The Spas 12 isn’t exactly a practical choice in 2024 compared to other shotguns on the market. Still definitely a cool one though for anyone who likes any of the number of games and movies that featured it heavily like Jurassic Park or Half Life.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

The cost of a Spas 12 is astronomical compared to other new production tactical semi automatic shotguns. You can get a Mossberg 940 tac for around a grand. A Spas 12 will probably set you back more like four grand.

It’s definitely a cool gun, but not something I’d recommend someone go to for practical purposes. Others just do the same, or more, for less.

"Valve is being sued in the UK for $843 million for 'overcharging 14 million PC gamers and abusing its dominant position' with Steam" (www.pcgamer.com) angielski

Being the most favorable game market does not mean “there is no competition”. It’s just the competition is doing it wrong so everyone flocks to what they like or have stuck with.

From my understanding 30% was the industry standard rate for some time.

I’d argue Steam is probably the among the most competitive digital marketplaces. No games are sold above their MSRP, there are frequent deals that drastically cut the prices, and the UI is clear & comprehensive.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

To be fair it neither of the other games had much on launch content. I wouldn’t be surprised if they managed to turn it around.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

I really liked the dialogue system in the first game. Probably the best of it’s type. Hope they expand on it.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe it could be a benefit for asking questions to NPCs devs didn’t think you’d want to ask that. Like asking a city resident where the market is. Probably not today but perhaps one day.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Any one see any pictures arise from this yet? I played the game on launch then again half a year ago and don’t recall seeing any of these.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Contracting someone to use an artwork they made of your character would implicitly grant a license for them to make commercial profit off of that transaction.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Might be an unpopular take but the Red Dead Redemption 2 campaign. I’ve tried twice to start a second campaign but it’s so slow. The first time around the narrative carries it, so it doesn’t feel so slow. But knowing what happens next takes that away. The worst part is how ridged it is with mission failure/success conditions. It removes room for creative solutions.

This is not to say it wasn’t wonderful to play once. But it plays like they wanted to make a movie not a game.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve heard good things about the LAMY. Do you find it’s as practical for daily use as say a ballpoint?

Good gaming experiences with no HUD? angielski

I’m starting to find that HUDs in games clutter the screen and take away from being fully immersed in the game. I like games that force you to pay attention to what’s going on in the game and not numbers/markers on the edges of the display. What are some of your favorite games to play with no HUD? Here are a few of mine:...

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

I third this. It is an excellent no hud game because of all the diegetic elements, like the physical map or the filter time remaining being shown by your watch. Lots of games will have ui menus you have to go through. Metro doesn’t.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Payday 2 really sets the mood with it’s music

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

LIS holds a special place in my heart, it was the very first character focused game I played/actually paid attention to while playing. Really beautiful game.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Also maybe I’m the crazy one but did anyone want a coop vampire shooter? The base concept just feels like something no one asked for.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Hitman VR won the VR title despite being a bad port to the best of my knowledge. Because people without VR saw it as an option and said that sounds cool then picked it.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

I feel like Payday 2s sound track is underappreciated in general conversations about game music.

It has gotten a driving beat to it and instills both anxiety and courage. Not to mention how they have a system similar to the L4D2 Director system where the gameplay is perfectly matched and foreshadowed by the music.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Same but PC. I’m not a fan of exclusives, but considering how VR is still growing now is a very bad time to be dividing the community.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

It’s a good thing they’re ditching Paradox as a publisher because it doesn’t seem like they’re any good at publicizing.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe I’m off base, but does anyone really want a game about fighting vampires? Cyberpunk (the genre) is incredibly popular, vampire stuff seems to be pretty much relegated to the background in fantasy RPGs especially when compared to say zombie games.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Haven’t touched factorio but played Rimworld. If you value your time don’t buy rimworld, it is the most addictive game I’ve ever played. It’s a great game don’t get me wrong but I don’t think I’ve ever sat down and played it for less than 3 hrs. You just get sucked in like a void.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe they’ll make warzone no longer free to play but instead included in game pass as a means of recruiting more members.

