CosmoNova,

Oh, that might have been me. Installed Cachy the other day and tried out a lot of packages just to see what works. Sorry about that.

CosmoNova,

I mean have you SEEN his latest cash grab? It doesn‘t even need his name attached to reek of failure.

CosmoNova,

Saw the 120€ price tag of the special edition+ and was so disgusted I lost all interest in it immediately. I mean even the base game price seems too steep but that‘s just a huge red flag for me. Definitely a contender of „might pick it up for a tenner on a sale in a few years.“

CosmoNova,

Larian also had to sell 30% of their company to Tencent to raise more money during development after they already raised money on Kickstarter. If it was a case of WotC just giving money they probably wouldn‘t have had to do that. Good games take time but also a lot of money. Let‘s hope they‘re not selling more of their company any time soon because they could end up being the one being pointed at.

CosmoNova,

To be fair it‘s as absurd as it was inevitable. Gamepass was always meant as this temporary thing you can try out to play some new games until everyone jumps ship because of increased prices. It has been preached for years. No one could‘ve seriously thought this was a long term alternative to buying games or at least buying licenses to games on Steam. All online subscriptions are scams in the process.

CosmoNova,

EA 0.00052 seconds after hearing Nintendo is the worst game company…

CosmoNova,

So basically EA got tired of watching Ubisoft and Nintendo fight over who is worse and dropped a nuke.

CosmoNova,

The funny thing is the original is only playable with fan patches so technically I can see demand for a remaster. They just really fumbled this in a weird way.

CosmoNova,

They‘re instead making a farming focused game next that looks an awful lot like Nintendo‘s upcoming Ditto game. That itself looks a lot like a Palworld clone with Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley characteristics.

Personally I would’ve preferred they overhaul base building in Palworld itself just the way they presented their new game because it‘s rather shallow in the former and yet has too many overlaps with the latter for me to justify a new purchase.

If they‘re going to release a shooter it will no doubt have a lot of overlaps with Palworld too.

CosmoNova, (edited )

Which still should not be illegal, right? And believe me I have no problem when Sony and Tencent go at each other‘s throat. Let them fight. But I remember reading the same type of discussion about Palworld. You can‘t protect a style or a genre. Especially when said genre is as old as the medium. Unless Tencent stole code or use the exact same names it should still be legally distinct enough to be perfectly fine. It‘s up to consumers if they want to buy a blatant ripoff.

CosmoNova,

I didn‘t see footage or screenshots where they literally stole the likeness of a character. It would be bad if they did that but I‘ve seen no evidence of it. As far as I know mixing generic tribe aesthetic with generic sci-fi aesthetic can‘t be protected either. I don‘t want to repeat my previous comment but I don‘t see the issue here. It would open a barrel of worms for the entire industry if vague aesthetics are suddenly protected. The lawsuits would never stop and small dev teams would make concessions left and right to fence off armies of lawyers.

CosmoNova,

Given they were literally on the payroll of organized crime and happily profited off of blood money I‘d say it‘s quite ironic how they abuse the law.

CosmoNova,

They are really good games that me and my siblings enjoyed a lot. I‘ll probably replay them again one day but on a computer.

CosmoNova,

So they‘re selling a literal piece of plastic that becomes utterly useless the moment you lose access to their subscription service. Also, 14 games that they plan to release over time? Damn they must hate their customers with a passion.

CosmoNova,

I don‘t think it does anything for game preservation. What is it preserving exactly? Not the titles. Those are subscription based. A piece of plastic where you can insert your handheld in? Just get a cheap VR headset for your phone. And if Nintendo thought Wario Land was so great then why did they stop making those games like 2 decades ago?

CosmoNova,

Konami and AI are a match made in heaven (or hell, depending on how you look at it) then.

CosmoNova,

I believe existing work doesn‘t matter much in Japanese patent law for some reason. You either have patented it or you haven‘t. That‘s what we‘ve been seeing with this lawsuit again and again. Honestly, Pocketpal should consider moving to Singapore or something to avoid this bullshit.

CosmoNova,

Alright, that was unexpected. To be honest it doesn‘t even make sense. I’m assuming they‘ll lose that patent in trial as quickly as they got it then. How ridiculous.

CosmoNova,

Unfortunately AAA studios have a long rat tail of unproductive execs and managers that take a huge pay cut and investors need to be happy too so their games will soon cost $100.

