TeaHands, w The official Lord of the Rings special effects studio is making a cozy hobbit game
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Shut up, as they say, and take my money.

Tathas, w Do you prefer inverted or uninverted camera, and what are your experiences with it in general?

With a controller I need invertY or I can’t do anything right.

No invert with a mouse though, unless I’m playing a flying game.

  • Tathas,

One of the earliest 3D games I remember playing was Falcon 3.0, haha.

atlasraven31, w Do you prefer inverted or uninverted camera, and what are your experiences with it in general?

I prefer inverted too. It feels more natural to me. Just like a bike, I can’t do the opposite with much success.

Elderos, (edited ) w Do you prefer inverted or uninverted camera, and what are your experiences with it in general?

Normal feels like I am controlling the vision frustum (where I want to look at), and inverted feels like I am moving the camera itself, as if it was a physical object. I can play both but I definitely have to remind myself what I am trying to control when making the switch.

I vastly prefer non-inverted, because I like the idea of just pointing where I want to look at. I hope it makes sense. All of this apply mostly for games with orbit camera.

moonsnotreal, w Do you prefer inverted or uninverted camera, and what are your experiences with it in general?
    @moonsnotreal@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I prefer uninverted purely because that is what I grew up with. On the og xbox there weren’t many options to change controls, so you had to put up with what the game gave you. I can play with inverted controls, but it feels like writing with my left hand.

competition, innovation, and choice in cloud gaming

Haha sure, keep telling yourself that

CancerMancer, w Embracer says its ‘crazy’ outlay on platform fees exceeds its spend on game development

Epic Game Store is focused so hard on making it good for devs but they have also intentionally neutered it for gamers. Does it even run on Linux yet? We all know that’s the direction Valve is taking things and it’s why Microsoft is starting to panic.

    amzd,

It kinda does? You have to use a third party app like lutris/heroic.

You could argue that steam doesn't fully work on linux either (multiple windows like chat, friendslist or library opened on the same workspace regularly crash on Wayland and I havent had the steam overlay working on any non linux native game) but these features arent even part of the epic launcher

    sugar_in_your_tea,

Huh, I’ve never used chat, I rarely use the friends list, and I think I’ve intentionally used the overlay maybe a handful of times. So I don’t think that’s a big loss.

However, they did work fine on xorg (I haven’t used any of them since switching a few months ago).

Regardless, the launcher works for the primary use cases: buying, organizing, installing, and playing games. So I think that qualifies as supporting Linux, even if there are some bugs here and there.

    HackerJoe,

Not from Epic, no. But there is Legendary github.com/derrod/legendary

It’s (relatively, don’t use the embedded browser) pure Python and runs anywhere. I also use it on my Win7 retro machine because the Epic Launcher sucks. It also supports epic DRM and can log the game in.

Round about way to say they spend less than 30% on development. Gotta pay big money to the team inventing the latest mtx addiction bs.

    sugar_in_your_tea,

So 30-40% profit? That sounds like a lot.

Finally the takeover drama is coming to an end

    Blizzard,

Shame it’s not a happy ending.

    TWeaK,

Now we can have some monopoly drama instead - fun for all the family!

derin, w Monster Hunter Now surpasses 5m downloads in its first week (Niantic)

As a massive MH fan since 4U, I do want to play this game… It’s just that I don’t want to do Niantic any favors.

Damn it… Just announce the next main line game already my bones need some proper new monsta huntin.

NuPNuA, w Every Game Pass Title From Today's Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2023 Broadcast - IGN

That’s a pretty good line up. Couple of games I was going to get anyway, and some I was less sure off so will happily try as part of the sub.

NuPNuA, w Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name Hits Xbox Game Pass Day One

This is one of the few games I was planning to get at launch this year, so this is welcome news.

BrowseMan, (edited ) w Modder Behind Oblivion Fan Remake Vows to See It Through Whether Bethesda Releases a Remaster or Not

Why do a remake of the worst ES? Lazyness?

Bethesda, do a (good!) rework of morrowind, you cowards!

    Kolanaki,
    !deleted6508 avatar

I mean… why do a remake of something good, when you can remake something not good, but make it good this time?

    Shurimal,

At least Oblivion, unlike Skyrim, had actual classes (let's not talk about the leveling system, shall we?) and spell making. Plus some really, really good questlines (including the main quest, and the whole Shivering Isles expansion was rad AF). The cities also felt larger than in Skyrim and the Arcane University was an actual university, not a random village school with 3 students. Role-play wise Skyrim was the weakest of the three modern ES games.

    OctopusKurwa,

Oblivion is pure comfort food to me. Sure it’s a broken mess to the point where it’s best not level up, but it just has this serene vibe to it.

    chunkystyles,

A few years ago I replayed Oblivion for the first time since it came out. I played a pure spellcaster with no weapons or armor and it was a goddamn blast.

I would just sprint and jump around like a moron while invisible and ignore most threats. Threats I had to deal with got vaporized.

    So much fun.

It can’t be remaked for many reasons. The best they can do is fund OpenMW or give up their assets. Actually making anything from it is not only rebuilding it, but solving many ways Morrowind is fucking broken.

And I love it for how disfunctional it is.

Pons_Aelius, w More than 37m people may be eligible for compensation after Epic vs FTC settlement

Part of the settlement requirements should be that Epic has to contact every account that is eligible to inform them of this.

Otherwise, as with so many suits and class actions like this, most will never know they are entitled to compensation.

    SlowNPC,
    @SlowNPC@kbin.social avatar

I'd hate to miss out on my $0.86

    Pons_Aelius,

It is closer to $7 per account, still not a massive amount but...

If you don't get it, someone must get the $245M.

The law firm will happily accept it as admin fees instead.

    Mr_D_Umbguy,

That process is typically part of the class action suit/settlement. It often comes with a binding agreement that by participating you are waiving your right to seek compensatory damages individually.
