Just minutes before it was set to deliver its financial results for the first half of its 2025-26 fiscal year, Ubisoft mashed the brakes on the whole thing, postponing the release of its results to an unspecified future date. The company also requested that European exchange Euronext halt trading of the company’s shares and...
I’ve been dreaming of this since the first steam controller released! I absolutely loved the first one but it definitely had it’s quirks and issues. This seems just like the upgrade that I wished for in every way possible with some nice additional stuff on top. I just hope it won’t be $100+
Nah, there’s a lot of text guides too. But the problem is that they’re often just copied from one source that somehow manages to get basic shit wrong every damn time. And videos definitely have their place, so many times I’ve first searched for a text guide and only got more confused. As long as the videos are short and to the point I always appreciate them. Found some great channels that way that have helped me through several games.
Planet crafter - Holy shit is that game janky, ugly, badly designed etc.
Conan Exiles - I did enjoy it for a while, but it quickly becamse such a chore since so little is explained so you spend so much time having to look things up, and even then it’s often not obvious what to do. I payed solo, and there is a point where doing that just feels impossible, I ended up wanting to cheat to do some things and that’s a point I never cross so I just stopped playing.
I really want to play some game like those; survival with base building, exploration etc, But I think I’ve exhausted the list of ones that are good enough for me. I’ve played Minecraft, Terraria, Star Bound, Enshrouded, Subnautica, Grounded, Valheim, Satisfactory, Factorio, The Forest and more that I’m not remembering right now. There are some that are in early access that I’m interested in but I’ve stopped playing EA games, I now always wait till full release.
If anyone has any suggestions I’d be very happy, I’m craving something to dive deep into. I’m only interested in Single player games through, at least ones that can be played as such.
I’m actually planning to put together a video review, so I’m in the process of organizing my thoughts. This thread is just a spur of the moment thing....
I don’t see what’s weird about it, if they are aware of it and possibly have other things that take priority what else could they say? They were just truthful and straight to the point. It’s extremely hard to handle all feedback and stuff from a community as solo/indie devs, it’s not easy on any level for that matter. If you took several seconds more and emotional effort to be super nice to every single person who interacts with your game we wouldn’t have any games releasing at all. It’s important to keep your responses to a minimum while also making it clear what the situation is. I think that was a good reply, not offensive at all and made you understand that they know and will fix it.
I haven’t felt such a hard punch of completely unexpected nostalgia before. Must be 20 years since the last time I saw this game, goddamn that feels weird. Both me and my little sister used to spend hours trying to beat each others highscores, she always won even though she very rarely played any games at all.
Why watch playthroughs at all? Just wait till the games are on sale. And only a year isn’t that long, wait more and get better deals with more complete games. There’s nothing saying you need to hurry in any way, and several things saying it’s a good idea to wait. There are more than enough games available for anyone to not have to constantly claw at the newest releases.
Yeah, I never finished that and didn’t even get the sequel because it felt like it was deliberately designed to waste time to pad out the game time. Hollowknight never feels like that even though it took me several tries to finish it and it made me mad because of how unbeatable some bosses felt.
for me mine are 1. Elden Ring, 2. RDR2 3. BOTW, all because they genuinely blew my mind when playing them for the first time and changed how I saw and played video games.
Portal 2 and Warframe. I’m not sure about a third, several contenders. And can’t really say which spot any are in, feels more like they share 1st.
Questions like this are always hard, it’s never a certain answer and it shifts over time, no matter if something new comes along to take a place or not. It’s as fluid as anything else.
The analogy makes a lot of sense to me. Once you have an "easy button", it's hard to not use it. It's sort of like when you're at work and see the "quick workaround" effectively become the standard process....
That’s not just Souls-likes though. And only Elden Ring is really open world in that way (I think, haven’t played much of any of them). What you’re meaning is that open world games aren’t for you, which is a lot more games than just Souls-likes.
I generally love open-world games, but really don’t like any of the Souls or Souls-like games. The whole thing of always being so focused on the enemy, having to time dodges and parries just isn’t how my brain works, and I lose interest and/or give up very quickly. I have no issue with hard games, but I feel a lot of people who love those kinds of games have some kind of masochistic trait that makes them keep exposing themselves to the shit those games drag you through. I don’t get super happy or feel like I’ve overcome something big with these kinds of challenges, it’s just “fucking fuck, it’s finally dead, I feel like shit and have used up all my consumables, that was not fun in any way. I need to go do something else because I almost had a panic attack from all this crap”. The story just ends up not mattering because there’s always this burden of forcing yourself to get past every millimetre of the game. I love really hard puzzles though, and stuff like platforming and so on, almost anything except that very Souls-specific soul crushing style.
