Ah so that’s why the sound on TV and radio news was messed up.

Players Actually Sent Me 500 Word Essays For My Narrative Game (Full Story): (lemmy.world)

Hey today I wanted to show something amazing from the Stanley Parable-inspired game I’m developing. Might be a long read so bare with me: at the end of my demo The Narrator is annoyed that the player presses The Button (in a game called Do Not Press The Button)! So he demands the player to send a 500 word essay on why they...

IMO a gambling label should only be considered if there’s is real money involved in the game combined with chance (ie: lootboxes)

Making the rating boards only look at the old-fashioned method of gambling (casino or casino-themed mecanism) while disregarding the monetary factor doesn’t help anyone.

I hate when a PC game is ONLY available on Epic Games store (lemmy.world)

Nothing more disappointing to me than seeing a game I might enjoy… and then it’s only available on PC on Epic Games store. Why can’t it be available on Epic, Xbox game store and Steam? It’s so annoying, like you have no choice but to use Epic… which I would literally do ANYTHING not to use.

I just wait, not like I don’t have a ton of games to play with. Plus I get to buy it for cheap later on.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Two games I anticipated came out on Steam only, so I asked the developers if they planned to sell on alternative platforms and they did, but considering the game isn’t full done yet (they released it in Early Access) Initially I was annoyed, but after their response (they want to focus their effort on the game before adding the extra burden of managing multiple update channels) I understand why they did, on top of being a small team.

I decided to wait for one (came out on GOG on v1.0) and for the second one I decided to buy it on Steam right away since there’s still a lot of work left.

Good question 🤔

Anyone else bounce around from game to game with no clue what to play?

Used to spend most of my days playing live service games that required a huge amount of time, or big AAA titles that are critically acclaimed. For example, Fallout 4/76, Battlefield 2042, rainbow six, World of Warcraft, RuneScape, Skyrim, Destiny 2, OverWatch… Basically any really big game that you would find on the top 20 of...

When I struggle to find a new game to play, I just go through my backlog. The difficult part is to get started, get used to the controls, get settled in the story. Once you’re in, it’s not too hard to pick it up when you have some spare time.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Especially stuff already shipped in the game code!

mp3,

So many old games from Ubisoft that I’d buy from GOG if they’d strip out their stupid launcher but here we are.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

The later, I want these games decrapified if I’m going to spend money on them.

Let me guess, related to an anti-piracy thing that get its hands way too deep into the kernel? 🙄

Small screen, combined with poor/touch screen controls, and wanting to make money no matter what by pushing ads everywhere because no one wants to pay $10+ for a mobile software.

The only time I consider a mobile a game is when there is an ad-free option available.

Especially with the rootkit scandal from 2005, the PSN breach from 2011, the internal employee data breach in 2023, etc

I kinda get that they’ll do whatever than can to shut down an emulator for a console still selling and available on the shelves though. Not that there aren’t legitimate cases for it (homebrew software and games), but that’s not what Nintendo is concerned about.

But screw that for legacy consoles, game preservation is important too.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s just that it’s hard to actually quantify, so the shareholders will prefer to go with enforcement that forces people to buy the games and console than taking a risk on hypotheticals.

Personally, I never bought a Wii U/Switch and played my fair share of games through emulation only.

That you don’t have admin access to. Good for not fucking it up, bad for freedom.

@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Or if you want something more turnkey, a Steam Deck. Want more flexibility? Put Bazzite on it.

Selaco (Steam)

It’s technically still in early access, but damn I haven’t had that much fun with a boomer-shooter in a while. The level design is top-notch, the music slaps, and the AI is actually good at cornering you.

They’re working on the next two chapters, which you’ll get when they come out at no additional cost. Also, the OST is on Bandcamp.

The extra A comes from the MBAs adding their grain of salt that no one wants.

I chose the Ultimate BT variant because you know, Bluetooth and the Hall Effect joystick.

I bought a pack of ABXY buttons with the Xbox color scheme and layout just to make it look like the non-BT variant.

@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

For the best graphics, you’ll likely want to go with the PC version and a hi-res mod such as this

www.nexusmods.com/…/9

But if you plan on playing on console, the OG Xbox had a slightly better CPU and more RAM than the PS2 and the GCN.

Nintendo doing something good consumer-wise for once and not being a dick? I’m conflicted.

Cloudpunk OST for a Blade Runner vibe.

The only time I will find acceptable the presence of an online service in a mostly single player game is when it complements it, and will still operate gracefully if disconnected.

Fuck these games that just stops working when they pull the plug on the servers.

And I enjoyed both, so I’m eagerly waiting for this one.

A first look at Core Decay's third major city hub [Devblog] (community.coredecay.com)

Core Decay is an upcoming indie first-person action role-playing video game developed by Ivar Hill and Slipgate Ironworks, and published by 3D Realms. Described as a “philosophical sci-fi adventure”, the game takes inspiration from classic 1990s shooters Descent, Deus Ex and System Shock.

@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Hopefully they release it on GOG…

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Phantom Fury was listed but they decided not to publish on GOG mere days before release. They thankfully changed their mind a couple of days ago, a bit more than a month after the release.

mp3,

No idea, it happened right afer 3D Realms went from Embracer to Saber.

I’ll wait for the GOG release, I have Control there already.

@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

What’s the point of paying for early access if need to pay again when it’s stable?

Early access users took a gamble of paying a low price for a likely buggy game, that might evolve over time through user’s feedback and that has a possibility of failing and never come out of early access.

Asking for the early access users to buy the game at full price is a slap on the face.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

So the gameplay style can be quite diverse, now my interest is piqued.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Privacy-wise sure, but feature-wise it has some work to do.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

I’m all in for the return of actual game expansions.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Honestly I’m really thrilled to play the update tonight.

mp3,

I bought the first one on GOG, I’ll wait for the second one to show up there for now.

mp3,

Already played that one :)

That’s kinda of the charm of the game, like Ion Fury.

Yeah, not even a clue to the game type it will be. Not putting it in my wishlist at this stage.
