Melody, w It would appear lemmy.world has blocked this community
@Melody@lemmy.one avatar

This feels like an obvious bullshit cop-out reason to defederate against a specific community that they don’t like for whatever silly reason they can’t reveal to the public.

Never have I seen an actual link to content survive very long on lemmy.ml or dbzer0.com. Just like the good old /r/Piracy we discuss piracy, but we do not directly facilitate it.

Someone please slap the back of their heads repeatedly and aggressively with these facts. This excuse is disingenuous as hell.

If you are a user of lemmy.world; RUN. NOW! Find a new instance. Switch away from them before they reach terminal enshitification velocity.

unsaid0415, w How to pirate movies casually?

Doesn’t 1337x.to work for you instead of tpb?

Sephtis-6,

I still use 1337x.to for most things but i had some problems lately where the site freezes and all buttons redirect to some "tinder" add or so. Is this normal now or something in my browser config

TerryCustard,

I think it’s the ad overlay, when I click the search button an ad opens in another tab and I have to go back to re click the button. Sometimes 2-3 times before I’m allowed to click.

It’s annoying but 3 clicks for a movie is obviously cheap.

Sephtis-6,

Ok thanks, then I know that it's normal and some thing on my pc or browser.

safesyrup,

Doesn‘t happen for me with firefox+ublock. Maxbe try that?

mayonaise_met, w How to pirate movies casually?

In my country torrent sites are blocked, so I use a search plugin for qBittorrent to find Linux ISOs. I don’t quite remember which one I use or how I installed, but it was quite simple. Google is your friend.

100794,
@100794@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Why in the ass would you need a plugin for downloading Linus ISOs which are free and non-illegal

kniescherz,

Oftentimes anything copyrighted like warez, music and movies are called ‘linux isos’ to hide the fact that you are doing something shady.

Like: “I got a NAS with 20TB of Linux Isos to enjoy.”

100794,
@100794@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Oh. Okay good to know. But wouldn’t it be redundant to use something like this here in a piracy sub

kniescherz,

Sure. Buts its also an inside joke.

They’re still visible with the current xmanager version

Bloodyashes,

Yeah but the change is server sided so it will stop working soon I suppose.

crag,

No. Xmanager patch unlocks premium features. So literally you’re a premium user.

iamroot,

It depends on whether the feature is server-side restricted. For example, xManager can’t set audio quality to very high.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

As I mention further in the thread, I am a premium Spotify user and they have been removing lyrics from songs that used to have them recently. It may not matter if you have the features or not, if they’re just going to be removing the lyrics anyway. Which makes it even shittier that they would advertise it as a premium feature, just for users to subscribe and find out none of the songs they want lyrics for have them anymore.

Probably stating the obvious but „are in no threat of being deleted“ is an absolute joke.

A company holding the IP can just make it unavailable tormorrow. A big chunk of us is here because reddit somehow is allowed to delete our posts because the law is idiotic. At least european people are allowed to get their data but the cooperative works of thousands of people is threatened due to those laws.

The concept of IP needs to be reformed.

sxan,
@sxan@midwest.social avatar

As concrete examples, try to get a copy of Disney’s 1946 movie, “Song of the South.” It’s been removed from circulation because of its whitewashed presentation of “happy slaves.” Similarly, 6 of Dr. Seuss’ books, including “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” were withdrawn because of racial imagery (the mentioned book had a “Chinaman” drawn with a WWII stereotype style - rice hat, sloping eyes, buck teeth).

There’s media you simply can’t get anymore.

Haui,
@Haui@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Our culture has been copyrighted.

sxan,
@sxan@midwest.social avatar

In this case, the media was withdrawn for (arguably) good reasons: the representations were deemed hurtful or harmful.

Good reasons or bad, they still stand as stark examples of how media can disappear at the whims of a single organization.

Haui,
@Haui@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Say what? Now I’m curious how they handled the slavery topic, and found actors for it.

Thanks for the heads-up!

WarmSoda,

Did you think your posts on Reddit were protected by copyright laws or something?

Are you seriously comparing posts on a forum to music rights?

Haui,
@Haui@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

What exactly are you trying to convey? That these „works“ made by ordinary people who have only a basic understanding of copyright law should be deleted if someone feels like it? That the law is more important than justice?

Also, do you really think you‘re cool by implying things phrased as a question? Won‘t you just talk like a normal person and state your opinion instead of fake-calling-out others?

WarmSoda,

Posts you make on a forum are not “works” that are copyrightable. Deleting a post is not an injustice.

Sentences phrased with a question mark means it’s asking a question. When someone asks a question, the normal response is to then provide an answer to that question.

But you’re just being an asshole. You know exactly what I’m saying, and you know you’re saying ridiculous things so your only response is not answering either of the two questions and and then try to twist it.

Haui,
@Haui@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I‘m glad you saw your mistake. Have a good one.

WarmSoda,

Not going to answer anything, huh? Typical.

Arghblarg,
@Arghblarg@lemmy.ca avatar

Yeah. And whenever anyone says “Oh the music companies would never let these old recordings die, it’s their bread and butter!” I give them this story.

We cannot trust our cultural heritage to any one entity.

banana_meccanica, w Thinking of getting a retro gaming machine.

Whatever alternative you’re offered, I don’t think it’s worth spending more than $50 on an emulator console. (This is the maximum make sense price for any hardware that can emulate old consoles up to PS3).

I will keep that in mind. Thank you very much. Always good to get a reality check on prices.
