My Logitech G5 is like 18 years old and other than being dirty it has basically zero wear on it. Only thing that’s falling apart is the braiding around the wire

thejodie,

Mine still works too, got it at BestBuy on clearance when they switched to the 2 side button G5. It just doesn’t fit my hand well anymore.

I still have the same Microsoft Intellimouse that I got in 2000 when I went away to college. IIRC it was one of the first that used optical tracking vs ye old ball.

fetter,

My parents bought a new mouse when I was a kid back in the early 2000s cause we had a crappy view sonic one that came with the pc. The new one was a Microsoft one and it didn’t work cause it needed xp and we had ME. Back to the viewsonic mouse it was for another 20 years until I bought them a Logitech wireless one on a pc I built for them a few years ago.

Wild how the cheap stuff works well for so many years!

crimroy,

Did your parents keep ME for 20 years??? I had it in my first PC and I seemed to be the only person on the planet who had no issues with it, but even so, I was done with it after about a year

fetter,

Nah we upgraded after a few years. But ME was a struggle! Had so many crashes in Diablo 2 and EverQuest. Thats all that mattered to me.

theangryseal,

I hated Windows ME but I loved that time. I’d love to go back and chill for a couple days.

Funny thing though, I hated that time while I was living through it haha.

mindbleach,

I’d probably still be using my CeBIT-branded IntelliMouse Explorer if it hadn’t been jostled by too many backpack rides. It was just plain good.

On the realm of porn games at least, gay men are well served (provided you are also a furry).

How about just playing the story as intended. Not everything has to be individualized.

CaptnNMorgan,

But this meme is specifically talking about ONE game where the main character is gay, most games aren’t individualized but some are and they’re usually straight while this one is potentially the only gay one and people that complain probably just shouldn’t play it

Shit, my steam name was The Cool Side of the Pillow for over a decade and I didn’t even have to talk for people to assume I was a girl, for some reason.

Am I supposed to be offended now because I had to play a RC car in ReVolt? Please… Games are about having fun, not to make a political statement

Meowoem,

I kinda like political statements in my games, and honestly I’m actually fine with fighting a meme war with the super-straights.

Admittedly I’m bi so can enjoy anything but I’m confident queers have enough creativity and talent to create some genuinely amazing narrative gaming experiences. we should be collaborating on open source homoerotic experiences and immersively gay open worlds in a way that puts the corporate friendly triple a studios to shame.

I haven’t been inside any triple a gaming studios but I’ve talked to a lot of catboys and daddydoms online who have decades of experience in the tech industry so I know we have the expertise and intelligence to make it happen if only we can as a community find the will.

ArcaneSlime,

I like political statements in my X sometimes, and sometimes I want to use my interest or hobby as an escape from all that shit explicitly. Neither is wrong imo, the only thing I don’t like is when they suddenly switch (most often an apolitical comic or band suddenly releasing a political issue or song, it’s usually not the other way around, and for some reason breaking my escapist immersion irks me more than a political comic suddenly doing some apolitical issue or artist/song), but of course it is their right to do so, as is my right to hold my opinion and not listen to the song or read the issue.

trigonated,

Funny thing about re-volt is that you really are playing as an rc car, not even a person piloting the rc car. Iirc from the lore the cars are sentient.

MindSkipperBro12, do gaming w Oh trust me. I know your frustration better than you do.

Sounds like a pity contest.

HipHoboHarold,

Its more so none of us complain that we play straight characters. Because it’s not a big deal. We get straight people exist. We don’t hate straight characters. So if we can do it and be perfectly fine and not feel like it’s being shoved down our throats, then why can’t straight people play gay characters? Yall get the vast majority. Just play this one with a gay character.

Or don’t. Theres thousands of games that come our every year. So much that I could make a list of games that have come out in the last 2-3 years I was excited for, never got around to, and will probably never play, because as an adult I just don’t have the time to play all the games I want to.

We have so many, that if yall stopped focusing on the one few with gay characters, you can find plenty of others to enjoy. Why bitch and moan once we get a game with gay characters?

Half the time it’s not even main characters. I remember seeing YouTubets throwing a fit because one side mission has you help a male high-school student ask another boy out to prom. Completely optional. Easily skip able. You do the mission, and them move on. And that was too much. It’s not even when we have a main character. It’s when we exist.

