I need to rewatch Muppet* Treasure Island at some point. Such an awesome film.

victorz, do games w Sony Sues Tencent Over Horizon Lookalike

Same:

  • Music
  • Art style of the creatures and environments
  • Overall concept and ideas, generally, it seems

Different:

  • Character design, a little thinner, more Asian game looking. People who are anime/hentai thin and are performing physical feats they shouldn’t be expected to be able to do. Less texture and detail to the faces and such. More smooth, gen AI look and feel. Less/cheaper work behind it I’m assuming.
  • Traveling, actually looks fun as hell compared to the Horizon games. Riding many more animals of different types and in/through different media, like water.
  • Fighting gameplay, looks like absolute ass, bro. Same old ground-based regurgitated melee style fighting you find in every single Chinese game with fighting in it. Looks so boring. Move in, hit, move out. Repeat until finished. I sleep.
  • Maybe able to clone beings you have destroyed? I dunno. Could be cool if that’s what I saw.

I low key would want to play through this in an any% kind of way. Just to see if it’s fun. But the battle sequences did not sell this well, I have to say.

Good luck to all.

ArchmageAzor, do games w Sony Sues Tencent Over Horizon Lookalike
@ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world avatar

Do they have a case? As long as Tencent isn’t actively copying Horizon beyond an aesthetic, are they infringing on anything?

scutiger,

The key is whether or not someone would confuse one franchise for another based on the aesthetics. People were losing their minds over Palworld being a ripoff of Pokemon when it first released.

I could see it going either way. IP law is a mess.

echodot,

There is the additional case that apparently $0.10 wants to licence the IP. (Autocorrect has just changed the name to a price, and I’m inclined to leave it because it’s funny)

It sounds like what happened here is they developed the game and then approached Sony for the licence assuming they were going to get it (which is a bizarre thing to do because Sony were never going to give them a licence, anyone who knows anything about how Sony operate knows that)

brsrklf,

Not sure I care about who will win that one, but if Sony can prove tenc $0.10 actually came to them to get a Horizon licence, only to release “can’t believe it’s not Horizon” shortly after not getting it, that would be quite the smoking gun.

It’s basically a proof that looking as similar as possible was their intention all along.

But_my_mom_says_im_cool,

They asked for the IP to horizon when making it and made a “different” game when told no

There’s got to be irony somewhere in Sony striking a deal with Palworld, then suing another company for copying the art of their game.

Agent_Karyo,
@Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world avatar

Is the art of Palworld similar to Pokémon?

simple,
@simple@piefed.social avatar

There are some monster designs that are very similar to Pokemon, but FWIW Pokemon has a lot of simple designs inspired by real animals anyway.

Maultasche, (edited )

Interestingly, most of the copied ones are the non-animal designs like Goodra with Liligant’s flower

Some are the designs are pretty close I will admit, even though I don’t think Nintendo should be able to randomly shut down gamea that are vaguely similar to Pokémon.

psx_crab,

That’s why it’s irony, Sony support knockoff, got their game knockedoff and mad about it.

Agent_Karyo,
@Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world avatar

But is Palworld really a knockoff? Some of the designs are similar, but I didn’t get the impression that whole game is a knockoff.

If we used Nintendo’s logic, we would never have any other CRPGs beyond Ultima. I am don’t support such measures.

psx_crab,

Yes it is, the design of some of those monster at least.

I’m not here to defend anyone, i just find it funny. If you wanna defend sony or whosthatpalworlddev, you be you.

Agent_Karyo,
@Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world avatar

I would rather have more competition in the market.

psx_crab,

No one saying otherwise.

Blisterexe, do games w 8BitDo Pro 3 Controller Announced with Swappable Buttons, Available for Preorder

I’ll ask their support about what exactly they mean by steamos support (fully rebindable in steam, or just “the buttons work”) and edit my comment to show the answer.

NuXCOM_90Percent,

Ultimate 2 is fully bindable in Steam (even gyro if you do directinput over bluetooth).

