Personally I don’t really mind the DLCs in paradox games.

The DLCs fund the smaller free updates and they are optional. If you want to regularly get more content for the games you love it might be worth the 20 euro (or whatever) and you absolutely don’t need to buy every single one just the ones with features and content you like.

Basically the options are: more new paid features and some new free features or no new features.

What’s up with Lemmy and Reddit users having to justify when they pirate stuff? Most of the time I simply don’t give a shit. I do keep in mind that it’s a “wrong” thing to do though. I don’t go around thinking I’m superior and that I’m fighting the evil corporations when I don’t. Some Lemmy/Reddit users seriously seem to think that.

I absolutely agree that this will lead to more piracy, and I might pirate it myself for this reason.

Warning: the rest of the comment is just a rambling rant and nothing is directed at you specifically.

But I think it’s a terrible justification. If you want to read the worst takes on piracy go to r/piracy or the Lemmy equivalent on the db0 instance. Most users on there really think that they are in some way entitled to a game and they genuinely try and justify their piracy is a million different ways. Usually the argument is basically “company did bad thing so give me your game for free”

It’s like they would like to have some moral high ground, which I believe doesn’t exist.

I think piracy is wrong because actual people worked on the games and they need to earn a living and a fuck ton of money and resources was spent on making the games. I don’t agree that piracy is the same as stealing but somewhere along those lines. I don’t need to publicly justify piracy, I just do it when I feel like it’s appropriate considering stuff like money and wants For example I have automatic downloads of movies and TV shows and multiple terabytes of pirated movies and shows.

The only time where I could agree that piracy might be completely justified and not bad in the slightest is the piracy of stuff like knowledge like science papers that were published in a journal that demands fuck tons of money and give backs nothing to the author(s)

Sadly emulation is seemingly non-existent for newer consoles like PS4 and Xbox one (PS3 is pretty emulatable but fairly demanding, Xbox 360 emulation is last I checked still pretty poor) Luckily most of the games on newer consoles are released on PC.

And what specifically do you mean by overlay?

Monitors and TVs have been able to overlay some interface elements over the HDMI input since forever. I have never heard of an overlay degrading quality but maybe there are some poor implementations.

I hope it also comes to PC. I suspect I will come out after 6-12 months after the PS5 version, maybe even at the same time if I’m lucky. Unfortunately I’m never lucky.

Additionally, this has resulted in bait-and-switch-like situations, where users would prepurchase Steam copies of games, only to be informed that they wouldn’t be getting them.

It happened to Metro Exodus (great game btw) but iirc all pre orders were honoured and the game was just delisted.

My main problem with the steam deck is probably portability and battery life. I have used it very seldom on the train to work, but I imagine it would be very cumbersome.

I will try it again when I am finally done with TOTK on my switch.

And then there is always the question: Is the steam deck really an unique gaming platform when it’s really just a small laptop.

There are loads of steam games without DRM and those that use DRM mostly use the Steam provided one that sucks if one actually wants to crack it. It basically only protects against casual copy attempts.

Not sure how the point about Kickstarter is relevant but it’s not Steams fault devs are releasing unfinished games.

And I wouldn’t say it went straight to bad digital preorders. I feel like that is a more recent phenomenon and digital preorders were better years ago.

My fps is also around that in CS 1 and honestly it hasn’t bothered me that much unless I look at the fps counter. While it would be nice to have 60 FPS, I don’t think much about it while actually playing.

Not sure about my absolute favorite, but the first games to come to mind when thinking about OSTs is Battlefield 1 and V. The music in those games is amazing.
