danciestlobster, do games w Obsidian's Avowed releases this autumn | Eurogamer

I have been checking for updates on this since I first heard of it on the loading screen of PoE2. If it’s anything like the pillars games I am gonna be real happy

I’m so pumped about this game

Halosheep, do games w Rock Band 4 DLC support ends next week, after eight years

For those of you who do not know, Clone Hero is a free game developed to fill the void that guitar hero and rock band left behind.

It’s not perfect but you can download custom songs and there is a pretty active community if charters.

LEONHART, do games w Rock Band 4 DLC support ends next week, after eight years

I’m fortunate enough to still have my full collection of RB4 instruments functional after all these years, and I frequently bust them out with my wife and my friends when the booze hits just right.

In the announcement they really emphasize that you’ll keep the songs you’ve already bought. What they haven’t clarified is whether you’ll still be able to continue downloading dlc tracks that are already released. Severing that from the playerbase would really suck.

Although they are releasing one final DLC pack before this ends, so who knows?

SatyrSack,

What they haven’t clarified is whether you’ll still be able to continue downloading dlc tracks that are already released.

They are just stopping their weekly DLC release schedule. No reason to think anything is going to happen to current DLC. Just nothing new going forward.

I didn’t even know this was still around

Is this game still playable on modern systems? Can you still buy the peripherals?

EDIT: I searched it myself and found the answer is Yes to modern systems, but No to peripherals. You have to buy overpriced adapters at retail and used equipment on ebay/craigslist.

Come on Batman Beyond. But will probably be a new IP

End of an era

eutsgueden, do gaming w Rocksteady co-founders have formed new AAA studio Hundred Star Games

What about this indicates AAA? Planned size of 100 employees, no projects announced yet, no mention of funding. Only thing I see is “cutting-edge” which could necessitate larger amounts of funding to develop, but that’s highly speculative and depends on the direction. I imagine after their Rocksteady experience, the people hired on from that company were looking for something different, not another “AAA” studio with shareholder oversight.

Now the question is, will we be getting more great games like the old Rocksteady, or will we continue to get crap like Suicide Squad?

Here’s hoping we’ll get the game we deserve instead of the game WB thinks we need

Omega_Haxors, do gaming w Twitch "isn't profitable" admits CEO, in wake of recent layoffs

Wow who knew that capitulating to neo-nazis wasn’t profitable.

JoeDaRedTrooperYT,
@JoeDaRedTrooperYT@lemmygrad.ml avatar

Nope. It’s because Twitch allowed nudity. This was the final straw for most

Omega_Haxors,

Would have blown right over if they didn’t foster an audience of neofascists.

JoeDaRedTrooperYT,
@JoeDaRedTrooperYT@lemmygrad.ml avatar

Nope. You’re comparing two different issues.

Omega_Haxors,

If you’re incapable of seeing the bigger picture then there’s nothing I can or should say.

JoeDaRedTrooperYT,
@JoeDaRedTrooperYT@lemmygrad.ml avatar

Bruh. Tf does a fascist audience have to do with Twitch falling off? What I was saying was that the debacle surrounding nudity was the last straw for most.

moon,

What are you even talking about

Omega_Haxors,

Crackergate.

moon,

I know that was a really stupid controversy, but definitely doesn’t mean it’s a neo nazi sure lol

Omega_Haxors, (edited )

No but it’s one in a long history of siding with the most fickle and destructive of the userbase. Nobody was asking them to make a big deal out of cracker, not even actual neo nazis give a shit about cracker beyond its use as a tool to bad-faith shut down people they don’t like.

This was a time when actual slurs were being thrown around completely unmoderated, famously saying that ret–d was allowed, which is an apt descriptor for what taking that stance and then proceeding to ban a bunch of their biggest left streamers for a discussing a mild slur was. It didn’t appease the people it was supposed to appease, all it did was drive away even more of the less politically repugnant users.

moon,

I was there for the drama too. It was hilarious the people crying racism for saying cracker, and the immediately follow up with the r word the same day. Mostly the Destiny guys who intentionally are bad faith basement dwellers. It was fucked up because they gave zero context about the word and grouped it up with racial slurs like the n word, which is completely racist to do that. So I definitely agree with you there. I mean we both know why, it’s because the website is 90% white males.

JokeDeity, do gaming w Twitch "isn't profitable" admits CEO, in wake of recent layoffs

I’ve never understood the appeal of watching twitch streams, I enjoy the edited compiled stuff with all the boring moments cut out that ends up on YouTube sometimes, but I see no point in watching a dude eating and drinking and staring at his monitor and shouting out to viewers.

derpgon,

Actively, no, but passively on a second monitor, I occasionally join in the discussion in chat. Finding a smallish streamer who actually reads you messages is nice.

fushuan,

Maybe then watch better streams. I usually watch streamers play games while talking to the chat or commenting on the gameplay, while I play a similar game. It’s entertaining.

Juigi,

There’s a lot more than just dudes eating and shouting.

You know what that means: Gifting a sub with Prime is about to go away and so are all the loot drops with Prime. Also, more no opt out ads, longer preroll ads, and a larger list of partnered games getting headway.

So you know typical enshittification stuff.

Carighan,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

This always makes me wonder how their operation can be so pricey.

It sounds more like their human resource cost is just absurd, not that their underlying technical operation is the problem. Plus assuming they did any calculation on the ads at all, their server usage should pay for itself as more load means more views means more ad impressions.

But what does Twitch need X-thousand people for if they still cannot do anything about curating content with those endless people? All I see of them is someone writing flip-flopping statements about whether nudity on stream is okay or not, always depends on which month it is it feels like.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

Video encoding is an expensive operation and probably the second largest cost next to wages. And apparently they aren’t even on an AWS SLA.

AN AMAZON SUBSIDIARY NOT ON AN SLA

Are they really a revenue sink to cover up taxable income?

BradleyUffner,

Shouldn’t the encoding happen locally, on the user’s computer, before it’s even sent to Twitch?

fushuan,

The user doesn’t send several different resolutions of video, the streamer just sends the source, and once thay have enough viewers, twitch reduces the resolution on their side so the viewer can choose either quality.

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

Or they just shutter twitch once they realize it’s unprofitable.
