The 1.5 release (Feb 2022) was where it went from pretty good on some platforms to really good on Stadia and next gen. I can’t speak to PC, personally as I’ve only played on Stadia and PS5, though.
Yeah, I played it day 1 on PC. Game mechanics issues aside (which are consistent between versions), it ran pretty well and I never even encountered anything game breaking. I suspect the PC version was actually the best at launch (probably still is since it’s ported to other systems).
Those last gen versions should never have even been attempted.

this right here. I didn’t experience any bugs at all on pc but the game is just bad, the world doesn’t feel lived in, and the gameplay is just meh (some guns were fun though)
Working public transit would have gone a long way towards this kind of immersion. It’s a damn shame too, because the system technically exists, and there are even placeholders for stations.
I think there were a lot of resources put towards getting the whole damn thing to run on last gen XB and PS4 which just made so many things impossible, and obviously you dont really want to have a couple versions out there without feature parity. They ended up with it anyway, but I think we may have seen a more complete product on launch had those dev resources not been needed for the older consoles.
I played the whole thing on ps5, did about 90 hours. It’s good now. Especially the mantis blades that come out of your arms and the quick hacks that let you control the cameras then hack all the guards so they shoot themselves or fry their implants. I did a ninja hacker build. Totally op but it was still fun. And I’ve heard good things about the gorilla arms.
The city feels more alive on ps5, lots of people, and I never had any issues with the cars or motorcycle glitching. If you like cyberpunk stuff it’s worth it and the dlc is coming out. There are areas where you can tell where they had to pull back, like the clothing options which all suck and the body stuff which has no purpose or unless you are changing clothes. Also I didn’t like V’s voice character at first but it grew on me. The acting is good all around.
The game is more stable now, however it is still as shallow as a puddle and major systems like driving and melee combat still feel as clunky and unfun as day one
It strikes me as odd just how much fanboys can stretch their fandom of anything. Promise space and universe, best and the biggest ever. Deliver local park bench in average texture quality. Then after, now mandatory, apology JPEG on Twitter they release HD version of same texture and everyone goes “ooh, aaaah, it’s good now”. As if the rest was never promised. One needs look no further than Crowbcats videos for these downgrades.
Only company that did the right thing was Hello Games, who sat down and worked their ass of and gave all the fixes for free and implemented everything promised.

But the game is a lot better. Very little bugs. Spent some hours with it via Game Pass. I enjoy it way more versus Day 1 release. But the core mechanics are still a problem. That loop of “mine, find stuff, build a quick base (new), leave planet” is still present. They’ve just added extra stuff to do, but that little quirk is what makes the game get boring REALLY fast. Even the planets are still single biome which creates this lack of need or desire for exploration. I want to do things outside of that, and while I can with missions, the missions are boring and lackluster. Without a doubt, the game is still decent in its own right. But $60 dollars? Hell no.
You just can’t fix how a game was intended to be played unfortunately.
Well, the loop is no longer necessary apart from fixing your ship. I played it that way and completed a game without a single base. I had to place some buildings to progress with initial quest line but I never maintained it or got back to it for anything other than to progress quest line.
As for content, yes, there could always be room for more but it’s far from empty and boring. You can manage fleets now, manage villages, do daily quests with other people, etc. There are things to do. Things to discover. Hunting for unique ships is especially interesting as they are located in specific planets and specific universes so use of gates is necessary.
So far game had many DLCs, all of which were free. They sat down and worked hard until game was complete. CDPR on the other hand still doesn’t have many things they’ve promised and now there’s DLC for 30€, while base game is still 60€. Still unpolished and buggy, lacking content promised initially.
At the end of the day this is all subjective so far be it from me to claim objectivity. That being said I don’t think you could really classify a lot of that as “things to do”
Managing fleets is just about W keying in space until you see a frigate and buying a couple ships with high stats. But in my experience stats don’t even really matter because the missions are almost always a success anyway. Speaking of fleet missions they are imo the most mobile game-y “come back in 26 hours” passive resource thing imaginable. No interactivity, just press a button and come back later.
Managing the village was fun for the first I’m gonna say 2 hours. Now it’s just another passive resource that pays out every 24 hours and makes me do some combat every time I visit. That well is about 2 inches deep and produces just enough water for me to call it a feature.
