sparky, do games w Next Xbox Rumored To Launch In 2026 With New Call Of Duty

I mean, the current Xbox is already hiding Windows under the hood. Always has, hence the original project name „DirectX Box“ ;)

@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

You can’t run a Windows executable on an Xbox as things stand. That’s the difference that a lot of us are expecting to go away.

sparky,

You can run UWP executables! If you publish to the MS store, distribution on Xbox is automatic unless you opt-out. But you’re right that you can’t run an arbitrary exe.

ssj2marx, do games w Bethesda Is Charging $7 For A New Starfield Mission, And Players Are Upset

Bethesda announced that players could download a new series of missions for a group known as the Track Alliance. The problem is that The Vulture is the second mission in the Tracker Alliance, and it costs $7 to buy. But it’ll actually cost players $10 because they must purchase 1,000 Starfield creation credits to afford it.

So they put the first mission out for free, but it turns out the first mission was a fucking advertisement. I remember being super pissed when Dragon Age pulled this shit.

And of course they pull the classic cost-obfuscation trick because it would just be far too convenient to just be able to buy a DLC for actual money and then download it.

A_Random_Idiot,

I’m glad I’m not the only one to remember that Dragon Age: Origins quest.

Its the specific and singular reason why I never bought any of the DLC, or any of the sequels.

Please highlight where I said all video games were good at a period of time.

    Goronmon,

You said that modern games were terrible cash grabs, which it’s different from how games “used to be”. So I’m interested in which period of time “used to be” actually encompasses.

It’s not the already released games they’re excited about. It’s the IP ownership. Why create something new when you can recycle old ideas for cheaper?

Buggywhip salesman demands accomodation from the horseless carriage industry.

Yes, I’m upset at the licenseification of the gaming industry as much as the next guy but that died long before physical media did. As long as a game can die without its first-party servers, games are leased and not owned.

nosurprises, (edited ) do gaming w GameStop Boss Says Disc Drives Should Be Required On Game Consoles

I agree. If they ban you by mistake (which happens), it can be very hard and even impossible to appeal successfully. There were many stories about that. No one guarantees that your story will gain traction and attention, forcing the company to help you in order to avoid loss of reputation. With physical copies you don’t lose your library at least.

Affidavit, do games w Starfield Is Bethesda's Lowest-Rated Game On Steam

Game is kind of ‘meh’ at the moment. I paid more for this game than any other in my life, yet I am disappointed in what it’s achieved.

The outpost mechanic is completely and utterly pointless, inventory management is a disgrace, questlines are forced and inflexible.

I will revisit in 6 months or so in the hope that modders finish making the game that Bethesda started. I have learnt my lesson to not buy a Bethesda game straight away though.

    Astroturfed,

I waited for the reviews, and decided if I play it it will be a pirated copy…

    chatokun,

I forgot I was paying for game pass, so that’s why I’m playing it now. I’m having some fun, but the revisit when mods finish feels pretty true. I only have one loaded atm, but definitely considering some others.

    neokabuto,

The outpost mechanic is completely and utterly pointless

I’d say it’s worse than pointless. The only reason I can see to use it (outside of XP farming) is to make the grind for research/crafting easier, but it even fails at that since you can buy/loot any resources you need for less than it takes to set up the outposts. It can’t even make one of the other half-baked systems less of a pain to deal with.
