Krauerking,

You know what? The future is probably not PC handhelds then. Android is having its own sideloading issues but the real difference between an android based handheld and the premium PC ones is the ability to play AAA games and stuff with anti cheat but i personally… Dont really care to play those games these days. They suck.

We now have steam for android emulators and Valve is working on their own.
Have you seen what $200 will get you in that space? The Anbernic RG556 has an AMOLED screen and then all the functional usefulness of an android 13 phone. With hall effect sticks and triggers attached.

If we want small lighter devices we need small lighter games and to push studios to make them if they want to sell to us.

Krauerking,

I have been procrastinating and exploring every nook and cranny of that world. Its amazing how much it feels real and lived in. Like they have the whole thing figured out down to why some screws are more rusted than others.

I am so reluctant to start act 3 cause i already struggled with the first funeral. Its gonna break me i just know it.

Krauerking,

So i dont see Sonic Racing mentioned much.

Its one of the other things i use to relax after Silk Song and i find it really interesting. Its not a clone of mario kart in that each car legit feels like it drives differently. And you have to play smart but can also play wildly because of the insane items and shortcuts.

I think it reminds me of Gran Turismo but with mario kart items. And Sonic music. I dont know if i just wanted something different and i am giving it more credit.

Krauerking,

Any game like vampire survivors.
Passive bullet hells.

Literally people say its the thing they play when they dont have the energy for something else the way that people use fast food to replace cooking.
Easy to spin up and there are so many knockoffs that are “fine” but barely different.

It’s easy and pretty much automatic but filled with dopamine giving stimuli even if it wears off really fast. It makes it about as addictive as fast food too.

Krauerking,

Its about watching FMVs made by the team that made Thank Goodness you’re Here.

Essentially you are paying a one time fee to the weirdest streaming platform ever.

Krauerking,

Nope. There is an overarching story happening if you want to pay attention but they just recorded a bunch of absurdist content and charge you to watch it in their own software.

Its like a streaming platform where you literally have to watch the previous episode to get the next.

Krauerking,

It was originally aired weekly on a schedule like real TV for that gameboy with a crank looking console, Playdate.

That console constantly feels like arts thesis projects.

Krauerking,

Telltale games were just like that. Its episodes in that each section has an arc and usually a cliffhanger of an ending.

Its part marketing and part way to keep everyone interested and feeling like they get the story at the same time. Its meant to feel like TV where you had control of the story to some degree but it continues forward no matter what.

Krauerking,

Another lazy developed game that relies on the end user having extremely overpriced and over designed hardware to do the heavy lifting to make it run. If it doesnt work blame the users for not optimizing their hardware as you can see in their steam review responses.

Also lazy RNG guns are not fun or balanced. Wild that a blue can be better than an orange gun just cause RNG rolled better.
And enemies that dont stand out cause they 4k textured cell shaded enemies in natural colors?

And lets not even get into the fact that they stole all the parts of this game from other big games. (Where have i seen a villian putting a brain implant into our main character, and then the ship crashing for us to figure out how to get it out while stumbling on a small outpost in struggle?) stuff I’d probably forgive if it ran and didnt look like it was trying to be everything and nothing.

Krauerking,

Name the last metroidvania that was that themed and had good fight mechanics before hollow knight?

Cause axiom verge had been like a 100% clone of metroid and Dust came out in 2012 almost a decade earlier.
Hollow Knight was for a lot of people their first Metroidvania that tried to create its own thing and stuck to openworld of metroidvanias while letting you use different mechanics to move forward to bot make it linear.

Its beloved cause its honestly a rare game type.

Krauerking,

Im gonna bet it was the Mantises cause that was like the great filter boss fight and ridiculously hard. That wall grab ability negates a lot of developers puzzles so i kind of get making sure you can fight the creatures you will find after.
Im hoping for a bit more fluid fighting.

Krauerking,

Im laughing at how many games changed their launch window away from silksong and instead are going against BL4.
For some reason people arent seeing competition in Randy.