Daily quests are very samey. A lot of fetch quests for miscellaneous doodads that basically boil down to "go to the same terrestrial bunker you’ve seen 100 times on 100 worlds, Kill some sentinels (or bugs), interact with console, Get some cryptic dialog, return to quest giver, receive dosh. Again, Kinda fun at first, gets boring as hell very quick.
Ship collecting is at least interesting in that the RNG and strategy mesh nicely. But without any way to customize your ship outside of just finding one that looks the way you want there’s nothing more to do with them besides look at them. There’s no real reason to have more than 1.
Listen I don’t think the game is particularly bad. I’d even say it’s an upper tier “podcast game”, hell I have 100+ hours in it over like 3 years myself. But let’s not kid ourselves and say it’s a great game. It’s a perfectly Passable time waster to keep your hands busy while you do something else like chat with friends or read an audiobook (see: “podcast game”)
Oh for sure I’ve played better games and I can’t call it great. It’s an okay game and I have similar amount of hours in it. But I think company needs to be praised for not doing what virtually every other company does these days and that’s to make an apology video claiming it was a good lesson for them and next time they’ll do better and to thank us for trusting them with our money. But they had no issue selling pre-orders, ultimate and platinum editions while fully knowing product is not finished.
And yet another free DLC from Hello Games. Even if you don’t like the game, you can’t really be mad when they drop content updates for free like this on a regular basis.
It’s faithful enough to 5e that my partner and I broke out the players handbook to do some long term class planning together. A couple of things are different, like buffs to frenzy barbarian and changes to roleplay feats or spells to have a more mechanical benefit.
But yes, as a long term DM for 5e, it’s faithful to 5e.
Larian has been absolutely phenomenal through their process on both of these. Kept with the ‘it’ll release when it’s ready’ model, the exception with the alpha/early release on BG3 which I would say helped improve the quality of the Release product that much more, through testing/reports and cash influx without the ‘pre-order today, get whatever you get tomorrow’ mantra.
The most significant change I noticed was you can cast any number of leveled spells per turn. That’s a pretty significant shift from 5e’s rule of only one leveled spell (excluding using action surge if you dip into fighter) per turn.
However it makes the player stronger so I doubt anyone is really complaining about it.
I’ve been playing BG3 and perhaps I’m misunderstanding but you only have one action and one bonus action per turn and you only have so many spell slots per caster. Unless you have a leveled spell as an action and a separate leveled spell as a bonus action and enough spell slots for both you’d be hard pressed to cast more than a single spell per turn per character
It’s been a while since I played 5e, but if I remember correctly you could do some fuckery with Haste and/or Sorcery Points if you don’t follow that rule.
Plenty of spells cast as a bonus action. With a cleric I can cast Spirt Guardians and Spiritual Weapon on the same turn. Or polymorph and mass cure wounds. It makes a significant difference for bonus action spells.
They are really making it hard not to say “Silksong was the best game of 2025, and it was $20, and the DLC is going to be FREE” every time almost any other game announces its pricing, aren’t they?
I’m looking forward to the Frame. I have no interest in giving any money to Meta and Valve has been great with Linux support. I’ve seen people complain about the specs, but if it’s a reasonable price it looks pretty good to me!
Also curious about the Frame. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my HTC Vive Pro 2 but it was $$$$$. The inside out camera based tracking is the way to go as long as they did it well. Also hoping they have some upper-tier audio hardware so you can use your own wired headphones.
I’m afraid of the price… this looks much more capable and powerful than the Index, which was quite expensive, I suspect it might end up in a similar price range, if not higher. But let’s hope.
Interestingly, it seems to be using a snapdragon ARM-based unit. Which means it requires another layer of emulation/translation for running Steam games standalone. It’s said it uses FEX (fex-emu.com), probably combined/integrated with Proton.

but since index has a huge range, depending on the accessories you buy with it “less than index”, can mean anything from <$600 to <$1100.
But in reality this has to compete with Quest 3, and preferably also with Quest 4 when that releases.
So I think it really should be on the lower side. <$600 would be good, <$500 would be great, <$700 would be okay
So from what I’m seeing, it’s just repackaging all the DLC and CC stuff into one bundle. Awful. A lot of the CC mods are not even that good. I don’t see how they think this is a good value over the bundle that comes with all the DLC already.
SMG2 is probably the best 3D Mario game, but since I already own them I’ll just keep what I have.
