otp,

Your title says “What are in you are top 3 favourite games of all time”.

You were thinking of “your”, which is possessive. “You’re” is a contraction of “you” and “are”; the apostrophe is a hint there.

What’s the best written Pokémon game? angielski

Like, the series isn’t famous for its writing, but I absolutely loved the last part of Arceus. The Volo fight hit me out of nowhere, and the fact the fight itself was actually challenging was a very pleasant surprise. I wish we got a little bit more of an explanation for potato mochi guy, but the game has just the right...

otp,

Probably a Mystery Dungeon game. I’d go with Gen 5, having not played it on ages, for a mainline game.

Scarlet/Violet was surprisingly decent, at least in the end-game.

"We approached payment processors because Steam did not respond" - Australian pressure group Collective Shout claims responsibility for Steam and Itch.io NSFW game removal (www.eurogamer.net) angielski

tldr: Australian pressure group Collective Shout has claimed responsibility for the recent Itch.io and Steam developments that have seen the platforms change how they deal with - and in some cases remove - NSFW games and content from their respective platforms....

Haha, it wasn’t the end of the sentence, but I don’t think the rest of the original sentence meaningfully changed that particular clause!

Does anyone else find it suspicious that there wasn't any criticism on here about Stop Killing Games until after it hit 1.4M signatures? angielski

As the title suggests, over the last couple of days there’s been an influx of doomer comments over the SKG petition. While it’s fine to disagree, I’m finding it suspicious that there weren’t comments like this posted a week or 2 ago

otp,

The GC didn’t have a keyboard, so it was useful for MMORPGs. Not sure if I should be pluralizing that, though. It might’ve only been PSO.

otp,

I got the base game for free a few years ago.

I played and enjoyed it so much I bought the Platinum edition…on Steam, because it was cheaper there. (And other reasons, but this was the biggest one)

One of the few games I actually went out and bought thanks to Epic. I feel slightly bad for not buying from them, lol

otp,

I like how this is written with men as the target audience because only men would be this depraved

otp,

If media can say “slammed” to mean “said something about”, I can use “impacted” to mean “affected”. Especially when we have the word “impactful”.

otp,

“impacts” has been in my vocabulary for as long as I remember, and it’s common to use it that way. The dictionaries even have that definition.

I’m not afraid of language evolving.

otp,

Why are Valve the good guys?

otp,

Definitely needed the /s there. I’m sure you saw the 3 or so other comments who were explaining why Valve are good guys, lol

otp,

Harvest Moon is Temu Stardew Valley. I know Harvest Moon came first. Stardew Valley does literally everything better than Harvest Moon

otp,

I heard that his kids also used the laptop. So there are other possibilities.

Of course, sitting alone in a cave must get boring.

otp,

If it runs poorly on the recommended specs, bad reviews are warranted.

otp,

If an ordered item arrives broken once, it’s a shitty delivery company. 1-star probably isn’t warranted unless the company is shitty about replacing it.

If an ordered item arrives broken regularly, it’s a problem that the company should’ve fixed.

If a game doesn’t work on one person’s machine, maybe they’ve got a bunch of malware installed or something.

If it doesn’t work on many people’s machines that meet the recommended specs, the company is at fault and deserves bad reviews.

otp,

I dunno, Yoshi’s Island can get pretty hard…

otp,

I was referring to where they said

Bro, it’s a YOSHI game

Going based on the expectations set by Yoshi’s Island, one wouldn’t be off to expect challenge in Yoshi’s Story, its follow-up.

How do you keep track of what games you have played over the years? angielski

Hiya, just newly thought about something: wouldn't be nice if there was a simple way of checking what games you have played over the years, a way to keep track of wether you liked the game or not, how much time you spent playing it etc.. Currently, personally i only check steam library for those kinda details. But it would be...

otp,

Going forward? RetroAchievements, Steam, GOG, and LaunchBox to tie it all together. PSN trophy integration to LaunchBox would be cool too, because PS3 stuff is never coming to any of those platforms and I have history there, too.

For historical stuff, that’s in my memory exclusively.

Purple was their colour for a while.

I think their colour was grey before that. But they had red, then purple accents. Foreshadowing!

Update game

“Oh hey, the console doesn’t need to update this time! And this 5-year old game is the one I just updated last month, and there hasn’t been any news or anything about the game.”

needs to update

“Wow, these minor bug fixes are (probably) amazing. Especially when it’s 300MB!”

otp,

imho, cosmetics are fine, as are sizeable expansion packs on games that were worth the money without them.

But generally, yes. In-game purchases usually suck.

otp,

I don’t see these as a problem with what I’d said for two reasons:

  • The people making cosmetic elements are generally different from the people coding actual features
  • If an expansion pack is successful, what’s the harm in putting future development hours towards more expansion packs?
otp,

Oh, definitely. The one issue with cosmetic DLC is that they used to be unlockable. Sometimes paid cosmetics are more development work than the kinds of things that were unlocked in-game back in the day, but not always.

