DARbarian, w piracy starter kit - old head getting back into it
@DARbarian@kbin.run avatar

First things first, pull up Trash Guides and set up the *Arr stack -- Sonarr for shows, Radarr for movies, Bazarr for subs, and Prowlarr for indexers/trackers. Then setup transmission+OpenVPN or something similar to torrent behind a VPN. Finally, hook up Jellyfin so you can serve the media.

Welcome back old timer! Here’s a link to pretty much exactly the apps you’re looking for: wiki.servarr.comHappy sailing!

Is this why I’ve been getting constant buffering at the start of videos?

empireOfLove2,
@empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Do you use Firefox?
because Google intentionally nerfs loading performance on any non-Chrome browsers.

I usually find if startup buffering takes more than 2-3 seconds on my home Internet, just refreshing the page magically makes it go away.

FactoryDweller, w Most Cloudstream extension providers do not return results

Have you tested through the app? Settings>Providers>Test all providers

Going by what you’re saying, I think it’s a problem with the repositories, not of your machine.

catloaf, w Where can I find software from steam?

You know you can refund on Steam up to like two hours of runtime, right?

nudnyekscentryk,
@nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info avatar

Within two weeks after purchase and under two hours of runtime, but also note that proprietary installer some games and Steam software use (non Steam built-in one) does count towards runtime as well

Fake4000, w Nintendo is suing the creators of Switch emulator Yuzu

From what I understood, is that the team’s Patreon page is a means of making financial gains of emulating the Switch. This could be the reason why Nintendo is suing.

Vanced NFT memories.

Cars are used for driving around but some people use it for accidents and drunk driving! Ban cars!

Nonironically yes

tubbadu, w what's your wishlist for piracy?

That dubbed audio tracks of movies could be downloaded separatey and easily merged in the audio, in a way similar to subtitles. This way, the audio track in non English languages would be downloaded very quickly, even with just one seeder, and the whole movie in original language has way more seeders than dubbed ones.

leanleft, w So I finally did the math on data brokerage and worked out how much we're all being robbed
@leanleft@lemmy.ml avatar

this service claims:

“Ad based search engines make almost $300 a year off their users.

Google generated $76 billion in US ad revenue in 2023. Google had 274 million unique visitors in the US as of February 2023.

To estimate the revenue per user, we can divide the 2023 US ad revenue by the 2023 number of users: $76 billion / 274 million = $277 revenue per user in the US or $23 USD per month, on average! That means there is someone, somewhere, a third party and a complete stranger, an advertiser, paying $23 per month for your searches.”

Would that factor in the [unknown] costs of that revenue? Running all the servers (incl youtube), offices and staff aint cheap. So more likely some is paying enough to leave 23USD on top of massive costs.

dangblingus, w Switched from uTorrent to QBitTorrent

TIL I’m the only one who says “microtorrent”.

ARk,

what is that

nudnyekscentryk,
@nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info avatar

The “u” in uTorrent is actually [greek letter mu](en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mu_(letter)), which as a SI suffix is pronounced “micro” and means one millionth (10^-6)

nudnyekscentryk, w Is there a sponsor block situation for Podcasts?
@nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info avatar

On top of dynamic ads, another problem would be decentralisation of podcasts. Many of them are released on several platforms simultaneously, and some sort of extra work would be needed for this to work accordingly independent of where you’re listening to a particular podcast to.

iesou, w questions about manual subtitles

Opensubtitles.com has an AI service to transcribe, translate, or provide VO for a small fee: ai.opensubtitles.com.

I was thinking of using it for some of my older more obscure stuff bazarr can’t find.

nudnyekscentryk, (edited )
@nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info avatar

isn’t opensubtitles.COM an impostor of opensubtitles.ORG? which is nasty enough to advertise itself on the original website? or are they actually related?

according to FAQ it is related

nudnyekscentryk, w RIP videos from streaming services
@nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info avatar

It’s a secret – otherwise the streaming services in question would immediately patch the vulnerability

RepulsiveDog4415, w E-Books, best places to get them?

Do I go to the same places I torrent movies and games or are there special places dedicated to E-Books?

I use library genisis. Great for scientific papers and adequate for fiction.

nudnyekscentryk,
@nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info avatar

Anna’s archive is a catalogue which goes through multiple databases including libgen, therefore it’s preferable