Krauerking,

This is the kind of fun jank and efficiency I love that you can’t get in whole open world maps. This is they made the map match the game they want the player to experience and not the game that fits on that specific open map.

Krauerking,

My problem with steam is is trying to run anything that isn’t steam without having to go fully into the Linux OS with a keyboard attached.

That and the whole super drained battery from having to be on to update any games thing.

Krauerking,

I’m sure they will have ads in the Xbox launcher because why wouldn’t Microsoft.

But it does look like it essentially kills all the graphical and backend items of windows for single loading this UI from the videos, and then boots up the extra items when requested for the full OS.
I would actually be worried it won’t properly kill them swapping back and then you lose the gains until a reboot.

I really want this to be a low margin device they sell meant to boost gamepads subscriptions and it ends up being easy to modify or control cause I would literally reward them with the subscription for that.
If only they can resist being Microsoft.

Krauerking,

I would absolutely put that game up high on the lists as it is a perfect piece of atmospheric gameplay of misery incarnate.

Krauerking,

You are wrong about borderlands as there is one more and it is pretty muc h perfect.

Tales from the Borderlands.
Shame they never made a sequel for it but the artistry, music and story are all so well crafted. Someone loved Borderlands making that.

Krauerking, (edited )

So I think it’s actually really important that the games that would be considered objective masterpieces would have to overcome any language barriers and be an experience approachable by anyone. You can learn the mechanics to enjoy the gameplay without words
So:

  • Portal
  • Journey
  • Binding of Isaac
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • Metro 2033 (which I have sat on and I believe even if it was entirely in Russian you would still get it )
  • DOOM (original you don’t need words you shoot)
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Katamari Damacy

Then there are dialogue option stories that are fantastic stories that I could consider greats but shareable masterpieces is hard to say as they rely on you speaking the language both literally and then gameplay wise:

  • Stanley Parable
  • Outer Wilds
  • Tales From the Borderlands
  • To the Moon
  • Talos Principle
  • Golf Club Wasteland
  • Dead Space
Krauerking,

I always forget how absolutely awesome Escape From Butcher Bay is until I’m reminded of its existence and its shockingly unfair to that game.

Krauerking,

It’s such a good puzzle box but I don’t think I would call The Room, a masterpiece while it’s still yet another great puzzle box game.

They are masterpieces in puzzles but maybe not games? I dunno why I don’t consider them.

Krauerking,

How do you even begin to care about anything in that game when you are basically mashing buttons for hours and just listening to people complain about how shit life is?

I get its an art piece of living the existence you are thrown into but it feels like a confusing mess even gameplay wise for the starting hours that people that have finished it I feel miss how unfun it is at first.

I didn’t even know why I was now stuck on the other side of a wall in a union dispute and I just couldn’t be bothered to restart the game to try something else after how long it took to get dressed the first time.

Krauerking,

Right… So what game gets the most of those bits the most right?

That’s how you start to separate out the best. Not that complex.

Krauerking,

I do think the Spyro games are probably the absolute best of the collect-a-thon genre. Joyful and fun and with fun puzzles. I am worried I am too biased to say it though since I have 120%/100%/117% beat the games multiple multiple multiple times.

Krauerking,

I still think the series is actually the best Space Opera and I do mean opera. But they have some great stories.

I’d love another Riddick game too. I’ll settle for the 4th movie I guess for now

Krauerking,

Catherine deserves to be on someone’s list so glad you have it and Gravity rush is a good choice cause it was a fun use of mechanics.

Krauerking,

Yeah that was a kick in the gut to all the joy of discovering aliens.

Krauerking,

So the logic is…

The laws only apply to the poor except for exceptions where rich are on their way to poor and can be used as examples of the exception .

Krauerking,

Not OP but Tales from the Borderlands 1 us my favorite of the telltale game collection and has some of my favorite music videos ever and wears its emotions on its sleeve for you to empathize with its characters in clever real ways.

Krauerking,

If I was a real fan.
Nah na na na na na na na na

Thank you Gwen Stefani for saying all the na’s for me.

