Oh no, we’re getting to the point where PS2-era visuals are considered low-poly??

Oh I see - I don’t know why, but I assumed this was a new game.

Hytale, once touted as the Minecraft killer, is ceasing development (www.destructoid.com) angielski

After being in development for over 10 years, Hytale, a sandbox game from the Hypixel Studios team with support from Riot, has officially been cancelled. Hypixel Studios’ CEO, Noxy, announced the cancellation on X on June 23, with the official Hytale forums following suit.

Oh no, someone misspelt a brand name, whatever shall we do

As someone who loves the collectathon-style platformer… yeah, YL’s graphics should be the least of their concerns. I’ve been playing through Banjo-Kazooie recently and it’s SO much better.

Too wacky? Have you seen a James Bond film…?

DK64 has a certain charm to it. I think there’s a really good game in there, but it also tries to do WAYYY too much, and having to memorise all those Street Fighter button combos to pull off basic moves is hard work.

You forgot SteamOS: Blue Shift and SteamOS: Opposing Force. (The latter of which has a Windows theme)

I’d sooner spend it on a “AA” game than an AAA game, frankly

Dungeons of Dredmor! Just a really solid, straightforward roguelike with a ton of stuff and a cheeky sense of humour.

LunarLoony,

It’s a bad game for sure, but it is far from the worst game in history

need help finding a racing game angielski

I remember this game made before the 2010s… It had these crazy cars and wild tracks. You could switch between different vehicles, and everything had this bright, neon, RGB vibe. The tracks had loops, anti-gravity sections, and you could go super fast. It felt somewhat open-world, and you could smash into other cars.

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Kinda want to say Nitronic Rush, but there weren’t any other cars in that.

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Oh man, I hate that ““review”” format

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I have had many thoughts along the lines of “how can I fully optimise my cellar” and “dino eggs are worth more money than dino mayo” and it just sucks all the wonder out of the game

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Blacklight Retribution was pretty great. I played quite early in its lifespan, during an event which gave me a special nameplate - nothing more than a participation trophy, and at the time, loads of people used it.

Signed in a few years later to.play a few rounds, and some guy begged me to let them use my account because of that now-rare nameplate.

(I also had an extremely cool helmet and some seriously powerful guns I got for free in that game’s equivalent of a lootbox)

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

You mean Mars Effect?

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Civ 4 at least has an “Aggressive AI” setting, where all rival nations will be a bit more… well, aggressive and warmonger-y.

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I like Anno 2070, a game which takes place in a world where the sea levels have risen to a barely-sustainable level. But it’s okay, because you can repopulate with the power of solarpunk machinery!

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

X-COM 2 is fully playable with just the mouse.

If you’re looking for something a bit lighter, there’s The Enchanted Cave 2, a nice little roguelite with an interesting loot system.

From memory, Fallout and Fallout 2 are fully mouse-playable too.

Full title: Ubisoft says you “cannot complain” it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren’t “deceived” by the lack of an offline version “to access a decade-old, discontinued video game”...

They’re actually really nice, well-made X-COM lites. Great if you don’t want to immediately throw your kids to the Chryssalids.

Rabbids still kinda suck as a concept, but the games are good enough that I can look past it

@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Nah, we’re all actually talking about the PSX.

LunarLoony,

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a Masterpiece, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an Indulgence

I was a huge fan of Breath of the Wild when it came out and played the hell out of it. At a certain point, it felt like I hit the logical end point and there wasn’t much else to do. When I started playing Tears of the Kingdom, I got exactly what I wanted which was more Breath of the Wild. I’m still playing ToTK and really...

What are some old games that are hard to revisit, because a more modern and superior version exists? angielski

I tried playing Harvest Moon on the SNES today and having played Stardew Valley for hours, I thought I'd try and see how tolerable the original Harvest Moon was in comparison. I know and understand it is unfair because there's a 20 year gap between Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley, while also discrediting Harvest Moon's later...

LunarLoony,

I would love to experience X-COM UFO Defense, but the only X-COMs I’ve played to any extent are the two “modern” Firaxis games. Going back to the originals is a real effort, especially without having the manual to hand.

Hi there

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Think the oldest game I own that I haven’t yet played is Tomb Raider. Got it with my original PlayStation.

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

If you want to get technical, the first was arguably 3D Monster Maze, released in 1981. There was also Battlezone, again 1981 - though it’s debatable whether it counts as an FPS.

A more accurate answer would be id’s own Catacomb 3D, from 1991.

Wolf 3D definitely wasn’t the first by any stretch

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

How is Bastion on neither of these lists??

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Gonna be controversial and say Metroid Prime Hunters… mainly because that’s the one I’ve spent the most time with.

Zero Mission takes a close second, though.

Me and my friend continued our Halo Legendary Difficulty “project”. Now that Halo 2 is done, we’re making lightning speed on Halo 3. We’ve gone from almost half a year for the entirety of Halo 2, too 3 more levels left of Halo 3. I also just found out that Halo 3 has 4 player multiplayer, so i’ll have to recruit a few...

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Halo 3 is a lot of fun, and it’s got some brilliant setpieces, but in terms of plot it’s always felt a bit of a rush job.

Even so, I love it to bits and it occupied many memorable evenings between 2008-2010. Definitely a much easier Legendary experience than Halo 2.

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

When I did a legendary Combat Evolved solo run, there were one or two speedrunning strats I borrowed. Probably could do the same for H2 - one of the later levels, you can skip entirely if you do it right.

EA releases another shameless IP flip with Sims 1/2 Legacy angielski

EA has done it again. They just released Sims 1 and 2 Legacy Collection on Steam, and it’s nothing but a Shameless IP flip. Many players who are really passionate about old games have played Sims 1 and 2 and even Sims 3 on PC on Windows 11, even up to this day.
