Only fair I hope it’ll cost them a lot.

cbarrick,

It won’t

If you buy a game, which you cannot use in single player mode, without internet access, you are signing up for this happening to you too, one day, guaranteed.

Lost_My_Mind,

“You’re gonna hate the way it feels. I guarantee it.”

Scolding7300,

At this point I’m afraid only government intervention would help (with citizens asking it to do so)

Lost_My_Mind,

Buddy…government doesn’t give a shit about video games. They got wars to start. People to exploit.

Scolding7300,

I think the department that protects consumers isn’t busy with wars

emax_gomax,

I mean, that’s basically all AAA games in 2024. Even songs PC ports which historically avoided DRM and network requirements is starting to mandate PSN accounts. I 100% would prefer to be able to play offline, more often than not it’s unwanted telemetry or BS bloat but that isn’t something we as users can enforce.

whithom, do games w Ubisoft sued for shutting down The Crew

If they release something with paid content, I should get to have that paid content forever, or get a refund. 🤷‍♂️

Lost_My_Mind,

Cries in MMOs from 20 years ago.

Brumefey,

Last week I downloaded Dark Age of Camelot which I have not played nor paid for 20 years, and my character was still there. I was really not expecting them to keep the data for so long without any payment.

Starbuncle,

I understand why most companies wouldn’t do that, but they should be forced to open-source online games that get shut down or otherwise made non-functional.

zalgotext,

At minimum they should provide copies of the software to anyone who paid a subscription, and then enterprising individuals would figure out how to get private servers running

This is great news. Death Stranding is in my all time top 10 so highly recommend it to anyone tempted on Xbox.

I bought it last year but I abandoned it after only a few hours. I have to give it another chance.

Honestly the first few hours are a bit of a chore but keep going.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Death Stranding is one of my favorite examples of how many ideas are out there to make games out of without resorting to making a game loop revolve around violence.

Entropywins,

I don’t know I violently fell very often in that game…

chakan2,
@chakan2@lemmy.world avatar

Eh…I struggled through the second half…it wasn’t worth it. So many convoluted cut scenes to tell you what the last convoluted cut scene just said.

lowleveldata,

The delivering part is actually fun tho. The cut scenes are confusing but they don’t really take that long so it’s fine for me.

chakan2,
@chakan2@lemmy.world avatar

Really? That scene where you’re lost on the beach was at least 45 minutes. It may have been hours…I’d get to the next part, the cut scene would start and Id put up with it for 5 minutes then go mow the grass or something. That was painful to get through.

lowleveldata,

Well ya that was really bad. But it was just that 1 time (also it’s with the credit roll) so I’m going to let it slide. I also started reading a book at that part tho.

PunchingWood,

I recently tried it and only got through the first chapter before giving up, it’s just not fun to me.

wrekone,

Same. I think i could have enjoyed the gameplay but the horror aspect and overall vibe was too offputting.

JackDark, do games w Death Stranding gets surprise Xbox Series X release

It’s interesting that it specifically mentions the Series X. My understanding is that anything released on Series X must also run on the Series S.

elgordino,

Yeah, I think this is just an oversight. It says X and S on the store page.

rtxn,

It’s because xbox’s naming scheme is fucking stupid.

Benson explained that because “the various projects that I am affiliated with in my career are family-based, children-based,” voice acting director Kris Zimmerman suggested that she go with a pseudonym.

That’s gotta be the stupidest thing I ever heard. Just about every voice actor does adult Video Games and kids movies. Nobody cares.

Also she’s been on the IMDb credits for the metal Gear games as EVA for like years

fmstrat,

Keep in mind, 2004.

ampersandrew,

Jodi Benson

ytsedude,

If you’re like me, you might not recognize her by name, but she is Ariel in The Little Mermaid and Barbie in Toy Store.

Watching some old MGS3 cutscenes, I can hear it. There’s no way I would’ve guessed it without knowing, but you can hear a little of Ariel in EVA’S voice.

Thanks. Opening up that site and being greeted with “we share your info with 800+ companies” made me turn around so fast.

Amazing! Had no idea. Happy to have this out after so many years.

essteeyou, do games w Netflix shelving its best interactive titles next month, keeping the boring ones

Getting rid of Barbie and keeping Black Mirror. The headline seems incredibly weird to me.

linearchaos,
@linearchaos@lemmy.world avatar

Probably preferential licensing. Black Mirror is still an active development with them.

Carighan,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I suspect they own the remaining titles. So there’s no cost to keeping them on there. I was also really surprised they keep swinging at the concept, considering how tepid the reception was beyond the original internet hype for Bandersnatch. Which makes sense, people don’t watch movies to actively be ready to press a button on short notice, you don’t exactly sit down on the sofa to go “Oh I know, how about 1,5h of QTE threat?”.

It’s a very cool concept, but one that targets the wrong audience, basically.
