They’re just going to roll people onto servers slowly to make sure they can handle the capacity. And it’s only on PlayStation because they fear the piracy that happened with fighting game betas in the past.
Its more that Arcsys just know how to make VERY varied fighting games in general. Like, Strive streamlined a lot (mostly for the better) but it is still one of the more technically complex fighting games out there. Sure you have some bog standard shotos and grapplers but a shocking number of characters don’t only play very differently but have completely batshit insane systems that other studios would build entire fighting games around.
French Bread (?) gets an honorable mention for getting a lot of those vibes with their Under Nite games but, because of the streamlined controls, most play as Shotos with an extra meter.
But yeah. When you are used to just going completely crazy to add a random character with some art you like, making new mechanics for a guest character isn’t a huge lift.
True! I get what you mean. To be fair, Lucy is also at least a “curious” choice; we can’t really say the same about SNK & Capcom basically exchanging their most famous fighters in a desperate hope of selling more to each other’s playerbase.
I’m a little sad about Under Night because I can’t fully get into the vibe of that game… which is weird, since I love the art direction of melty blood. Just something about those big chunky pixels animated at 60fps.
I’m actually not that excited about Skywind myself as base Morrowind already has such a lively modding scene that is impossible to migrate over. With OpenMW, Tamriel Rebuilt and Project Cyrodiil the game just keeps getting better and better with time. I fully acknowledge that this is a very subjective opinion but I also feel like Morrowind doesn’t translate over to a Skyrim-style gameplay nearly as well as Oblivion does. So much dialogue and random NPC banter will have to be cut out if they want to voice act every single NPC like they to plan to do.

Because Oblivion was arguably Skyrim-style gameplay already; not much to translate there.
If i recall correctly the Skywind team said on stream they have roughly 2-3 times the volume of written and spoken dialogue compared to edit: either Skyeim or Oblivion.
I agree though, I think there’s an argument to be made that Morrowind in its entirety is perfect as it is, but that’s why I’m looking forward to it even more than to Skyblivion. Really curious what they are cookin

Egrets from Skywind here. We’re really not cutting anything in that regard (or really in any respect). For lines that are very repetitive, we might reduce the number of NPCs that deliver those lines to avoid auditory fatigue and immersion issues, and some lines are being tweaked to avoid feeling too encyclopedic in their delivery, but our ultimate solution is just a ton of voice actors (hundreds, literally) and a lot of work to implement them all.
Thank you for your reply! One of my favourite aspects of Morrowind is how I can just walk up to a random NPC and ask them about a generic thing like directions to a place I have to get to, local services available, important NPCs or just their trade or a little secret or advice (and how those act as a soft tutorial with useful gameplay tips often being mentioned). If you actually plan to implement and voice most of these I bow before your ambitions!
The dialogue system isn’t identical, but we’ll absolutely be including those features as dialogue options. We recently cast the last few open roles, including major characters, so although VA is a bigger job than in any published TES game, we’re well on our way.
For me it was the other way around. With some very few exceptions I found the Skyrim quest boring and too afraid to do anything fantastic. Oblivion was way better in that regard, but lacking in dungeon diversity and action gameplay.
This also seems to be the general consensus among TES fans. Morrowind has the best roleplaying depth and potential, Oblivion has the best and most varied quests and Skyrim has the best level design and combat.
Have you played OG Oblivion? Are you okay with it? Then don’t buy the Remaster. It was okay, but it was still basically the original Oblivion in a slightly prettier wrapper.
Then as long as you're fine with the poor performance Oblivion remaster is excellent. It's Oblivion (almost) as you remember it, the main difference being the ability to sprint (which doesn't actually change) and fixed attribute points leveling (which I welcome because the original levelling system was stupid where you needed to level minor skills to get +5 bonuses for attributes).
Has the main series evolved in gameplay a bit? I have only played a Samurai Warriors on 3DS long ago, and the rest of my experience are licenced spin-offs.
Especially Age of Calamity which was by far the best I’ve played. Every character feels different, there are lots of options and specific counters depending on the enemy, environment, etc.
Oh ya. I remember Stephanie Sterling trying that one and it looked like empty, boring shit. IIRC it also had some previously unique characters being assigned a generic weapon. It’s the kind of stuff I already thought was lame on a smaller scale in both Fire Emblem Warriors, where most characters share like 6 movesets or so.
Origins was a great new step into the franchise. Battles flowed great, the weapon system was well done, a few boss fights were welcome changes of pace. Only downfalls were it had way too many cut scenes to develop a story line and the characters you know and love were out of reach, as you had to be the nameless main character (unless you had a companion).
Yeah. I go back and forth but I think Origins is exactly what the series needed… I just don’t know if I like it.
The big difference is that you aren’t really picking a side (until near the end). This works really well for the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the aftermath but gets increasingly awkward as the civil war grows and you are still friends with everyone. And it also means you can’t really do the different perspectives on the same battle as you might be rolling with Cao Cao on one run and Meng Huo on the next.
By having the viewpoint character they were able to actually tell a story. Otherwise it is the same dipping in and out of the Romance as every other DW because… the vast majority of what is interesting has nothing to do with the battlefield. By focusing on Ancient Chinese Forrest Gump it gives people a reference point other than “And then Zhuge Liang was rescued. Some time later he led an army against this castle to get revenge on his rescuers”.
I personally think Wo Long did a better job of “what if Romance Of The Three Kingdoms but also magic and demons and shit” but is also borderline incomprehensible unless you are at least aware of the major beats. Which… is better than “what if The Bakumatsu but we glaze the dude who set Imperial Japan on its path to horrific war crimes. Also Bisexual Icon Sakamoto Ryoma” but… yeah.
I thought about getting Origins but the fact that it didn’t have Co-op just killed me. If I can’t play Dynasty Warriors with a friend next to me then I don’t want to play it. That’s the point of the game to me.