Krauerking,

Ah yeah we are all pedants here and such while I understand and mostly agree with your comment I now must include.

Uhh, actually we don’t have a justice system, we have a legal system.

Krauerking,

"Its happening to you, not them, is the motto of so many people who prefer waiting to get their own face eaten.

Krauerking,

Ahh starting out with your parents money.
The greatest cheat code of the real world.

Krauerking,

The top 10% of the population now accounts for over 50% of all economic activity. They have a level of income and reserved cash that is hard to comprehend and that just starts at $250,000 US salary and goes up from there.
Those people are spending so freely and so completely it’s practically the entire economy and we are forced to compare ourselves to them.

The extra annoying part is that in a population of 350million people in the US, 10% is still about 35 million people. So there is more than enough of them to compare to and for companies to aim at.

The 90% of us are the working poor and it’s not that others are stretching their money more they either just don’t notice or care to look or have decided they have enough to spend freely without any consideration of whether they can afford it.

Krauerking,

Same.

I’m now 15 hours in, my runs look nothing at all like my first ones, and are rapidly changing each new run but also still haven’t “beaten” it once.

Feels like I built a skyscraper and yet still have to get across the grand canyon to actually win and it has nothing to do with the skyscraper.

Except now I have foundation.

Krauerking,

Oh man the N64 graphics popularity seems to be really coming to a head.
I’m not against it but I want the joy of a spyro like game not the graphics.

Krauerking,

This feels like ByteDance going out of their way to paint the outgoing president and party as truly awful and give the victory to Trump in a week

Krauerking,

Bone’s Cafe is a slower non roguelite cafe game were you get to kill and cook your customers. It has been lots of fun.

Kingdom 2 Crowns is a great little game of frustration but it’s only 2 people but it’s pretty and the soundtrack slaps and it’s a fun settlement building and protection game.

Everyone is already recommending Hazelight Studio games but I will jump on that too cause they are amazing.

And just to shake things up:
The Lego games. They are classic and usually a good time. Campy humor. Murder your friends. And they are pretty cheap as the whole collections these days.

Edit: Oh and Ship of Fools was fun. Simple crowded bullet hell slapstick roguelite on a tiny ship with guns.

Krauerking,

Paper planet.

It’s a doodle game roguelite though I do wish it was still priced a bit lower. But hey if Peglin can be $13…

Krauerking,

Make sure to read the Tips in Bones Cafe if you pick it up. It felt like a lot of things clicked after that and it made my murders a little cleaner for the health inspector!

No tips for Kingdom 2 Crowns, really just hope you enjoy it. I sunk so many hours into that with others.

Krauerking,

How could you forget about your first and only friend Tom?

Krauerking,

Especially if we are going back only 14 years. So what did they work on, skyrim remasters or Fallout 4 remasters?

Krauerking,

That… Still doesn’t feel like a positive thing to mention.

Krauerking,

Nah I’m just ragging on the fact that Bethesda has released only like 2 new games in a decade and a half. And then updates of the old goodies like every year.

Its not about the developers it’s about how shitty Bethesda is.

Krauerking,

Nintendo also recently did the Pokenon sleep app which was about tracking your sleep and a bunch of wearables have been shouting they intend to get better about it too…

I don’t know if I want to know why suddenly data on People’s sleep patterns is so profitable but yeah no way am I inviting data tracking and biometric harvesting into my bed with me.

Krauerking,

Ahhh back when Nicalis ruled the world of indie games

Krauerking,

So I have seen this came come across my radar several times and knowing that I am not actually a huge fan of this type of game but really enjoyed Verlet Swing do you think you would still recommend this game on fun and vibes alone?

Krauerking,

Yeah never heard of it and seems like it fit the point of the post so I had to upvote it.

I would imagine that’s exactly the point.

Krauerking,

Oh verlet seing is a super indie darling but it’s got a strong vaporware synth vibe so I was wondering if it felt similar. But that’s still a glowibg review.