Valve gonna Valve but there isn’t a reason to assume a regression on that. But, like everything, don’t preorder things.

LiveLM,

Ultimate 2 also does Gyro over the 2.4 dongle (At least in the Wireless version).
Update the firmware of the controller and the dongle and hold B when turning on.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

I have an Ultimate 2 and I haven’t been able to figure out how to do that so I can’t remap the back buttons with Steam input.

What’s the trick?

dualpad,

Right now has to be the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 wireless. Not the bluetooth switch one. Need to update the dongle and controller to the latest beta firmware and launch it in dinput mode by turning it on while holding the B button. Then all the extra buttons can be mapped along with using gyro with analog triggers, which couldn’t be done before.

There is a bug that needs to be fixed where rumble can cause the controller to stop working in game, so for now need to use it with rumble off until that is fixed. But, everything else works when it comes to binding through Steam Input.

idogoodjob,

Is Dinput mode limited to Bluetooth only or can it be used on the 2.4ghz as well?

Edit: nevermind, just saw the other comment below mine that mentions it working in both connection modes

NuXCOM_90Percent,
  1. Update the firmware of the controller and dongle (technically the dongle isn’t necessary if you are using bluetooth). I did this in a VM because Linux
  2. Fully power down the controller. Switch to the connectivity mode you want
  3. Hold the Circle/B button and power on the controller to enable directinput mode
  4. Update Steam to the Beta branch
  5. Open Steam’s controller remapper
  6. Regardless of connectivity, you should have mappable L4/R4/BackPaddles. If you are using bluetooth you will also have the gyro
Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

Thank you. It looks like this is sort of working in that I can get the additional buttons to show up in Steam now but I’m hitting what I think is a bug where the ‘Enable Extended Buttons’ toggle doesn’t stay enabled. After searching a bit it seems like I’m not the only one but maybe that will get worked out soon.

I’m both disappointed and relieved. I love KotOR and was intrigued by what they would come up with, but I’m also quite sure it would have missed the mark in the end. It would’ve been nigh-impossible to recapture the magic. Shame this killed the fan-remake, though. We ended up with the worst of both options.

MonkderZweite, do games w Starfield Is Bethesda's Lowest-Rated Game On Steam

Is that a screenshot from Starfield? Looks worse than i thougth.

wutBEE,

I’ll need to double check if it looks like this outside of conversations, but I certainly feel like I’ve been playing a much better looking game than this.

Looks to me like this was cranked to low. About as honest as using a Mortal Kombat 1 screenshot from the Switch, but I guess it’s their fault for allowing people to lower their graphics like this.

Tranus,

I’ve been playing on minimum graphics, and it looks much better than any previous Bethesda game. The performance isn’t too great, and the TAA is a bit blurry, but it’s tolerable.

PeterPoopshit,

I play on medium settings. Some scenes look borderline photorealistic. Other scene and lighting combinations looks worse than 2005 Battlefront 2.

Cethin,

The game is usually quite attractive, but skin in particular is pretty bad in a lot of lighting. Subsurface scattering would go a long way to making them not look like clay, but there are other methods to fix this as well.

ConsciousCode, do gaming w GameStop Boss Says Disc Drives Should Be Required On Game Consoles

Why discs instead of cartridges, which are currently the superior physical option? I personally try to buy physical whenever possible, because I don’t trust companies to not ban my account and flush hundreds of dollars of games down the toilet, and it generally feels better to have just that little extra bit more ownership over my own property.

SpaceCowboy,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s basically what the Switch uses. Though they’re more like a memory card, but they kinda look like little tiny cartridges.

NuPNuA,

Because cartridges cost more to produce and are limited in storage. Switch carts cap out at 64gb, Blu Rays are up to 100gb at this point and it’s much cheaper to chuck a few of them in a box if the game goes over that. Hence all the switch games with massive downloads required on top of the cart.
