Setting appropriate expectations for one’s own work is one thing, but I’ll never understand why some people feel the need to deride others for exceeding them.
Because they don't want to be held to the new standard, obviously. They're comfortable and are preemptively taking offense at the idea of having to do more in the future. Like the normal kids who want to punch down the one overachiever who reminds the teacher to assign homework.
But this isn't a homework assignment; these are businesses competing for consumer dollars, and Larian is winning with their investment into a happy team and good product.
Maybe, probably stronger than a cat though. Most likely have commoner statblock.
I sometimes think about how many wimpy commoners fall to the might of my party. And then think about how I am a commoner in real life and would likely be just as wimpy. And then I push that though down and go back to my fantasy statblock of might.
I kind of always wanted an RPG of severely under-powered normal folks in over their heads who survive through luck, absurdity, and definitely not knowing what they’re doing or actually having the tools or knowledge to succeed. As in so inept that they aren’t even trying to save the day, it ends up being kind of an accident.
Earthbound sort of had this type of feel initially, but then quickly loses it. Another aspect of Earthbound I like is it being set in the modern world. Controlling a bunch of weird slackers in a shitty van barely escaping inexplicable lovecraftian horrors a la some sort of video game Scooby Doo sounds like fun. You can do things like drink beers to take the edge off, but you have to try not to get too drunk or you might not be able to drive the van to escape.
The Forgotten City definitely got it’s due last year. It was on an awful lot of people’s GOTY lists. Which was warranted, because it’s really really solid.
Been hearing about this game for years now, even played an early test build of it a year or two ago. Glad to see it’s shaping up, and glad to hear he has a small little team working on it now and is not just a solo developer. What he was doing on his own was impressive, but it still felt like a massively overambitious project for a solo dev, and when I played the previous test build I was left with the feeling that it was a lot of cool gun-related things in a neat setting in search for an actual game.
I’m glad to see the trailer include both some new stuff like seemingly emphasising the survival elements more with hunting and fishing and also developing the setting further and leaning into the post apocalypse thing. Not the most original concept, but at least it’s looking more like there is an idea of what the game wants to actually be now, gameplay wise.
The trailer left me confused. The artillery barrage, army helicopter shooting at you, etc… what type of game is this exactly? Are you a survivor in a zone, or soldier in a war?
Looks just like Horizon 5. :D But in Japan setting off course, which is very interesting to me. Its one of the few Microsoft IPs that do well in recent history.
I played through this series for the first time in the past couple of years, and I had no idea about this line, so I got to experience it fresh like everyone did in the early 00s. Absolutely amazing.
Meh, does anyone really care after The Witness? Braid was very much in the right place at the right time, but I’m skeptical of his ability to impress today.
The voice acting from the trailer was surprisingly good though - so much that it clashed with the video they were showing.
I’m with you on that one, but I do understand it’s very much a game to a specific taste. When people tell me actually they hate The Witness it’s like, “Well … yeah.”
I just enjoy it as a cozy, pleasant little puzzler with an interesting idea. I can appreciate Braid, too, but find it generally unpleasant to play and overwrought. It doesn’t do anything for me, but given when it was released in the early days of the indies I understand the impact it had.
JB is a talented dev/designer no doubt, but he just doesn’t stand out in the crowd of indies these days like he used to.
Interesting, I thought it seemed like it failed to make an impact and overall didn’t jive with people. Perhaps I’m just not the target audience for these anymore.
The Witness is amongst my favorite games of all time. However my first impression of this game is that it feels pretty generic but I’ll wait for more info before I make a final judgment.
Same, this doesn’t really look good to me yet. It’s just on my wishlist because it’s from the dude that made The Witness, so I’m hopeful it will have great puzzles.
I could never finish the Witness. It’s one of those first person perspective games that just gives me simulation sickness very quickly. Like I can play CoD multiplayer matches for hours but the Witness makes me sick within thirty minutes.
Not gonna lie, I’m not that big on shooters these days, but after HLL was free on epic I did have a bunch of fun with some friends playing it, intermittently getting into character, begging the squad medic to help me so I could go home to my darling Betsy. I don’t want to die like this, on some kraut battlefield an ocean away from her. Take care of Betsy for me
