Edited: There was a recent patch this year. Which supposedly has fixed the technical problems that made Spacer’s Choice unplayably bad. I still can not recommend it because it was broken when I tried to play it pre-patch, but it has supposedly been fixed. Edited to slightly soften the tone against it.
A lot of comments in this thread are confused about what “Spacer’s Choice” means. This is the “remastered” version of the game that was not done by Obsidian. It is a Game Of The Year style pack that includes all the DLC. The upgrade flowchart picture on the storefront page is needlessly confusing, ignore it. As of May this year, this version was very buggy and unoptimized. Texture pop-ins and laggy framerates are widely reported. For me personally I couldn’t even get it to run at all.
If you have heard bad things about this edition performance wise, it’s in the past. Played it around 1 or 2 months ago and had no issues whatsoever.
Game itself is quite good. Liked Fallout better, but had fun with this one as well. Combat might get a bit dull after a while, but everything else was alright. Main story was solid, but don’t expect anything groundbreaking, same goes for side missions and DLCs. World / atmosphere was really cool, companions and dialog options were a lot of fun. You can take the usual evil/good path and slightly change the world (available missions) around you.
I’d like to thank all the teenagers who used their mom’s credit cards to buy Fortnite skins so I can enjoy free GTA V, Control, Star Wars Battlefront, and now this game.
It was not ignored because of Disco Elysium. In fact I had never even heard of DE myself until like last year.
The reason it was “ignored” (it really wasn’t though) is that it was a pretty mid game.
ETA: it was also hyped up to be the “Bethesda Killer.” IGN was literally posting articles and videos saying things like “Bethesda should probably start looking for a new job.”
I don’t play games as much as I used to, but I had a lot of fun recently with Carrion - you play an alien hive mind eating scientists and fighting security through an Area 51 style facility.
I played that on Game Pass, when it launched, and really liked it. Although some of the movement could be a bit frustrating, since you are just a blob of meat.
Kerbal Space Program 2. The new For Science! update finally made the game fun and performant! And because I suck at the game, I needed to send 4 rescue missions to return Valentina from the Mun.
Base game, not including mods? It’s comparable, especially if you didn’t like career mode and preferred science mode. I can see where they’re going and I really like it personally.
However, if you also include mods, and you kinda have to… the sheer quality and amount of mods that really elevate ksp1 is going to make the answer to this question “no” until it has been out for years. You simply cannot compete with a decade of overhauls, dlc sized expansion mods, and visual upgrades.
The only mod I used in KSP1 was the Engineer Redux(?) mod, but I uninstalled it when advanced orbital info was added to the base game. The science mode couldn’t keep me motivated after finishing the tech tree with a research lab on minmus, and the career mode eventually gets too easy and too hard at the same time. I find KSP2’s exploration mode to be a perfect balance of the two, so I’m having a blast!
I played the one, all the way to the big fight at the end, failed it and got too exhausted to reload and redo it… But it was a really good game though , it’s true! Is the 2 as good/better?
Patch Notes: Early Access - v0.8.3.0 – Build 264901. This patch was released on 14 November 2023. It is the last patch of Update 8 development, bringing its features to the stable branch.
I was almost interested in Season of Discovery but then I remember Blizzard’s (lack of a) policy on bots. For me it really devalues the time and effort I put into the game when a quarter of the playerbase are botting and ruining the economy.
Playing through my backlog, and finally gathered enough courage to play and finish Soma, and now I’m going through the Turing Test since I felt in the mood for a Portal-like game and I finished the Entropy Center not long ago.
