This looks good. The thumbnail for the video and this post is a little confusing though. The game is called “News Tower”.

dracs,

News Tower, yes :)

That’s how I feel about Minecraft, I’ve had multi-year long breaks, but I always come back

Shocked Donkstiny Destiny 2 didn’t get mentioned yet.

Thrashy,

I loved the in-the-moment gameplay and the narrative arc they had going there for a while. Despite myself I’m still invested in some of the characters… but it’s one of those games where I really recognized how all-consuming the engagement treadmill I had been on once I stepped away. It’s probably a good thing for me that it’s in the shitter at the moment, or I could easily get lured back in.

Oh, and the r/DtG mods deleted my highly-upvoted Lightfall “lore/prediction” shitpost that was a massive wall of text winding up to an Attack on Titan pun, so fuck 'em.

Arkhive,

Yeah. I’m so captured by the setting and enough of the characters that I’m seeing the light and dark saga through to the end, but I largely agree with the sentiment towards the game at the moment. I’ll let the studios next release come out and really gauge my interest carefully. Bungie has set my personal style for gamefeel and almost every game I enjoy, I enjoy due to its moment to moment similarity to destiny. Robo Quest, Metal Rising: Hellsinger, Bullets Per Minute, to name a few PvE based games.

That goes all the way back to playing halo on 2 original Xbox’s wired together in the attic of my friends barn at 3am, and even back to Marathon as a younger kid. On top of that, compared to pretty much every other major FPS title, the studio stands behind a lot of causes I align with. The representation in the game, and seeing myself and people like me present in destiny’s vision of the future un-ironically gives me a warm feeling.

I was just talking with some friends that an extraction shooter with world events the complexity of destiny raids would actually be super cool. A fireteam activates a raid (like sea of thieves forts) and begins diving into it, but then other teams can follow them in as the original groups clears encounters and puzzles. Maybe the teams following them in have some smaller scale mechanics to do, then there’s a heavy fight back out with whatever loot. Could make for the gameplay loop gambit could have been. I think the studio has potential to do the PvEvP really well, but we shall see.

GTA V offline, of all things. Haven’t played it in years and found out its carpool grew quite a lot, matching the forza games and currently scratching my itch for an offline open world car game with a crapton of cars.

dumpsterlid, (edited )

I have been espousing its merits so much that I surely look like a shill but check out Motor Town as a low poly open world driving game that centers on supply chains of deliveries and basically GTA side job driving quests fleshed out to an entire genre with pizza delivery on mopeds, box vans delivering packages, garbage trucks, taxi drivers delivering urgent passengers as fast as possible, tow truck jobs and tractor trailer jobs etc….

The physics and driving feel are superb (very realistic unlike GTA V not that GTA V’s driving isn’t a blast), and there is a diversity of vehicles from a wide variety of sports cars to pretty much any type of work vehicle you can think of. You can tweak, tune and engine swap to turn basically any of them into a fire breathing metal box that transports you as fast as possible to utter ruin. You can play multiplayer collaborating with others on deliveries or just play singleplayer.

It’s early access but it’s got a demo so check it out! If you are anything like me you will throw your fists in the air and angrily shout why nobody has made a game like this for you before lol when you try it. I know it doesn’t look like a racing game but you can absolutely play everything in the game except bus driving like a racing game (and you can just have AI do the bus driving if you want to do bus stuff).

Tooling along in a semi with a trailer at 80mph on a windy country road and plowing cars out of the way like soccer balls for fun has never felt so good in a video game.

It took me way too long to solve the first, easy ass puzzle in this game. It’s dark. You can’t see anything. And your head hurts.

Solution? Open your freakin’ eyes.

Actually, it was to turn on the light.

I knew a co-worker who was really into a lot of early and more modern text adventure games. He said the babelfish puzzle was one of the hardest puzzles put in any text adventure game, past or present.

I never got far in this game because I was too young. I’d love to give it another go.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I spent days on it. I did finally get the Babel Fish. I think with help by talking about it with friends who had solved other parts of the puzzle… but it got even harder after that!

spoilerFirst you had to put together the improbability drive, then you jumped into different characters’ bodies and had to survive in their bodies AND bring back the items you need to make it an infinite improbability drive and I didn’t get past that, but apparently after that, you land on the planet Magrathea and you have to figure out how to get the door open and that’s where the game ends.

Hyperreality,
surewhynotlem,

Oh god, it’s just as hard as I remember.

Thanks!

Also tried getting into it. I put ~10 hours in but I just played less and less every day until I stopped entirely. One thing I never really got used to was the camera controls for example.

But I also played alone, so I think this game is more fun with friends.

I’m just so clueless what to do with classes, jobs, etcetera.

Don’t worry about trying to pick the “best” or “strongest” thing, just do the thing that sounds fun. There are different ways of handling things so you don’t have to worry about doing it the “right” way, just pick something that works for you and go with it. If you really want you can worry about maximizing your build or playing a different class in a second run.

Baldurs gate 3 on my steam deck. Great game so far though I wish it ran a bit smoother on the deck. Maybe I’ll try to tweak it some more.

I'm in my third play through of it. It's such an amazing game, so many emotions and amazing storylines.

    Where are you up to?

    blackbarn,

In the goblin camp first playthrough. I’m a human bard, been interesting

Oh man, you've got sooo much to go! It's great. I love that whole starting area. It's so much fun.

My second play through was a wood elf bard. She was pretty fun to play. Considering I'm a barbarian player usually. First play through was a half orc barbarian, she was really cool.

in my experience, you can get pretty smooth gameplay at the cost of graphics, or pretty decent graphics at the cost of smoothness and fps.

I have mine set to pretty ok-ish settings for both. but then I tend to swap between handheld and docked for most games. so I’m kinda used to the graphics by now.

hope you find a setup you like <3

    blackbarn,

I had okish graphics at 45fps, dropped it down to 30 and it feels overall better now

    MrGerrit,

I’ve played a few hours now of BG3 and i have a hard time getting into it.

I never played a D&D game in my life but want to give this a try.

I’m just so clueless what to do with classes, jobs, etcetera.

But the game looks great and story is interesting so I’m eager to see how it plays out.

Roboquest! It’s a combination of DOOM and Borderlands, but in roguelike form. Super smooth gameplay, well optimized, and it looks great.

    deejaypanini,

Shame that it’s only 2 players!

    BruceTwarzen,

I olayed that as well. Really fun. When i started i thought that it would be a nice way to kill an hour or two. Suddenly it was 5 hours later and 3 in the morning. Have you played crab champions? Really smooth gameplay and like roboquest on crack
