about Switch 2

I’m surprised at how little I am actually interested in the switch 2 but for the prospect of more Metroid prime and Zelda.

Itsamelemmy, do scifi w The dirty secret to making sci-fi believable

I wonder if this was the reason for my dislike of the costumes in one of the marvel Thor movies. Just remember them looking like a cheap cos player outfit made from plastic.

Dagwood222, do scifi w The dirty secret to making sci-fi believable

I remember an old Superman comic. Trapped under a red sun, Supes is powerless, but his Kryptonian supersuit is still indestructible. Supes is bruised and battered but his clothes stay immaculate.

[iirc, the supersuit is made of Kryptonian tech and was originally blankets used to swaddle in infant Kal-El]

squid_slime, do gaming w A handheld Xbox? Microsoft’s gaming chief can’t stop thinking about it

If they’re going with that design then expect a cease and desist lol

TheBananaKing, do scifi w Sting is my favorite part of David Lynch’s Dune

I really liked all the Lynch harkonnens - they were just sleazy and degraded by power: not terrifying supervillians, but the Trump family.

Like, they were still a major problem, but because privilege, not any kind of badassery.

I think that’s an aspect that was missed in the Villeneuve dune, along with making Paul too pretty and heroic.

1984 Paul was a sour unlikelable dick, and that was kind of the point for me.

mipadaitu, do scifi w Sting is my favorite part of David Lynch’s Dune

That’s true, Sting is my favorite part of DL’s dune. He played Feyd-Rautha so well.

Also, Patrick Stuart is my favorite part of dune. He was an excellent Halleck.

Kyle McLaughlin though… He was my favorite part of dune, such an outstanding Paul. Always felt a little mature for the role, but he did an amazing job none the less.

That and Alecia Witt… Man, that creepy little girl, and the oddly mismatching voice… My favorite part for sure.

Dean Stockwell…

jqubed, do gaming w 2K pulls Spec Ops: The Line from digital stores without warning
@jqubed@lemmy.world avatar

I’m assuming people who already bought the game can still play it?

SolOrion,

It’s still in my Steam library. I’m not sure whether it runs, but I can’t imagine it wouldn’t.

MrScottyTay,

They should be able to. These things usually only take them down from sale.

Can confirm, was able to download it after it was pulled and it runs fine.

shani66, do gaming w Palworld’s success is partially born from Pokémon fans’ discontent

I’d be incredibly happy if that were true, but it isn’t. We’ve had proper Pokemon alternatives since before Pokemon even existed and they haven’t slowed that shitty franchise one bit. Megaten is still niche, Digimon is still niche, cassette beasts (the actual goty) has an even smaller audience than those games, if this was major discontent with Pokemon cassette beasts at least would be in a much better place (since it literally released last year, perfect to take advantage of Pokemon’s unending failures). Gotta nip that unwarranted optimism in the bud, gamefreak sucks and will never improve, their fans suck and will never improve.

CaptObvious, do gaming w Capcom adds new DRM to old PC games, raising worries over mods

I honestly didn’t even know that Capcom was still around. Time for a boycott?