Boulders Gate 3. The option for a queer character is there. The option is too much.

Jarix,

Boulders Gate 3. The option for a queer character is there. The option is too much.

Could you elaborate? I only ask because i havent installed the game yet and dont understand what you mean and would like to know how it will affect game play. What does too much mean here?

Much appreciation if you do answer but thanks anyway for saying something if you dont want to.

HipHoboHarold,

No problem. Basically I also saw posts about how BG3 was also “woke”, not just because you can play as a woman, but also because you can romance anyone(or at least the main NPCs). So you can be straight, gay, lesbian, or even romance multiple people and be bi. It’s all an option and you’re not forced to romance anyone if you don’t want to. But just the option being there was enough to get people to throw a fit. Even though having plenty of options is kind of the point of the game.

aaaa,

This game takes it a step further during character customization than most do. You get to choose body type (as in feminine vs masculine, though they don’t call it that), voice, genitals, and gender (pronouns). And none of these things are tied to any of the others. They can all be mixed and matched however you see fit.

The only way these affect gameplay is just how people refer to your character in dialogue, and what your character model looks like in the cut scenes.

Maultasche, do gaming w Nothing but greed

Then how was Capcom able to have them in Ōkami?

Ephera,

I don’t know, but there may be technicalities involved.

I’ve heard before that FIFA was able to have them, because the loading screen games were close enough to their actual gameplay (it was a simplified scene where you could pass a ball between 2-3 soccer players, if I remember correctly).

Well, and then there’s also many games where the loading screen is ‘hidden’ in a section where your character takes an elevator or squeezes through a narrow path.

Ultimately, what even is a loading screen?
With a bit of a transition, you could argue that the minigame is actually part of the gameplay and it just happens to load things in the background.

So, it could also be the case that Namco never would have sued anyone, because a court clarifying the applicability could cause their patent to lose all value, as then everyone can do it in a non-applicable way.

Maultasche,

Maybe this is also connected as to why these mini games were absent in the Wii and PS3 versions and only came back for the latest remaster.

If it was patented in 1998 then that patent expired in like 2005, right?

K3ejomes,

In the US patents last 20yrs so it would be 2018

Dave,
@Dave@lemmy.nz avatar

Oh man, that thread on reddit I read years back was wrong!

hansl,

And there was a lot of discussion around that time on that topic. Not sure why no one is doing them. Namco also only did it for a few games.

I guess it doesn’t make a lot of sense or is too complicated? With the latest hard drives and software loading screens are too short anyway. We’re not doing RE2 anymore.

Piemanding,

I’m assuming it is hard because it would require a new graphical mode and that would up the complexity a good bit as they don’t want it to break anything. Another issue would be the fact that loading screens almost always max out at least one pc resource (cpu, drives, ram, etc) so you could get back to gameplay faster. It would cause lag in the minigame unless they went out of their way to avoid maxing those out.

Meowoem,

Yeah you’re almost always going to increase loading time and for most people who don’t play the mini game it’ll just be annoying. Most people look at their phone if a loading screen is longer than a few seconds anyway or have a drink or something.

I think the main reason is that you’re trying to dump and reload game assets quickly, it’s far easier to do that without also doing something else

Earthwormjim91,

And it expired in 2015.

It’s been 8 years since it expired lol.

Gave Valheim another shot.

The last couple times I’ve tried it I struggled picking up momentum and progressing in the game, as the initial tutorial seems to be missing a few key steps so I end up spinning my wheels not knowing what to do next.

This time I had Christmas break time to fuck around and find out. Pushed through the initial hurdles and actually made decent progress, including soloing the first boss. It’s a solid game so far, but it could communicate its expectations a bit more clearly.

I picked up Monster Hunter World again last night after playing some Dark Souls Remastered and itching for more of that style combat. I forgot how much better it was than Rise, and I never got around to playing Iceborne. Having a lot of fun with the new stuff, and I think it’ll be my default game this week.

Against The Storm. It’s a surprisingly addictive game.

Hillock,

Started playing yesterday, I can agree. I just need to get used to playing slower. It's so easy to put it on speed three and then suddenly I am falling behind and can't deal with the issues anymore.
