Honestly, GW2 is the kind of MMO I’d play on the deck if it was compatible with a controller. It has everything to make a great controller MMO… Except the controlller support.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

Same. I tried, but gave up pretty quick.

Hi everyone. This kind of content is allowed on c/games. If there is a lot of content about video-games, it isn’t the only kind of games we accept. Tabletop RPG, card games, etc. are all allowed, and browser games are too, as soon as there is no spam occurring.

Still, we’d appreciate a heads up before starting to post recurring contents (especially daily content) in order to prevent anything becoming too prevalent.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

And happy cake day

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

We welcome the effort, but it seem that some people reported your posts as being against community rules, which to my understanding is not the case.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, 100% a virus.

Sure, an offline game need to have full access to the internet, and must be allowed to read of write settings, right?

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

If only it was bigger… Honestly that the only bad thing I can say about the game, the rest is perfect.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

As stated my someone else, it is a fairly mid-sized game. The map is rather small, albeit with various vertical level that stays inaccessible until you catch specific monsters. But all of them lacks variety. You either get grassy plains, scarce forest, automnal forest, forest or water. Oh, and a mountain too. But once you’ve got accustomed to the grass/forest part, it gets boring quite fast. I’d really like to get a desert/sand biome, a rocky one, and the likes. And they even have the lore excuse to be lazy with the placement, they don’t even have to make it logical.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

Supergiant is probably the only studio I’d still buy an early access from, even day one. Even when I end up not liking it that much (like Pyre), it is interesting enough to be worth the asking price.

To this day, Hades is still my most played game on the Switch (I even managed to get a physical copy), and I will probably do the same with Hades II… Maybe on the Switch 2, who knows 😆.

My own experience with Asus warranty was of utter incompetence.

It was a long time ago, around 10 years or so, and I sent a newly acquired laptop for repairs because of constants BSOD. Waited a month before getting it back… Without sound. Turn out they forgot to reconnect the sound card. I sent it back for repair, waited another month (because even if they are at fault, they won’t even fast track that repair), only to get it back with a nonfunctional touchpad. I don’t use it, so I didn’t send it back a third time, because who know what would have come back damaged that time.

So their repair woes aren’t recent. When their stuff works, it works well, but pray that you won’t need to RMA it.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

That because the measurements used in web browser, “px”, doesn’t mean “screen pixels”.

According to the W3 website :

“The px unit is defined to be small but visible, and such that a horizontal 1px wide line can be displayed with sharp edges (no anti-aliasing). What is sharp, small and visible depends on the device and the way it is used: do you hold it close to your eyes, like a mobile phone, at arms length, like a computer monitor, or somewhere in between, like an e-book reader? The px is thus not defined as a constant length, but as something that depends on the type of device and its typical use.”

So a very high definition smartphone can be seen as being less than 800(px)x600(px), depending on its screen size and aspect ratio, while still being 4k or more.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

Because everyone (including most devs, myself included until some month ago) think that px = pixels, which is not.

When he says that the minimum is 800x600, it is most likely talking about px and not pixels.

That’s indeed how I view this rule as a mod. Self promotion is ok, “excessive” self promotion isn’t. I’m aware it is a bit vague, maybe we should explain it better on the sidebar to avoid unnecessary conflict. I’ll bring it up on the moderation Discord.

But to make it clearer, my opinion on the matter is that excessive self-promotion amount to the following cases :

  • Making multiple post about the same topic, multiples time is a shortish amount of time. Like posting once, then reposting the following day if your topic didn’t get as much traction as you’d have wished
  • Promoting things for monetary gains (sponsored links, etc.) without first disclosing it. As an example, I removed a service offering a backgammon online platform, by removing their first topic in order to make sure it was legit, which it seems to have been, not a ads/virus ridden website, which it wasn’t, and not paid, which it didn’t seem to be. As they happened to have made a new post in the meantime, I did not restore the first one, but did not remove the second one.

Of course that’s my opinion of the rules, the other mods may have a different opinion on the matter. I try my best to find a balance in my decisions.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

I have to agree. The choice is terrible.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

I know “Top X Games” is a kind of article we grew to hate due to how they often are just ripoffs, straight copy-paste from the latest AAA release Steam pages or press releases (and thus falling under Rule 4, no low-effort posts), but this don’t seem to be the case here.
The games are mostly new indie games, except Sea of Thieves, and some of them looks quite interesting to me.

The post is allowed for the time being, while we discuss about its fate on the mods Discord.

You could try the Flatpak version. At least your OS will be clean, and the only 32-bits parts will be inside the flatpak runtimes.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

After many years playing on the Flatpaked Steam, I’m yet to see any problem.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe not. Like every new format, Flatpak probably had some rough edges at first, and a software as complex as Steam must have been a nightmare to convert. It was probably broken at first, but it was probably enough for some to consider it as unredeemable.

