This. If you like the mechanics of bg3, go play Divinity Original Sin 2. It has a lot of the same enhancements that Larian added to dnd for BG3. Including more comprehensive elemental fields and height mechanics.
And it has a great modding community.
The sad part about Larian and BG3 is I was hoping for a definitive edition that gave Karlach her good ending.
Nah, that's her kinda bad ending. They cut the good good ending.
There is another ending for her involving the upper city(cut at the last minute due to performance issues) and I suspect the purified metal you get at the factory that involves her staying.
I don't think we're going to get the dos2 level of tools, simply because it would become a competitor to wotc's fabulous virtual tabletop microtransaction simulator.
Morrowind was amazing because it is a hand built world. Oblivion had the same core error as Starfield: an overreliance on procedural generation.
For Skyrim they did it right. Just the right amount of procedural generation with enough manual work that things worked out.
You can't overlook the modding scene either. Oblivion had a great mod community with a lot of people getting into it and cutting their teeth there. So when Skyrim came out they were experts and made a lot of amazing mods, particularly framework mods.
But almost all of them are done and gone or corrupted into paid mods(e.g. Elianora, Kinggath(FO4)). So Starfield will never get a good modding scene because the core modding community doesn't exist now.
They do their prime bundles for a decent chunk of money. But it's also a really good deal just for the paid currency.
And you can get the same things in game for free.
So how much is the actual item vs the currency?
The best thing to do in pokemon violet is to make the jump over the cliffs when you're level 15 and can face level 30 pokemon on top of the cliffs in the first zone.
First did it in Kotor because the female PC had much more fun conversation choices with Bastilla(namely she'd be a catty bitch towards you and it was hilarious.)
Then in Elder Scrolls Oblivion because if you wanted to look good, all of the best looking clothing and armor was for CBBE body.
Mass Effect 1-3 because the female PC had better lines and better inflection on the sarcastic lines.
World of Warcraft as a blood elf because when I tried it for shits n giggles I made 25 gold in the first hour of play from people just throwing gold and items at me for no reason.
Don't forget how he abandoned PC gaming when Unreal Tournament 3 bombed after they released shitty mid tools and the modding community they built up over UT 2k3 and 2k4 dissolved.
“Online games will now be banned from giving players rewards if they log in every day, if they spend on the game for the first time or if they spend several times on the game consecutively. All are common incentive mechanisms in online games.”
The problem is that the spice and flavour of Skyrim was not using the fast travel and just exploring.
With modding to add random encounters and roaming friendlies/neutral mobs, Fallout 4 was great too. Even more so recently with the flyable vertibirds so that you could get the in-game fast travel that used resources.
But neither of those can exist in a game where fast travel is a core and unavoidable gameplay mechanic.
The trick is that they want paid mods so they can do nothing and get a decade of profit. Consider that many of the mods on Nexus have millions of unique downloads.
Even if they charge 3 bucks a mod and get a third of it, that's tens of millions of dollars with zero effort on their part.
But the primary issue is that the current modding framework they're pushing onto Skyrim doesn't support framework mods, so none of the big mods Skyrim is known for, and have kept it alive so long, could happen.
An issue is that Bethesda might be getting deluded into thinking that Fallout 4 on its own was fantastic.
It is, on its own, very boring. The story is bland, characters left unexplored. But the mods make it amazing.
Sim settlements alone revitalizes the game, changing settlement building into an optional and story driven thing, particularly in its version 2.
The vertibirds mods which not only fix the abysmal default abilities, but even let you call one in as air support.
Various mods that add travellers on the roads and paths, so you encounter other people.
The mods that let you turn the feral ghouls into zombie hordes.
The list goes on.
“What’s more frustrating for those working on SCP, and the wider Starfield modding community, is how difficult it is to work with Starfield’s code without official modding tools and support. This isn’t helped by the delayed mod tools from Bethesda, which the company says are coming at some point next year.”
Because China is increasingly looking broke, so daddy Tencent's purse is tightening.
On top of that, the world's banks now have interest rates to look after again, so their free money streams have ended too. Meaning that companies have to prove their profitability.
But the rich want to keep their free money train going, so we're all paying now.
Without EA intentionally fucking over Respawn as the producer for Titanfall 2 by making it have the worst possible release date, and driving them to bankruptcy, this would have been a major IP.
As it is, we have Apex Legends instead of a Titanfall Series.
It was dropped between CoD(which at the time was riding high) and the legendary BF1, which was the WW1 one that was universally acclaimed and revitalized the series.
In 5e I can take a level of warlock and at character level 5 the cantrip outdamages a heavy crossbow.
I can make a warlock 2 / bard 3 and both of their selected cantrips scale based on Character level.
You should absolutely be able to mix and match extra attack features. There isn't a reason, other than 3+ attacks is a primary fighter feature, that extra attacks shouldn't stack.
E.G. the newfound celebrity of the BG3 VAs as they run around on social media. If it was some Hollywood big shot, the likelihood that we'd have the High Rollers one-shot from them in nill.
Then we wouldn't have the glory that is Shadowheart and Bing-Bong, or Astarion lapping blood from a glass like a cat.
Well no. Google used to steal results from other search engines initially.v And then suppressed search results for competing products for at least the last 20 years.
