Day 445 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing angielski

Today’s game is Phasmophobia (to stick with my “horror month” theme). With the Steam Sale i bought a copy for 2 other friends for a full party which makes these games 100% more fun. I suppose that’s the downside to these games though, you kind of need people you vibe with to play with, which means someone has to pay for...

@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t say it often, but iove these posts.

There’s a special edition for $730+tax so maybe they mean that.

But starts at $380, less for return.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Why do you suspect this is good?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

cba

Consumer Bankers of America??

California Board of Accountancy?

Continental Basketball Association?

Collective Bargaining Agreement?

Chicago Bagel Authority?

@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

☹️

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Aha there it is

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Additional TL;DW(but should): they also connect to EVERYTHING and how it was done is actually really impressive.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

No, I don’t remember that at all.

Some did. Some didn’t.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

But I did

Myst 3 and 4 are my favorites in the series, personally. Especially 3.

Also, what is Myst 6…?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

It actually is the game that gave me the biggest jump scare of any game I’ve ever played, too. Which is really really weird.

ripcord, (edited )
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

There’s a couple, but this one in particular:

SPOILERyoutu.be/JSuhE1ndwjcMy wife and I were playing together one night, and both of us went “HOLY SHIT!!” when we turned around and this dude straight murdered us. The thing is, up until that point Myst had been a totally safe place. You walked around knowing that although you might have made a mistake, it could be undone. You just needed to find the right solution. It was warm and comfortable. Even when he ran up the path, we just figured it was the next part of the plot. It was super unsettling to be MURDERED and find out you COULD actually LOSE. Violently. With the dude running straight at you like in a nightmare. It really, really doesn’t help that it is Brad Dourif murdering you.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Is it really that bad?

I’m not much of a fan of the series, but the complaints I’m seeing are in the “I only get 30fps instead of 60fps on ultra!” kinds of things that make me roll my eyes super hard

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Is that what the situation is? I think that’s also only the case on 4k with brutal mode enabled or whatever.

Obviously that’s still not great if so, but I’d still put it in the eyeroll category personally. I don’t really feel butthurt if I have to run at 1080p or enable vlss or not get 120fps or whatever, especially on day 1 for a game.

But I come from an era where there were games you had to shrink some 3d games lower than 320x200 to get a playable 10fps, so I’m also probably feeling some “back in my day we walked uphill both ways - kids today” energy here. What do I know.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Horribly mismanaged? Incompetent project management? Horrifyingly bad predictions, even lying? Big mess of a project? Sure.

Scam? No. They really are trying to do the thing they said they are.

And as you say, even though they’re never, ever going to deliver what they promised because they can’t, they have delivered a thing that a lot of people like

But god DAMN. They said most of the PU features would be done in 2016/17. 9 years later 80% of what they promised still isn’t there. Multi crew has been walked back. Etc etc.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

I remember hearing this joke in 2020.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Glacially is OVERstating how much and how quickly.

Especially compared to their original predictions.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

I read this comment in 2015.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

No one agrees with you

ripcord, (edited )
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

What other platforms besides Steam, GOG, and Humble are there? Epic?

Edit: Oh, you mean for non-PC, I guess?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Why not just come back tomorrow or something?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Why not just wait until tomorrow…?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

2

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Originally I was assumeling only PC, I keep forgetting things like PlayStation even exist :)

Edit: oh, now I realize what I said that was so dumb. So that’s 2 dumbs. Go me!

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

How sure are you? It runs pretty well on some pretty low specs.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

I mean if it was 150 hours (or close to) before it got repetitive, that’s better than 98% of games.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

It plays well enough on a Steam Deck and even better 7-year old machine with a 1060 in it. But not sure how low-spec your laptop is.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

more pervy

Showing examples of your point, even :)

[Update: Valve Responds] Mastercard Denies Pressuring Steam To Censor 'NSFW' Games (kotaku.com) angielski

Updated: 8/1/2025 4:18 p.m. ET: In a statement to Kotaku, a spokesperson for Valve said that while Mastercard did not communicate with it directly, concerns did come through payment processor and banking intermediaries. They said payment processors rejected Valve’s current guidelines for moderating illegal content on Steam,...

Amex is still reasonably good.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Amex typically charges between 1.7 and 3.3%.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Weird. All the info I can find shows a maximum merchant fee of 3.3% + $0.10 per transaction.

Even this article about the topic says the reason is because amex charges .5% - 1% more. Not 6-13% more.

Maybe it varies by country? Are you in NoAm or somewhere else?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

visual novel

Ehhhhhhhhh

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Watching the Game Grumps do House Party is also pretty damn funny but playing the actual game is…less.

ripcord, (edited )
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

What about after it releases? How will I know to keep not buying it?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Gooooood point

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, like any Linux running KDE. With Steam installed.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Read the article?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Oh no?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Unless it was a new Harry Potter apparently.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

A bunch of people are like that, too.

It’s like buying some expensive bottle of wine, thwn chugging half. And throwing the rest away.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Doesn’t hoit!

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

What if they write it down in a single, centralizedz password manager? Which itself could be compromised?

That’s the only way I can keep the literally 100 accounts ive accumulated over the years straight, without reusing passwords.

And while I believe that is reasonably secure in my case, if that got compromised I’d be pretty screwed (well, 2fa would probably still limit the worst of it). But most people probably wouldn’t even be that secure about it.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

In general, why bother getting into one of those conversations anyway? Best to just disengage.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

This is a great response, thanks. Great to see it. Have a great rest of the weekend!