Sometimes cosmetic DLC is a way to support the developers. Sometimes cosmetic DLC is a cashgrab. But if the game stands on its own, players generally aren’t missing much if cosmetics are paid DLC. Smash Bros. Ultimate comes to mind – there’s plenty of stuff to unlock in the game even with lots of costumes and such being behind paywalls.

otp,

If game companies are firing their developers upon launching a game and not doing the same to their design team, there are probably bigger problems.

My point about expansion packs was related to my original comment – I gave an example besides cosmetics of DLC I thought was ok

otp,

I have to say that the customer holds some of the blame. If people are obsessively buying cosmetics that do nothing and that’s the only way the game is being sustained…either the game is that good already, or the players are the reason the game sucks.

When players need to spend money to be competitive, I think it’s fair to place the blame jointly on both the devs/publisher and the players. When spending money doesn’t change the game OR provides new content, it generally indicates that the player base is happy with what they’re spending money on. I don’t think that’s a problem.

otp,

I think you’re making large reaches in your analogies. Are we supposed to have the government come in and bad cosmetic DLC, and then fight a war over it that splits the country (or world) in two? Lol

My point is that cosmetic DLC (and expansion packs) isn’t the problem – the problem is loot boxes and pay-to-win microtransactions.

otp,

I think you’re mixing up my disagreement with not understanding you.

otp,

Should’ve been “Until the tariffs are gone, right?”

otp,

“Mom! I want to read articles on Polygon!”

We have Polygon at home.

The Polygon at home:

Polgyon

otp,

Yeah, broadcasting to the world that you’re playing a game that hasn’t been released yet isn’t a great idea. Particularly when it’s Nintendo. It’s pretty common knowledge how petty they are even with stuff that’s less flagrant

otp,

It’s somewhat misleading. It’s not providing the additional background information, and it leads the headline with the claim (not that Nintendo is making a claim).

I don’t think it’s a bad headline. It’d be hard to include all the information in the headline. But if someone only reads the headline (something like 73% of people), they could end up with a mistaken conclusion. And those people will have been lead in that direction (so, mislead).

otp,

To clarify, I don’t think the writers did anything wrong. The headline will be misleading because Nintendo’s being somewhat misleading.

I don’t know how much the headline could be improved, if at all.

Nintendo says NS2 GC controller will only “officially” support GC games

Or if they can’t quote “officially”, they could quote “only”. Which could arguably be more clickbaity, but also clue in a casual reader that there’s more to what Nintendo officially says.

Nintendo president responds to Switch 2 price increase fears amid Trump tariff fallout (www.tweaktown.com) angielski

TL;DR: Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser discussed with Wired the impact of new tariffs on the Nintendo Switch 2, which may increase its price from $449 to $600. The tariffs affect manufacturing in Vietnam, Cambodia, and China. Nintendo is assessing the situation, having already moved some production out of China.

otp,

The games don’t drop in price, but the consoles do. There’s even a chance the price could go down for the holiday season, even if it’s something miniscule. This launch price is the early adopter tax.

Unfortunately, I use some software that’s Windows-only, and can’t be bothered to set up a VM or anything

Colourful story-driven adventure To a T is a new game from the studio of Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi. I finally released my horror game called The Backrooms 1998 where the monster can hear your microphone on all consoles and steam! If you can, please do leave your feedback as It really helps out! (lemmy.world) angielski

If you like to check it out it’s on steam here: …steampowered.com/…/The_Backrooms_1998__Found_Foo…...

otp,

the monster can hear your microphone on all consoles and steam

Hmm…the Switch doesn’t have a microphone, does it? Sounds like I should get it on the Switch for an advantage! Haha

otp,

That sounds bad. I like Pokemon Go. What kind of ruining are we talking about?

otp,

Some people say Pokemon Go is already P2W. But as long as Community Days/shinies are still as available as they are with F2P, then I’ll stick around and even give them some of my Google Play money, lol

otp,

Uh…cardiac arrest means the heart stops. So, between the two, wouldn’t this always be PvP? Lol

I’m imagining this is one of those rubber or even foam dodgeballs just for the sake of my faith in humanities.

otp,

Garbage like that has no place anywhere.

If app developers can’t get money from paid apps, then it makes sense to run ads. Especially if they do offer a paid (ad-free) version.

But if it’s a paid app already, like in Steam, it should definitely be ad-free.

otp,

It’s easy to play retro games now and gloss over the challenges. With old stuff, we often have the best of both worlds – the challenges of the past can be overcome with modern features.

  • Save states help negate fake difficulty
  • Turbo/speedup and save editing help negate grinding, loading, and other time sinks
  • Digitization makes it easier to store and keep track of lots of game (no need to worry about someone losing a game you lent them!)
  • Modern storage capacities mean we can have as many save games as we want for free
  • Mods let us experience games (sometimes) even better than they were back in the day
  • Digital games are much more affordable now. Back in the day, if you wanted to play something other than your same handful of games, you’d have to borrow one from a friend, rent one, or pay at least 30 bucks or so for something that wasn’t trash. Or you want a brand new game? Might set you back $200 (both adjusted for inflation).
