That may be true but it’s really not worth the effort if it comes with the loss of the original aesthetics and art direction IMO.

Hubi,

The management of the Deus Ex franchise has been bungled and set up for failure so many times. But this is definitely the most egregious one yet.

These are the recommended system requirements. Not sure what they are doing behind the scenes but they are absolutely ridiculous for a game of this scope.

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

I recently replayed IW and the overall looks just seem so much more… coherent? I guess? It’s hard to describe but in comparison the Remaster looks like it’s assets from different games merged into one.

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

Maxing out the meele skill and just beating enemies over the head with the baton was so overpowered and fun. The ragdolls and sound effects never get old. The only thing weighting the game down is the limited level design IMO, something a possible remaster could easily fix.

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

Mankind Divided was the best Deus Ex since the original tbh. Such a shame that we’ll never get a sequel.

Hubi,

It’s Unreal Engine 5, so the bad performance is included by default. I’ve played 4 UE5 titles in recent months and all of them ran terrible even though they were far from groundbreaking graphically.

Hell, I could play the gorgeous KCD2 on high settings at a buttery smooth 60FPS but apparently I need to set everything to the very lowest and down to 720p to get the same result on much worse looking Unreal games.

Hubi, (edited )
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

The weirdest thing to me is that the graphics settings don’t make much of a difference. There’s like a 20 FPS gain between “Ultra” and “Lowest” and I could barely tell which one it is just based on the visuals alone. How do Unreal devs mess up their optimization so consistently across many games? Surely the problem must be somewhat related to the engine itself.

Hubi,

I’m kinda waiting for all the DLCs to be released for my next playthrough. I’ve already spent hundreds of hours on the first one alone.

Hubi,

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this trailer drop. I’ve had this game on my Steam wishlist since 2013!

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

Let’s hope so, such a long development isn’t necessarily a good thing (i.e. Duke Nukem).

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

Have you actually played Rising Storm 2: Vietnam? I thought the setting worked decently well there. And I really didn’t encounter any racism aside from popular lines like “Welcome to the ricefields mfer”. It still has a couple of populated servers going even though it’s kinda outdated compared to HLL or Squad 44.

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

Pretty sure this is due to the dollar weakening by 10%.

  1. Mafia 1 from 2002, that game really shaped my taste in games when I was a kid
  2. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Essentially a perfect video game from start to finish IMO.
  3. Alan Wake 1 or 2, genuinely hard to pick one.
Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

Well to each their own. There haven’t been too many titles of that genre in the past years and this one is right up my alley.

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

Looks good aside from the two outliers. Very excited for this release!

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

I will never forgive Dishonored for glitching the peaceful achievement on the Xbox 360. I went out of my way to not kill anyone and it was still locked when the credits rolled. I remember there was some funkyness with knocked out enemies dying from external factors.

I imagine a lot of indie games can’t really afford to pay or commission artists but still want to have a product that looks presentable. I know someone who does mostly programming but is now considering being a solo dev on a game because generative AI enables him to do it alone.

There definitely exists a spectrum between shovelware, large studios being too cheap to pay actual artists and indie devs having little to no other options.

What are signs that the game devs aren't gamers themselves? angielski

Title is tongue in cheek, of course—they probably are gamers. I get that making a game is complex and full of trade-offs, and you can’t please everyone. Still, there are certain design decisions that just feel like they weren’t made by people who play games regularly.

I swear to god, the entire immersive sim genre is cursed.

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

And Core Decay. That one probably comes the closest to the original Deus Ex but the development has also been rocky so far.

The dev posted an update on the website in April - seems like it’s still in development.

    Ah, it didn’t get marked as a duplicate because of the www. in the link. I appreciate the heads up.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    Bad news in that case, it’s going to be a linear story like Mafia 1 and 2 as far as I know.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    The Mafia 1 Remake was pretty decent so I am hopeful.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    The devs recently confirmed that there will be a Sicilian language option

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    Probably not, but the studio has a pretty good record when it comes to the voice acting. They even brought back some of Mafia 1’s original cast for the remake almost 20 years later.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    Well the game runs well if you just launch it with only one Proton configuration and keep playing on that. The issue is changing the Proton version is recognized as multiple installations by the DRM and it locks you out after a couple of tries.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    The lock picking is still the exact same system.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    It gets substantially easier with every level. I’m almost maxed out and opening even the hardest locks is a piece of cake.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    It’s definitely much more polished than the first installment. I’ve played for around 40 hours so far and can probably count the bugs I’ve encountered so far on one hand.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    It gets too easy too fast IMO. I haven’t done much of the main quest yet but I’m already a invincible human tank and killing armored enemies with single hits. I might swap my sword with a lower tier weapon to get a bit of the challenge back.

    Day 208 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (pxscdn.com) angielski

    Me and my friend continued our Halo Legendary Difficulty “project”. Now that Halo 2 is done, we’re making lightning speed on Halo 3. We’ve gone from almost half a year for the entirety of Halo 2, too 3 more levels left of Halo 3. I also just found out that Halo 3 has 4 player multiplayer, so i’ll have to recruit a few...

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    Yes. I’ve completed every Halo game up to 4 on Legendary and 2 was by far the worst. It’s a miracle my controller survived without getting smashed to pieces.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    Definitely deserved. I’ve played it for 10+ hours so far and it’s such an improvement on the already excellent first game. It even runs much better on the same hardware.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    Pretty sure the first game was just not optimized very well. I can run KCD2 at a very stable 60+ FPS on my RTX 3060 on high/ultra settings. The first one had about 20 FPS less in comparable environments. Not too surprising, considering that it was the dev team’s first CryEngine project. It’s notoriously hard to work with.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    Wow, lucky you! That’s pretty funny.

    Hubi,
    @Hubi@feddit.org avatar

    I’m still sad about Pandemic Studios getting shut down by EA.
