This will be my first experience of Morrowind, the original is just way too old for me to try getting into now. I’m a Philistine, I know, but I need a modern UI and interface and UX and all that jazz. Skyrim is pretty old at this point too, but it still holds up in all the important ways. So, I shall wait for the release of Skywind! (Could probably have phrased that in a slightly less flatulent way…)
I played Morrowind back in the day and I completely agree, I couldn’t play it now, just don’t have the capacity. The journaling in that game of specific quests was pretty bad, as was the horrible leveling system.
Same reason Skyblivion is allowed to exist; they’re making all the assets from scratch. Usually, the issue developers have with in-engine remakes has little to do with the modification of the engine, but everything to do with the mod team basically stealing assets from a different game. In truth, there’s no difference between Skywind and your favorite Skyrim overhaul mod besides the scope and scale of what they’re trying to do.
Clarification: Skyblivion is making most of the assets from scratch, but requires users to own Oblivion in order to import some additional assets and the full voicework which is still coming from Oblivion. There’s an installer which checks for both.
BGS have shown us nothing but good will, we’re following their guidelines strictly on assets - i.e. nothing ported, everything remade from scratch - and we’re requiring both Morrowind and Skywind to be installed… but there’s no guarantee. We’re not stressed about it.
This is awesome! So many of these old cartoons do feel like they were a fever dream, for sure. Same with cartoons like Rocko’s Modern Life, Angry Beavers, Ren & Stimpy, etc.
As soon as you asked about what other cartoons were due for a revival, I immediately thought of Tekkaman Blade, too. I loved that show so much, even if it wasn’t the best.
I would also love to see a revival of Biker Mice from Mars, if it hasn’t been done recently.
Rocko’s Modern Life, Angry Beavers, Ren & Stimpy, etc.
That was a rabbit hole to fall down, unlocking so many childhood memories! For some reason, I thought those were all by Klasky Csupo, turns out I totally misremembered… 😅
May as well throw CatDog onto that list too, I sing the theme song to my daughter to make her laugh…
I kinda feel sorry for later generations, there really is no way that modern kids animation holds a candle to what we millennials got to experience.
When I was like 9 or 10 I thought our neighbor was at the door so I jumped out in my home made samurai pizza cats outfit, yelling "samurai pizza cats, they're so bad!", presuming that he was there to play samurai pizza cats.
Turned out to be a boy from my class at school collecting money for something. He proceeded to blackmail me, getting my lunch in exchange for keeping my dorkiness hush-hush.
I honestly have no idea who greenlit this or why; but given just how obscure the source is - I have hopes that it’s a passion project, and will be made with love and care.
Didn’t know about the NES game, thanks for the heads-up! It looks like it was only released in Japan and based on the original Kyatto Ninden Teyandee version, and not the deranged English dub.
Even calling the original series notionally relevant is probably a stretch, it wasn’t even renewed for a second season! 🤣 But I guess we have its general failure to thank for setting in the Rube Goldberg series of events which led to the absurd English dub?
Just someone else trying to utilize currently existing intellectual property to enhance their own portfolio for a job opportunity.
It’s the same shit that guy who is remaking Simpsons hit and run who never plans on releasing it
Edit: I clicked and he’s definitely doing it for ad revenue and sponsorship opportunities
Just like how ToastedShoes did a pokemon PalWorld mod (that he also didn’t release) but it got him viral attention to his channel from hundreds of gaming outlets
Honestly if he tried to publish it as is with Nintendo assets, he’d get sued into oblivion. Hopefully, he either puts up the basic framework sans the assets or perhaps it gets “stolen by hackers and put up as a torrent.”
As long as he does not make any money and it is not about a current gen game, its not as bad as you might think. He does not directly use assets from Nintendo, as everything is self created. The only thing in the way is, that he is using the IP (Intellectual Property) and names. But you know what, there are thousands of fan made games like that - ton of them even using assets directly ripped off Nintendo games, and they are not sued. People do this kind of thing since decades.