This applies even when the game isn’t a technical disaster. All games have bugs, and many will not be found until they’re released to the public. And then most games have quirks that you as a player don’t agree are good things, and mostly there will be mods to fix those. So waiting is always a good idea, no matter the state of the game at launch.
Steam is having a Racing Fest sale until August 4th and I thought I might like to try. I used to play a lot of Gran Turismo 2 and 3 back in the day, especially the rally modes....
I would hope he finds it several years from now and it’s unrecoverable, just because that would be funny. But I don’t actually hope that as I have seen nothing that says he deserves that. It was already kinda sad when he started looking, now it’s just depressing.
Seriously? It’s been out for a few weeks, obviously there aren’t any. And since Nintendo spent a lot of time and money to shut down most original Switch emulators I doubt we’ll see S2 ones anytime soon. The increased S2 hardware power, also obviously, means you’d need a current or even future top-end PC to be able to handle the emulation.
Your comment is on the level of a 5-year-old asking if they can play Switch 2 on their phone or something. The answer is so incredibly obvious.
So did many of the other big AAA devs, then they changed. You’re not making any point at all. And don’t get me wrong, what Larian has done is amazing, and the response from the rest of the AAA game studios is both hilarious and depressing, but sadly not surprising. Most AAA studios got big by doing good, they wouldn’t have gotten that big otherwise. But then either new people came in an fucked them up or the ones already there got greedy and lost touch with reality, it’s the same with many other things.
You don’t need to get just new games. Do what a ton of people do: wait till they’re on sale. There is literally no hurry, wait till any game reaches the price point you think its worth. And then you get the best possible version of the game, both in terms of patches, most of the time with DLC included and the modding community has had time to make stuff (if that’s relevant).
And it’s an even better experience to emulate too, you get lots of options for the same or better performance, resolution, better than default graphics options, mods etc.
I’m a Borderlands fan, but it absolutely isn’t even in the same universe of quality as BG3. Borderlands is dumb, pretty shitty and lost quality with each game. It’s mindless fun, like B movie popcorn flicks.
They did steal artwork, but the whole aesthetic wasn’t stolen… the stuff they stole is a very small part of the game (I’m pretty sure, haven’t and won’t play it). I’m in no way defending them, but saying the whole aesthetic was stolen just because they used some text and icons from someone istället just dumb.
It seems to be MMO in a way I am interested, where you can basically play it solo and not be forced to play against or with other players. Kinda like Minecraft survival servers (with PvP optional), Rust, Once Human etc.
It's such an overcrowded genre isn't it? I mean it's ridiculous how many top down games there are out there... I've played so many now, they just blend into each other....

When people found out PhysX doesn’t work on the new Nvidia cards I saw several people here on Lemmy say that it doesn’t matter because almost no one plays older games. I seriously don’t understand how anyone could think that, it’s astoundingly stupid and ignorant.
How did you miss the important specificity of “kernel level”? No one is hating on “normal” anti-cheat, but kernel level is not acceptable, which is why just that has been the thing people have hated for several years.
Yep, and doing it in the coolest, funniest ways possible. And doing shit with the bodies like throwing them off high places, shoving them into fireplaces, and gleefully smashing their dead faces.
An unmentioned kinda out-of-the-box thing is Garry’s mod (gmod). Pretty sure there are downloadable models and/or skins for nazis, and you have a ton of tools for fucking them up in the most spectacular ways possible. There are mods for gibbing, better blood and bulletholes and stuff like that. Make Rube Goldberg machines ending in splattered nazis, strap them to rockets, build mediaeval torture devices etc. The fucking up nazi possibilities are endless!
So, Starfield was a disappointment (in my opinion). The story isn’t interesting. The lore and world-building do not make sense. The game mechanics do not mesh together. (And it doesn’t run well on the Steam Deck.)...
Starfield was much better than Outer Worlds IMO. I enjoyed my time with Starfield, it’s not perfect of course. I’ve tried to get through Outer Worlds three times but it’s just not fun, I also strongly dislike New Vegas. Just ok writing doesn’t make up for shitty gameplay.
Happy new year guys!😀 Just now, it hit midnight here, and it’s officially 2025. I was playing Pennon and Battle, and I realized it’s the last game I played in 2024!! That gave it a different kind of meaning. Now I’m curious, what was the last game you played in 2024?
Core Keeper, I’ve known about it for a while but never really looked into it, tried it out and it’s much better than I thought it’d be! Basically Terraria with a top down view, really fun.
I picked up Total War: WARHAMMER III and Pennon and Battle, both strategy games. I’m thinking of getting Baldur’s Gate 3 as well. This should keep me busy for a while. My holiday plan is to stay home and game! https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/ecf5697b-192e-4bcf-87ce-7f1dfec76993.png