Dolphin can play them both just fine. If it’s anything like the last pack, it’ll be the laziest possible emulation anyway. This shit should have been in the NSO subscription if they’re not actually going to remake it.
I don't understand why people have issues with shows like this, it's not like ads on annoying news websites, people want to watch them, I'm not watching but I think it's quite exciting waiting for a trailer you want to see (silksong for example) compared to seeing it in a news article afterwards.
Lack of details, initial backward compatibility list having only ~20% of games with basic testing finished, the need for SD Express cards that are hard to find. Even the GCK situation is probably due to cost/availability issues that will improve over time.
This DevKit situation looks to me like another example of this.
The Switch 1 launch was also a shitshow. Their big launch title was literally a Wii U game and they had the same hodge podge of “what if wii sports but now”. They just had “the nindies” and… yeah.
Considering that Nintendo have actually always genuinely innovated in terms of marketing and more or less set the gold standard for the modern “just communicate direct to consumers”? I increasingly don’t believe that they have this secret vault of finished games that are ready to go whenever. They are just as fucked as everyone else. They just figured out they can tell Leakers that they actually totally have twelve games ready to release Whenever and that gets regurgitated since basically all of the remnants of games media grew up on Nintendo.
Very excited for this! Honestly, I don’t understand all the negativity surrounding the devs going dark. I thought the game was fine the way it was shortly after launch. I don’t really get the need for an unending flow of content and updates.
Because G*mers need a constant stream of news telling them that their current chosen favorite game is actively being worked on lest they forget and “move on” to something else.
I swear, the sheer amount of bullshit (complaining about character models, character pronouns, character creators, literally anything else) I see from gaming communities and subreddits is actually ridiculous. G*mers are literally the most entitled people on the goddamn planet.
Or the developers created a roadmap of updates in 2024 for their early access game then disappeared without any warning and didn't deliver on their promises. It's not the end of the world but writing negative reviews because the developers didn't deliver isn't entitlement.
Turtle Rock said “Okay, we’re done developing content. We’ll move on to new things now.” And people took that to mean it was a failed, dead, and worthless game. Whereas the active state where they left it was pretty solid, still runs, and I have a lot of fun with it. It just wasn’t built to be endlessly live-service.
That’s kinda my point with my previous comment. If the devs say they’re done working on a game, most g*mers will take that to mean “stop playing our game and find something else” which makes literally zero sense.
You presumably spent money on this, let alone however many hours playing and having fun, and now just because the people who made it say they aren’t adding anything new in the foreseeable future you totally drop the game. But I also kinda meant in another sense for stuff that’s actively in development.
Take Elder Scrolls 6 for example (or even Cyberpunk 2077): the announcement trailer came out 7 years ago, and yet there have been other projects in the pipeline as well, such as Starfield and other updates for other games. You will get a constant stream of posts from impatient G*mers complaining, bitching and whining, coping and seething about “the fact that there’s been no news of Elder Scrolls 6 for years.”
My response always has been and always will be “then go make your own game and see how easy it is to make it do all the things you want”
I call em full version demos. Specifically because I buy when it’s good. The 2 hour steam thing sometimes, just isn’t enough to really know. It usually is tho.
The “update” is from a month ago. Pocketpair shared the patents they are accused of infringing and the payments Nintendo wants.
The patents are for “throwing an object in 3D space to capture a target” (throwing a pokeball) and “moving characters to a virtual field when an event is triggered” (entering a battle) the payment requested is 10 million yen or 64,000 USD. A paltry sum for a billion dollar company suing over a game that made tens of millions.
The patents were awarded to Nintendo after Palword had already released a trailer for their game showing gameplay. Pocketpair also released an earlier game called Craftopia which is Palworld but the pals are just straight up animals. It has the same systems Palworld does but didn’t sell very well.
Even if there weren’t a million examples of prior art, the fact that patents on game mechanics are even allowed is just awful for the industry as a whole, and we as players should absolutely rail against this. Every game borrows from other games’ ideas and mechanics - I’d bet money that there hasn’t been a single fully “original” game in 20+ years. If companies are allowed to patent every little mechanic (even ones they didn’t come up with), the industry as a whole will just become impossible to operate in.
It’s a Japanese patent. I’m not sure how it would hold up internationally, but Pocketpair is also a Japanese company and this lawsuit is entirely within the Japanese legal system. That probably gives Nintendo a bit of an advantage since they’re such a large and iconic Japanese corporation.