Still out of context.

If this was a reply calling on someone baselessly criticizing the game, I’d allow it, but OP just posted an article that doesn’t even criticize the game.

Still, thank you for your edit.

I spent quite a lot of time on the Switch, just talking with random people and helping new players. It is a very special games. Found my first love in there too. 😇

A game I recently started playing is ToME or Tales of Maj'Eyal. It is a roguelike singleplayer game.

It has been around since 2010, but it goes all the way back if we count its predecessors. It is also an open-source game.

As of this post:

  • There are already 3 expansions.
  • The 4th expansion is set to enter beta testing soon.
  • The 5th expansion is already being developed in parallel.

Give it a try, available in Linux, Windows, and OSX. (Also available via Steam.)

Check the official website for screenshots, videos, and more information!

https://te4.org

A bit of history based on what I was able to find:

  • Originally named: Tales of Middle-Earth: The Fourth Age. Set 122 years after the fall of Sauron.
  • In 2010-11-21, the game setting was changed entirely into a new one. See: https://te4.org/news?page=27
  • Its predecessor was “Tales of Middle Earth”. See: https://www.t-o-m-e.net

He is on Mastodon, that’s how Federation works between Lemmy and Mastodon.

Star Citizen's first-person shooting is getting backpack-reloading, dynamic crosshairs, procedural recoil, and other improvements to 'bring the FPS combat to AAA standard' (www.pcgamer.com) angielski

Well, I mean, I would have launched it first (as an AAA game), but I’m no game developer. 🤷 And neither are they, from the looks of it. Good at perpetually raking in money for himself and his family, though!

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

I often buy physical for games I know I’ll like, for the rest, mostly digital.

When I end up liking a specific digitally bought game a lot, I try to buy a physical copy as an “archive” copy, in the case the store shuts down. An example would be Hades, which I bought digital, and ended up buying a switch physical copy from Limited Run Games.

In an ideal world, yes.
But unfortunately these days people prefer to follow blindly their bias and people validating said bias instead of investing the time required to investigate by their own mean, with least biased sources.
I’d blame social medias that make everything quasi instantaneous, but it is just a component of a whole, not the only cause.

The rules are the rules.
They were collectively written to keep conversation as non-toxic as possible. If you wish to change them, feel free to create a topic on the matter.
In the meantime, my work is to upheld them.

Looking for emotional game recommendations angielski

My favorite games are Omori, Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds. I cried for hours at the end of those games, and I think the common point in them is high-quality emotional writing and stellar OST (music really affect me) and my attachment to the characters....

Dremor, (edited )
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

My recommendation would be RiME and Spiritfarer, both managed to make me cry.
Spiritfarer talk quite a bit about death, sometime through diseases (cancer, demencia, etc.), but in a different way than To The Moon, and you may find it ok.
RiME topic is a bit different, but cannot be spoiled unless you want to diminish the impact. In my case I went blind and damn it hit me like a truck 😅.
On the stellar OST side you could try Gris. Pretty emotional too, but in a way more abstract way than the first two.
On the topic of war and its horrors you got Torn Away, as well as This War Of Mine, both very emotional journey.

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll also add Celeste to the list, amazing OST, lovable characters, but damn, it is hard ! But that’s because I play it at the default settings, you can change them all, even getting immortal if you just want to enjoy the story itself.

@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

Hi fellow Gamers Lemmings.

This thread was bought to our attention as possibly breaking rule 2 (No Bigotry/Harassement).

First, some context. The article comme from a right leaning website, with mixed factuality and medium credibility.
This means the content of this article shouldn’t be taken as is and should be complemented from other, more neutral/factual websites.

For now I didn’t find this story on any verifiable sources with such requirement.

On the other hand, the comments seem to be a lot more neutral than the OP link, and raise some interesting points. As such, I’ll keep this thread, but will keep it under close watch to keep the conversation civil.

Thank you for your understanding.

Dremor, c/games mod.

KotakuThe Washington Post

I won’t say that they are perfect, and are center-left leaning, but at least they enjoy a better credibility ratting than BiC.

I can’t say for Eurogamer, I have no data. Feel free to ask any reputable fact checking website for a check.

I’m only pointing that for potentials reader to know that the website isn’t known to be factual and do not have a very high credibility. I’d do the same for any left leaning website.

Dremor, (edited )
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

If MBFC would rate all right leaning media source as not factual/not trustworthy, yes, it would be a clear sign that it would be biased itself. But it doesn’t.

Example of right leaning media with good rating : mediabiasfactcheck.com/daily-signal/
Example of left leaning media with bad rating : mediabiasfactcheck.com/change-org/

My work here as a moderator is to give context. I won’t ask of our reader to believe or not the article, just to take the time to do their own research in order to complement the article, which may intentionally not show the whole story.
