AceFuzzLord, w Starfield Is Broken On Intel Arc GPUs, But Intel Is Working On A Fix

Remember back when triple AAA games were released and didn’t need to be patched immediately so you can play because the game devs actually decided to make a proper functioning game instead of going for greed?

GeneralEmergency,

It’s a Bethesda game, when did they ever do that?

Virkkunen,
@Virkkunen@kbin.social avatar

This seems to be an Intel issue rather than a Bethesda one

GreenMario, (edited )

I lived it and fucking NOPE so many broken games. Check out AVGN or any Games Done Quick glitch speed run for many examples.

Games had less moving parts back then so they seemed like they worked, until you find out that there were entire spells that didn’t work in Final Fantasy or how you can jump just right and enter a game breaking bug thay required a reset (SMB1 minus world). Or how uninstalling the game would uninstall Windows (Kohan? And Pools Of Radiance 2)

Plus now they can make patches in between the time they start pressing discs (gone gold) and release, hense the “day 1 patch”. Personally I’m glad games can be fixed post release although I would prefer it to be more complete/fix at launch than usual.

sugar_in_your_tea,

Yeah, a mix of both would be ideal. The fact that we’re surprised that Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 were solid on release is a problem, all AAA releases should have that level of quality at a minimum on release.

If games are consistently solid at release, I’d probably preorder like I used to. Now I wait and see because, more often than not, it’s a buggy mess the first few weeks.

orbitz,

I remember those days as having no Internet let alone high speed, I recall reading old ads for some PC games. So they don’t seem as great as you’re implying because at least the game will most likely be fixed with an accessible patch these days. You’d have to do a lot more work to get one before or completely wasted your money in rare cases.

Also usually publishers set the release date, though in this case I’m not sure if it was in house or not so may not be a point, though you called out developers so figured I’d add it in.

maltasoron,

Yeah, scrounging gaming websites to find the right patch files could be a real pain in the ass, especially before Google.

ezures, w Volition studio (Saints row) closes

Sad to see, but after the Saints row remake, its no surprise

Milan,

It has little to do with that. Embracer Group is more than 2 billion in debt so they have to do anything to show to their investors they are resolving it. Publically doing massive layoffs and destroying beloved studios is very popular with investors.

Gullible, w Pokemon Go to feature Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet starting September 5

Pokémon go had such potential, but turned out to be just a pocket heater.

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I only go on for the occasional community day if I like the shiny just so I can transfer it to a game that is actually fun to play. Trouble is I’m running out of fun main line games now too…

I really hope Gamefreak/nintendo can get their house in order, the IP deserves so much better than it’s gotten the past few years. Arceus was an encouraging development, I hope they build on that.

ElZoido, w Eurogamer and Starfield, why our review will be late.

So basically no reviews before the Premium Pre Order release? That smells fishy.

Vash63, w FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3) - AMD Stage Presentation | gamescom 2023

Only DX11 and 12? Shame they don’t support open APIs like Vulkan if true.

Ranvier,

They’ve also stated fsr3 will continue to be open source, and previous versions have been compatible with Vulkan on the developer end at least. I can’t find though if this new hyper rx application running it agnostic to any developer integration is supporting Vulkan though. Guess we’ll find out when it’s released shortly here.

azvasKvklenko,

It can probably be integrated into anything like FSR 1 and 2. Valve can just update their Gamescope compositor to use it instead of FSR 1. I wonder though, how the image quality is going to be like when upscaling/generating frames based on such small input image resolutions. Previous versions of FSR really only mase sense for around-1080p upwards.

nanoUFO, w Google Play Games - Play Android games on PC
@nanoUFO@sh.itjust.works avatar

Is there anything actually worth playing on this platform?

MoonlitSanguine,

I was also wondering that. Anything worth playing is just a port of a PC game. Like Slay the Spire or Dead cells.

ABCDE,

There was one game I often recommend, but just found it here: www.silvergames.com/en/yellow

sugar_in_your_tea,

And the few that aren’t PC ports have ports on PC.

DeskP1loti,

no

Francis_Fujiwara,

No.