CosmoNova,

It can be stopped just like climate change but we won‘t and kill humanity instead apparently.

CosmoNova,

Working for a billion dollar company is the only reason you need here. There are far more of course but that should be enough reason.

At Gamescom, it felt like the industry now has a plan: make games quicker | Opinion (www.gamesindustry.biz) angielski

“And at least part of that plan involves AI”, reads the subtitle. To be clear, not an endorsement from me. Some of this reads very strangely to me, but this is boots on the ground reporting from Gamescom of developer sentiment....

CosmoNova,

It will mean they’ll offer less, cost more and have even more bugs and crashes.

CosmoNova,

That will backfire hard when AAA gaming implodes next year and consumers will demand quality over quantity. But I expected no less from a bunch of execs high on profits who never even booted up a game in their life. The bonus crap they promise you for a pre-order or a deluxe edition at the end of many trailers paint a grim picture. We’re not just talking about cosmetic either and I know some games have done this for a while but it’s across the board now when AAA sales are actually going down. Nobody has time or money for that slop.

CosmoNova,

I haven‘t played it but it‘s arguably the least discussed Metal Gear Solid game. At least people talk about 4 and 5. 3 literally just sits in the middle and sort of… exists.

CosmoNova,

That could be a reason to not discuss the game, though. It‘s probably not as rough or memeable.

CosmoNova,

What is „my language“? Because depending on where the game is from this changes. Have they thought of that? Because I know from experience that US companies cannot comprehend speaking more than one language.

CosmoNova,

I mean yeah and that‘s very unfortunate. Users need more control over these things. This is as rushed as Youtube‘s automatic translation slop. Most people speak more than one language. When will Americans learn that?

CosmoNova,

It will never happen on a large scale. Not as long as there is this much money to be made. I have no doubts these freaks will keep trying and make our lives harder, though.

CosmoNova,

Literally scheduled stupidity. I’m actually surprised they were this upfront with it being AI and reacted this quickly to backlash. This could’ve gotten a lot worse with a lesser understanding team believe it or not.

CosmoNova,

I think it‘s very one sided again unfortunately because only one side is interviewed. Although it is interesting to hear how much harm the writers receive through corporate bullshittery. Given how ZA/UM started out and where this odyssey has headed since I‘d say this is nothing short of a modern Greek tragedy about greed and selling out.

Xbox Drops Work on ‘Contraband’ Video Game After Four Years (www.bloomberg.com) angielski

Xbox is canceling Contraband, announced in 2021 from Avalanche Studios (Just Cause), after four years of radio silence, sources tell Bloomberg News. This news arrives weeks after a mass layoff in which Xbox canceled several other big titles. - Jason Schreier

CosmoNova,

Which is exactly what I expected them to do. I laughed at Blizzard fans being hopeful about the acquisition because things didn’t go well at the time. It was always just another step towards closure.

CosmoNova,

Steam is criminally understaffed and always caves in with no resistance when any actor wants to block access to thousands of games to millions of potential customers. This is just the latest chapter in a long history of them neglecting their users.

For example a large number of affected games in this case have already been blocked in Germany for a while because Steam refused to implement any type of age verification. They didn‘t even want a dialog with authorities and flat out region blocked affected games instead.

Now, I will say that this move by Germany was complete hypocrisy because it only affected unrated games and porn, when other 18+ games are still perfectly available because they „only“ contain massive amounts of violence. Somehow age verification isn‘t necessary here for some reason and gambling with cosmetic items is fine too? Good to know we have our priorities straight. /s

Whatever the case, the point is Steam always choses the path of least resistance. Germany has a system that lets users verify their age anonymously. Sony has implemented it for their store no problem but Steam doesn‘t even bother to have a single German speaker in their support team.

CosmoNova,

Finally we can watch all the trailers that radical christian groups allow us to watch without interruptions!

CosmoNova,

I noticed something was off when looking at the childish comments of the video and although it started out normally it quickly began hinting at the same anti-woke bullshit talking points they always try to apply to everything that doesn‘t match their twisted, self-enforced and ultimately self-contradictory world view. It‘s a terrible video by a terribly bitter loser who couldn‘t figure out why Ubisoft and other AAA companies are failing when it‘s spelled out for him to save his life. No idea why that even gets posted here and users are certainly only upvoting it here because they only read the title but I find it fascinating how we found the guy who could run Ubisoft even faster into the ground than it‘s current lead.