What games can you recommend that didn't get the appreciation that they deserved? angielski

I’ve been recently been thinking about Arkane Studio’s Prey which is a immersive sim, with a pretty good rogue like dlc, that probably has one of the strongest hooks of any game I’ve played. If you liked Halflife, System Shock, or Deus Ex it’s definitely worth a play....

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

That’s one I did play, the only other Borderlands I finished was the second but I think it did a good job of keeping what made Borderlands Borderlands while going to a completely different genre.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Games of any time period are valid. The two reasons I made the post were:

  1. I was watching Nocllip’s documentary on the production of Prey & for a game that has possibly the best first 15 minutes of any game it got middling reviews & it really disappointing the devs that they work was overlooked. So I figured that perhaps some people here might enjoy it who had overlooked it or simply never heard of it.
  2. I thought it’d be a great spring board for everyone who has that one game they love that they can’t ever talk about.

I actually heard about that game for the first time the other day in a YouTube video on philosophical questions in video games that I had playing in the background while doing other things.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Really unfortunate they both came out around the same time. Although I think the actual target markets were different.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Visual novels absolutely count, their different format allows them to tell stories in unique ways. This post is for everyone who wants an opportunity to share the titles they never get to talk about.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks for pointing out the rogue typo, I use swipe texting on my phone so I occasionally get stuff wrong and I tend not to proof read as much as I aught to. Either way it’s fixed now.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

A lot of the games people have mentioned here are either obscure games I’ve never heard of or newer titles in niche communities. But Gun Point is an obscure game I have actually played, I think they could have picked a better name for it though for a game where most combat isn’t firearms based it’s slightly misleading and probably deterred some people.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

Major studios pander to current sentiment but don’t seek to resolve the issues. For example the cyberpunk genre is an indictment of many things including the reckless pursuit of technology and corporate super powers. Yet Cyberpunk 2077 with partner with Amazon Prime gaming and let the man leading Neurolink voice a character in their game.

That’s not to disparage 2077 just an acknowledgement of the reality of triple A game development. They’re making products most of the time rather than art. Their worms can still be enjoyable but rarely get to make scathing statements.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

From my perspective producing art can be pivotal in impacting change, good or bad by swaying public sentiment. I’m not claiming that they can pull out the old quill and ink and pen up some statues, but that voicing distaste is the first step in enacting change.

Voicing thought alone doesn’t impact change, but neither does enacting laws, you also require enforcement. But laws enforced without public support don’t last forever.

On the last paragraph I think we had a disconnect, I had assumed you said devs in reference to an entire studio. But it seems you were strictly speaking about the individual of that occupation in a larger studio.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

I haven’t played Stalker but I did finish Into the Radius which is heavily inspired by it.

Probably one of the best vr titles I’ve played. You really feel the isolation.

15 Underrated Indie Games (youtu.be) angielski

The AAA gaming space can often lack innovation, so people usually turn to small indie studios for something fresh. Whether it’s for unique gameplay design, beautiful aesthetics or satisfying combat, these 15 overlooked indie games stood out to me. This is my top 15 list of underrated, hidden indie gems for PC that I enjoy more...

Weird West is another indie game that it definitely worth a shot, even if you aren’t typically a fan of top down games it’s worth a shot.

I trust a steam monopoly long before I’d trust epic. Epic is run to meet the needs of share holders and valve is run to meet the needs of Gaben.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve used GoG once for a game that wasn’t on steam but I have done much more. Honestly I acknowledge that this ephemeral moment in time where PC gaming is kept in balance by Gaben can’t last. But I really think the lens we should look at PC landscape today is one of appreciation. If EA ran the game in steam’s shoes we wouldn’t get things like summer sales or games at reduced prices long after their launch.

Don’t be sad it will be gone be happy it happened.

FireTower,

I’ve put a few hours into Payday 3 so far, a shame it’s servers got the hug of death. It has one of the most developed stealth systems I’ve seen in any game. Core mechanics wise it’s definitely a worthy sequel to Payday 2.

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

We removed it way before the pricing change was announced because the views were so low, not because we didn’t want people to see it.

If they actually wanted people to see, it like alluded to here, surely removing it wouldn’t be the best way of achieving that.