OrgunDonor,

You can see all the games here - https://play.google.com/googleplaygames/allgames

From what I could see there was basically nothing of note. Maybe Jetpack Joyride if you want to indulge some 12 year old mobile game.

nanoUFO,
@nanoUFO@sh.itjust.works avatar

I remember crashlands being one of the half decent games on mobile but even that released on steam.

stappern,

How is this bad?

RegularGoose,

How is it bad for a game to only be available through a shitty CCP subsidiary’s shitty storefront that no one wants to contaminate their computer with?

stappern,

You literally don’t need to use their client. You can pull these games with 100% free software. Which you can’t do with steam.

ryathal,

If you aren’t on steam or gog you don’t exist.

stappern,

TIL Fortnite doesn’t exist.

Cool story bro

Supervisor194, w Atari 2600+ Announced
@Supervisor194@lemmy.world avatar

lol $29 for 2600 Berserk? Look, I’m all for nostalgia, but the 2600 wasn’t even a good game console on the day it was released. Why don’t they showcase any 7800 games? At least those are much more like real arcade games. 2600 Berserk isn’t worth 29 cents, much less dollars.

Call_Me_Maple, w What Twisted Metal's Success Means for Future Video Game Adaptations
@Call_Me_Maple@lemmy.world avatar

The Twisted Metal TV show was a success?

nanoUFO,
@nanoUFO@sh.itjust.works avatar

Decent reviews and decent viewership, writing was average but in these days it could of been a lot worse.

BruceTwarzen,

The writing was average, but it was also a show about twisted metal.

newthrowaway20,

I honestly had no expectations going into it, and I was pleasantly surprised. The story was coherent, albeit kind of shallow, but it was a fun journey into this twisted metal world. The characters were likeable enough that I wanted to keep watching to see them develop, and it just hit a bunch of the things I wanted to see out of the series. Lots of Easter eggs if you know what you’re looking for. I really couldn’t ask for a better show about a game I barely played back in the day. Honestly I think the shallow story of the games really lended itself to the writers being able to take it in any direction they wanted.

DigitalTraveler42,

I f’n loved it, Anthony Mackie was a fantastic lead, and Will Arnet and Samoa Joe were funny AF as Sweet Tooth, can’t wait for next season, when things really start happening.

TWeaK, w Vampire Survivors co-op and new game engine upgrade is live

Woop, remote play together also. So you can play with anyone else on Steam, the game runs on your PC and they connect in.

shortypig, w where do yall go for your gaming coverage/pods?

Nextlander - giant bomb made better imo.

BeefSupreme,

Same.

RxBrad,
@RxBrad@lemmings.world avatar

There’s never been a better podcast! (I fell off them at first, but I think that was because the world sucked quite a bit right around when they started, and it leaked into their podcast. They’re pretty great now.)

I stuck with Giant Bomb right up until they canned Jeff Gerstmann. Quickly after that, Giant Bomb just felt icky. That said, I couldn’t hang with Jeff’s solo gig – while he’s still a threat, he sorely needs a co-host(s).

peasinspace, (edited )

I got into GB a bit after when Gertsmann got canned because i enjoyed Grubb and his takes/personality so much. I realize when an outfit has been going for a while like they have a regime change/ almost total personnel change would feel weird af

peasinspace,

now do u say this about current GB or their more well known previous iterations? ive only been into them since their main hosts/people being Jan, Grubb, Bakalar and Ryckert. Tam and Lucy from gamespot are frequent collaborators along with Mike Minotti.

if you’re not familiar with their current crew i suggest giving em another look, they crack me up and bring a ton of personality to the table.

From what I know, nextlander is former GB people. I’ll definitely check it out, i have lots of drive/work/gaming time to consume pods

RxBrad,
@RxBrad@lemmings.world avatar

When I bailed right after JeffG left, there were personalities I liked, and some I did not.

Also, since it was a complete dice roll who’d actually be on a given podcast: some were great; some not so much.

And more often than not, their podcasts were populated by randos not even on the crew.

adriaan, (edited ) w How Unity and Early Access helped make Dave the Diver one of 2023's biggest indie hits

It’s not really an indie game is it? large team, big money, subsidiary of a big publisher

forgotaboutlaye,

Yeah I kinda thought Battlebit Remastered would be the Unity, Early Access, Indie hit of 2023.