CosmoNova,

How do their gamepads compare to the DualSense? They‘re in the same price range after all.

CosmoNova,

There are “challenges concerning scaling up companies, attracting financing” and “managing cyclical waves of labour lay-off”, the Commission announcement stated.

So they don‘t actually want to do anything right now because the same scummy companies that kill live service games are laying off workforce en masse as well? Ugh, I didn‘t expect much but that‘s rich.

They‘re basically saying: „Apologies, but we can‘t improve things right now. You see, the industry is too rotten already.“

As expected from the EU commission that is just as corrupt as AAA studios.

CosmoNova,

Fallout 3 isn‘t even a good game on the surface and I doubt anyone actually wants a UE5 slop version of it but people will buy it anyway not knowing they actually won‘t enjoy it because they haven‘t touched it since release if they ever even played it. It‘s success was entirely carried by hype but was ultimately already outdated when it came out. There is no logical reason to revive it because there are endless better alternatives out there but luckily for Todd Howard Bethesda fans aren‘t logical creatures and will buy that shit and proceed to not beat it and forget about it within a week.

CosmoNova,

How would it be? Unfortunately there are still a lot of consumer hostile practices going on that are completely legal in the EU. I‘m no expert of course so I‘m curious what EU law would regulate this exact practice.

CosmoNova,

That‘s different than a dock which you could argue is part of the console.

CosmoNova,

You can‘t deny it did boost Jennifer English‘s career to a high degree. You could say it‘s not all about her role as Shadowheart alone but it definitely helped kickstart her online presence. She went from voicing children side characters to being one of the most prolific and recognizable voices in gaming within two years and I doubt her role in Expedition 33 where she was heavily featured in promotional material was the last we‘ve heard of her.

CosmoNova,

This isn’t about me or my perception. I am saying this because she said so herself and the Imdb Page you linked tells the same story. She broke her mold with Shadowheart and now she is getting much bigger and more diverse roles. But feel free to tell me about a game prior to BG3 where she took center stage for marketing like she did for Expedition 33.

CosmoNova,

Those roles are tiny. Like I don‘t even know why you‘re so strongly against the idea that she wasn‘t that big before. You literally just have to look up her actual roles.

And yes she was a major factor of the marketing campaign. Again, you just have to look up the trailers.

CosmoNova,

She just has become pickier with what she auditions for.

Most actors in gaming are certainly not becoming pickier with AI looming at the horizon so this is a strong sign that she is in fact doing very good. Certainly better than voicing Child #5 in Original Sin 2. And that’s literally the entire point I’m trying to get across here.

CosmoNova,

She probably did more work on BG3 alone than all previous works combined though. The experience alone boosted their performance immensely. Neil Newbon compared his 4 years at the studio with 4 seasons of shooting a TV show and his role was about the same size as Jennifer‘s. BG3 wasn‘t just any job. Especially not for her. Anyone who actually follows her can attest to that. To say it didn‘t change the trajectory of her life and career takes some serious ignorance.

CosmoNova,

The game had a huge cast with many memorable characters and moments. Not everyone was going to shine through especially with some fantastic performances like you mentioned.

I think the title of the post is just deceiving and should be changed to the title of the actual article. And perhaps the article title was changed too but it is a more accurate title of the situation.

CosmoNova,

I would have much more trust in their vision if the creative director did compare it to a deck-builder instead of more souls slop.

To be fair it‘s not clear to me whether the author of the article or the CD made that comparison but seeing how many huge and beloved IPs they‘re throwing around doesn‘t make me hopeful unfortunately. I‘d rather see them show off their (hopefully deep) understanding of the toolbox they‘re working with than dropping big names like Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate 3 or Darksouls.

Hytale, once touted as the Minecraft killer, is ceasing development (www.destructoid.com) angielski

After being in development for over 10 years, Hytale, a sandbox game from the Hypixel Studios team with support from Riot, has officially been cancelled. Hypixel Studios’ CEO, Noxy, announced the cancellation on X on June 23, with the official Hytale forums following suit.

CosmoNova,

I think so, yes. Although I dipped out of their blogposts around the time they rented some big office space. That was years ago at this point.

CosmoNova,

Didn’t know about this. This is amazing.
