@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

Holy shit, finally. One of my favorite games of all time, and with NSO online I can actually play the multiplayer over the internet. I never had friends with this game way back when.

For anyone wondering, it's basically a Kirby Metroidvania with 4 player support even with AI, you can all independently explore the world and use phone battery power ups to summon each other to your location if you're far apart and want to link up. Awesome game.

Their child made charges to a credit card without parental knowledge or consent between January 2017 to November 2018

How can you prove that the purchase made by your child and not you?

dudewitbow,

It world definately be hard to prove it. One would be purchases made while actively playing the game, and if you had an alibi by being at work or something as a parent, and the network/ip used to be purchase it doesnt match the network at work, at least the general area.

Theyll probably find a way.

DeriHunter,

Yeah that a good alibi if it was purchased early and you can prove that you’ve been in the office at that time. What happens if it happen in the evening, and a lot of people are from home so its not a strong argument. Uterine what they’ll do in this situation

dudewitbow,

Hence one, my example doesnt cover all situations, and definately not my job to look for the cover of all situations.

DeriHunter,

Didn’t exacted you to provide answers, as you said it’s not your job :) I was just wondering and engaged with a conversation

Actually, the fact that it didn't have that is the sole reason I never bought it, so it brought it to life for me

Mr_Buscemi,

Same here. This news has me fucking excited to play it.

Tried it on gamepass in the past but couldn’t stand the multiplayer component so I stopped playing.

Same here. My wife and I considered it a while back, but we opted against it after seeing how pvp heavy it is.

merc,

Honestly, most of the time it’s not PvP heavy, instead it’s dead. I play with some cousins and we’ve had 3 hour sessions where we’ve only occasionally seen other people through the spyglass. When we do encounter other people about half the time they aren’t interested in PvP either.

Having said that, unwelcome PvP at the wrong time can spoil a gaming session. Like, you can be attacked when you’re at the end of a long quest chain and lose hundreds of thousands worth of gold in treasure.

Aww, you won’t be able to bully people who don’t feel like fighting back? You’re gonna be forced to play with other people that actually want to fight? I’m so sowwy 🥺

Lmao get fucked

CancerMancer,

Please the game is already dead. Last time I hopped on (about a year ago?) I got into 3 back-to-back fights with unkillable ships and players due to cheats. Fuck that noise, PvE or nothing.

I think that before you could only set it in the character creation screen at the start. Now you can change it anytime.

@Shalakushka@kbin.social avatar

They've been promising this since Patch 1, and changing your appearance is a really common feature in games with a create a character.

LoafyLemon,

Now we can role-play a bad guy turning into a good guy and vice versa.

GreenMario,

Most games do have limits on it after creation but I did remember just now that the Saints Row series did just this. I just have Starfield on my mind and forgot.

Ravaja,

Yeah, I don’t think anyone at Larian is taking notes from Bethesda of all companies

lvxferre, w Factorio Friday Facts #377 - New new rails
@lvxferre@lemmy.ml avatar

If they’re going to rework how rails work, wouldn’t it be better to get a bit closer to Transport Tycoon in this aspect? I think that it’s close to perfect: simple but deep. It’s relatively effortless to get a train route done, and you basically only have diagonal and straight rails, but it’s damn hard to make your route efficient.

4am,

I think you answered your own question.

lvxferre, (edited )
@lvxferre@lemmy.ml avatar

If I understood the FFF correctly, that is not what they’re doing; they aren’t working with a half dozen straight sections, each fitting a single “square” (in this case a 2x2), and leaving curves up to the player. Instead they’re adding a new curve (the half-S) to be used with the other pieces.

For reference here’s how it works in Transport Tycoon / OpenTTD:
A cropped screenshot of OpenTTD, showing pieces of rail. Some isolated, some forming a branching railroad.

If implementing something similar in Factorio (note: the colours mean nothing, they’re just to distinguish the pieces of rail):
a Factorio screenshot poorly edited in Kolourpaint, to show the same rail concept as OpenTTD.

The later can be smoothed out to look a bit more like curves, but the basic units are all straight and diagonal rails.

countstex, w Do you prefer inverted or uninverted camera, and what are your experiences with it in general?
@countstex@feddit.dk avatar

Standard unless there’s and flying involved, either in atmosphere or space, then I invert Y. Can’t imagine ever inverting X, that just blows my kind. Been playing since before WASD was a thing, so I’ve seen most implementations I guess.

    I guess I always have it my head I’m the object I’m controlling rather than the camera following, so my brain defaults to more direct control? I do tend to favour “in-cockpit” / first person view.

    funnystuff97, (edited ) w Factorio Friday Facts #377 - New new rails

    I haven’t even read the article yet and I’m at full sail.

    Edit after reading:

    The new rails look gorgeous, and I need those new S-bends immediately. And those smooth curves!

    And this:

    We have increased the big electric pole range to 32 to go along with this.

    is how you know a game dev is in touch with their audience.

    Although this confirms my suspicions from last week that 1.1.x maps will be incompatible with the 2.x update, which is a shame but completely understandable. That just means that I have to hurry up and launch my first rocket before that happens! (I swear I’m making actual progress and not just staring blankly at my machines at work)

    pivot_root,

    Full rail*

    programmer_belch,
    @programmer_belch@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    It says that you can still use the old rails but you won’t be able to build them the same way. You can just rebuild the trails you really need or want the other way

    funnystuff97,

    As you can probably guess, the new rail curves will be incompatible with the old ones. Savegames from 1.1 can be opened and trains will still run on previously built rails just like normal, but you won’t be able to construct the old rails at all anymore. In some future Factorio update when we decide to drop 1.1 savegame compatibility (Let’s say 2.1), we will eventually get rid of the old rail shapes completely.

    Ah, I misinterpreted that, it seems you’re right. Still, it looks like there will come a point where 1.1.x maps will no longer be supported, which is again understandable.

    Shiggles,

    It sounds more like you’d have to load the savegame in 2.0, then load it from 2.1. Theoretically they aren’t changing Nauvis all that much, so I can’t see why it would be unsupported just yet.

    programmer_belch,
    @programmer_belch@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    I’m sure it will come with a way to update the map like opening with the second to last update to reformat it. It would be a shame for some megabases I’ve seen to just stop being able to play them

    And not a game where I play as Smeagol?

    ApathyTree, w Do you prefer inverted or uninverted camera, and what are your experiences with it in general?
    @ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    It depends on the game.

    Typically I prefer normal, but there are some games where inverted camera just makes it easier, like games with full 3D exploration (flying/swimming). I do sometimes only invert the vertical for these, so I’m that maniac.

    If you are an older gamer, you’re probably right that you picked it up in the early camera control games (ps1/2 for me), because changing camera function wasn’t an option and a -lot- of games inverted by default back then. I believe the logic was to treat your view camera like a real video camera, where you push the back to the left to point the camera lens to the right, but most people don’t have that type of experience so it’s less intuitive, which is why it’s less common now. I blame mostly Spyro flying challenges for my limited inversion use.

    And like you, I struggle with games that don’t allow me to pick, which is most of the older games, even remastered 😭 it’s so hard to re-learn.

    prole, (edited )

    One big thing I love about my Steam Deck is the ridiculous amount of control customization available with Steam input.

    Worst case, if there’s no option to invert in the game, you can change it in Steam with one click and it’ll remember your settings for each game.

    dan1101, w Do you prefer inverted or uninverted camera, and what are your experiences with it in general?

    Inverted Y, I played a lot of flight sims like Wing Commander and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe in my youth. I can’t play with normal Y, it constantly messes me up.
