No. R/gaming was a clownshow of the same low effort garbage posts. Have a day of the week or push it to another sub.

Reminder that Microsoft is trying to shift Windows to be entirely cloud based, so this can easily happen overnight without your consent. You don’t own your OS. Linux is the only way, unless you’re one of those strange BSD folks.

I switched to pop os recently and I’m never going back to Windows. It’s easier now than ever to switch to Linux, even for gamers. Steam, proton, and wine have made running your Windows apps and games in Linux so easy. You’d have to have a very specific use case to justify staying with Windows now.

Here’s a fun one: I own two video capture devices, an Elgato HD 60 S and an Avermedia LiveGamer Portable 2. Both do not work in Linux. I found a simple USB HDMI capture device that works in Linux and cost a fraction of what thosmother overhyped ones cost me. It works way better than they ever did. That was one of my last adjustments. I can still stream my Switch and PS5 on Twitch, no problem.

That’s a pretty niche use case and it was easy.

Zoidsberg, do games w Halo Infinite lost 98% of its players on Steam since release

This whole thing is especially heartbreaking because at its core, the game is great. Running around and shooting feels better then Halo has in a long time. It was just ruined by corporate fuckery.

Honorable,

I’m a bit out of the loop… what corporate fuckery?

trifictional,

In a nutshell: corporate greed. The only part of the game that was live service was the paid cosmetics.

At launch, their entire idea of more ‘content’ was just visual cosmetics. If you look at their communications at the time it will all make sense.

They constantly referred to an internal ‘live service’ team separate from the rest of the game, and that team was effectively the ‘cosmetics team’.

People talk about contractors, but this was the real problem. They thought they could get away with barely adding any real content and selling tons of cosmetics.

How does that work though if you rent a car? You don’t own it, but still stealing if you “steal” it.

atlasraven31,

You’re preventing its use by someone else (assuming you bring it back in one piece).

That's why I claim ownership of every hotel room I've ever stayed in and every car I've ever rented.

riquisimo,

When you rent a hotel room or car you’re preventing others from using that hotel room or car.

Do we really need excuses for pirating media?

I pirate movies because I think digital access to them is overpriced, goes to the copyright holder instead of the creators, it’s convenient and most importantly because I can.

I can’t pirate going to the cinema, nor can I afford to build my own, therefore I gladly pay to have a seat and enjoy a movie there.

Edit: I thought this may be relevant to the movies example I gave. I don’t think movie studios, giving nothing back to society after massive profits are the ones we should debate the morals of stealing with.

Major reason not to buy ebooks from amazon: you can’t lend, give, exchange, sell them and you may lose all of them if you anger the right people. They are not yours, you are not buying them, you merely paid for conditioned access to them.

Can we not become subreddit by posting this shitty screenshots trying to justify our reasons? Just share your media and enjoy it.

This is what I’ve been saying. We don’t even own digital products, all it takes is a server to be taken down or an account to be lost and all you bought is taken away. Pirating also can’t be stealing because we aren’t taking something away from someone else, other people are not deprived of the chance to have this just because we downloaded it.

Our current system of copyright is flawed and only serves the interests of corporations.

I have been replaying Divinity 2. I had forgotten how good this game plays and looks. AND I was watching a "Let's Play" of DOS2 and noticed I missed some areas and stuff I didn't know I could do. So much dept and different ways to do things.

I was replaying DOS2 on my Linux gaming PC with an XBox controller because I think the controller will play similar on Baldur's Gate 3.

Fun days ahead soon exploring the world of Faerun and Baldur's Gate.

I really liked Obduction. It was a rock solid puzzle game but omg the loading screens were a huge detractor. You had to move between multiple areas to solve some of the puzzles and to do so you got a loading screen which took it’s toll on the immersion factor.
