Remnant 2 and Deep Rock Galactic are the best that come to mind rn.
Remnant 2 is dark souls with guns and coop actually changes the game in some ways to better enable teamwork to make the dream work.
Deep Rock Galactic is just a wonderful little title about space dwarves mining a crazy bug planet. 100% randomly generated. Each of 4 classes feel like they bring something unique to each mission.
Stardew Valley. My wife and I have sunk well over 1000 hours into it and we still aren’t bored. The amount of mods for it is insane and gives so much more depth to the game, but vanilla is super well done as well.
Marvel Rivals might be a bit too close to Overwatch, or maybe that’s a good thing?
You might consider just not playing ranked. In anything. Assigning a number to my skill level and that of others had a negative effect on my relationship with games and using them to have fun. Recognizing that and just playing to play instead of to appease the rating system, has led to much more fun coming out of my fun.
It doesn’t mean you can’t get better at the game over time, only that you’ll be the judge of your progress, instead of an arbitrary number that won’t ever feel truly fair.
Yeah playing quickplay in Overwatch has all the sweaty counterswapping and flaming for off meta picks as competitive, except with a 5-10 minute queue time instead of 20-30
By the time I got to the end and didn’t have a few secret achievements I was angry because I solved the puzzle entirely. Great game, probably my most common recommendation, but it doesn’t fit this category exactly.
That said, I was much less frustrated than I woukd be for other games.
I’ll wait for some more performance reviews and maybe even a few patches, but this sounds promising. Was looking forward to this game so I’m glad it seems like it delivers.
Favourite: Steam Deck, hands down. It has totally revolutionised the way I play games. I very often choose to play games on my deck instead of on my far more powerful pc.
Least favourite: Smartphone. The closest I’ve come to having an enjoyable traditional gaming experience on a smartphone was Sky: Children of the Light but even then I was constantly getting frustrated with the touchscreen controls and dealing with my phone getting as hot as the surface of the sun. Its also just not a comfortable shape to hold while you game.
Lots of great suggestions here, but if you’ve never played the original Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, and Super Mario World, you should. There is a reason they’re considered classics and everybody should experience Mario’s roots. My 8 year old plays them every so often and he keeps progressing.
SMB 2 is a good game as well, but it’s quite different from the others. It is the origin of a few series staples, though.
The amount of work he is putting into this is really impressive. Being from the US it kind of sucks to see his play out in every country but ours. Is 'merica just a lost cause or is there something else we can do here?