When they started, they did used to force you to use products edit: aside from their own games(fair cop), some 3rd party games like Lost Planet also required it.
Certain games, and not just valve games, you'd buy in a store and the disc would force you to install and create a steam account to play the single player offline game.
I feel Steam vs competitors is like how after 1st wave MCU, everyone was jumping on that bandwagon, but instead of putting in the groundwork just skipped ahead, or like the monsters one just abandoned it because of one bad movie.
Even with BG3, act 3 of the game is in much better shape than it launched with.
And their history of making "definitive" editions is looming a year or two down the road.
Oddly, as is their gameplay style of act 3 being the buggiest and least directed along with artificial difficulty of grouping the party in a tight clump via cutscene before the hard fights.
Still an utterly fantastic game despite those minor gripes.
MMOs have been front loading the best content since at least Conan. Remember that one, the first zone had amazing quests and voice acting that the rest of the game didn't.
Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 3, which was so massive Larian held it back a day to test it properly, will release today, and it'll add an RPG feature many of us have been requesting since we stepped clear of the Nautiloid - the ability to change a character's appearance. Alas, it comes too late for the Wood Elf Druid I rolled during...
According to Hans-Kristian Arntzen, a prominent open-source developer working on Vkd3d, a DirectX 12 to Vulkan translation layer, Starfield is not interacting properly with graphics card drivers.
Morrowind's entire map was hand made. All of its quests were hand made.
Starting with Oblivion, they moved to make most of the map and quests automatically with minimal human intervention.
To the point that they admitted it was too much for the tech at the time and actually hurt the gameplay, and pulled back for Skyrim, using a mix of computer made and human made content, adding in the radiant quest system in an attempt.to make the gameplay "endless".
The modern thing we call AI is just the chatbots from a decade prior with improved processing power and vastly larger data sets to work with. The tech in those chatbots had been working in various pieces for a decade before that.
It's best gameplay is when your ignore the plot entirely and create your own story.
Same with Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Oblivion.
The actual main plots are simplistic, boring and oddly quick. Weirdly, each of the games has an expansion that has a well done quest line, so its not that they can't do it, they choose to not do it.
A new Nintendo Switch 2 rumor has surfaced claiming that the next-generation hybrid console could actually arrive with more memory than a powerful rival like the Microsoft Xbox Series S. The same source has also offered an update in regard to the Switch 2’s potential DLSS support and ray-tracing capabilities.
Happily, PlayStation 5 manages to deliver a creditable rendition of the game, but the now legendary Act Three continues to humble CPU performance - perhaps more than we anticipated going in.
More concerning than Bethesda’s decision to withhold early review codes from certain outlets is how heavily some sites are relying on the game to drive their business.
The first Brink patch made it quasi-playable, but the damage had already been done.
And even after they fixed it, the AI still stank. They'd just ran back in the exact same path sometimes; to the point that you could just aim at a point and headshot all of them.
UPDATE 2It seems that starting today, uBlock Origin is working to combat this Youtube Block. Mine started working again! Lets all thank the devs of UBO for fighting this fight!...
Absolutely you can. There are absolutely no other, easier ways to circumvent it and this is absolutely not a failed attempt at sarcasm at how laughable their malware attempt is.
Even the "endgame" one is laughably easy to circumvent. I'm not giving them any hints though because Fuck Google.
Also playing with my partner. Spell tooltips have been completely accurate, and we've only encountered one issue, which was solved with waiting a minute and the game sorted itself out.
After 5 years in development and heavily pushing Unreal Engine 5 technologies, Immortals of Aveum was met with a whopping 751 player peak. For reference, Forspoken was considered a flop but still had over 12,000 players peak total. This may be the biggest flop of the year.
Gee, certainly had nothing to do with it releasing while BG3 is still all-engrossing and the queen of the looter shooter, Warframe, had its convention yesterday and pulled in over 200k people into the main livestream yesterday, as well as having events all week.
Engine is similar but BG3's is more enhanced. Story is a complete other level. It delivers on the level of what Todd Howard promises and starts approaching what Peter Molineux used to promise.
A decent comparison is the 5e SRD based game Solasta: Crown of the Magister that uses the same 5e ruleset as BG3, and it does some things better, but is an absolutely on-rails experience. Even one instance where you have to get caught stealing to proceed in the main quest.
Where BG3 shines is looking truly open.
E.G. In the primary map's "main" conflict, you have three main factions, A group that runs a refuge,
B some refugees and C some goblins.
You can side with A, A+B, B, A+C, B then C, A then C, or even C then B+A. All of those outcomes will have rollon effects down the line. And not changes like Mass Effect 1's Rachni Queen to Mass Effect 3's "oh you killed that one, well someone else found a queen", but like: this PC's personal quest can't be completed on this run. Or a vendor that carries multiple unique items has a quest you can't complete because your loot goblin friend opened a chest the game told her multiple times to not open.
However, there are:
• Jumping puzzles dependent on either high strength or specific spells.
• Inventory management is critical, particularly grabbing a few emptied crates/chests/backpacks and dumping them into your personal storage chest so you can quickly sort.
Both of those, based on previous reviews, make a decent score from IGN unlikely.
