I especially like that, despite the fact that you’re the supposed hero, every shot of your hand shows what appears to be a scaly monster’s hand. It makes you wonder who - or what - you really are…

A monster? Don’t be like that, bro.

there was a game made by sega a LONG time ago that had a realistic time progression. No one has ever beaten it and I think finding copies of that game is extremely difficult

as you can expect, making a hyper-realistic game didn’t work out so well. But now there’s lots of games with way too many “chores” RedDeadRedemption 2 has way too much stuff you need maintain.

One of the things that pisses me off about the elder scrolls games is the limit on how much loot you can carry.

Or in zelda breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom, there’s almost nothing but insanely fragile weapons that literally shatter into nothing when you hit something with it more than 4 times.

Entropywins,

I loathed the shattering weapons in the first hour of botw, but the next 80-100 hours, I learned to love it, and when totk came with the merge or whatever it’s called oh boy was I having fun.

Guitarfun,

I made fun of BotW when I first played it, but once I got into it I realized how great it is. You can’t kill all enemies you come across right away. Much like Elden Ring you make a mark on the map and come back when you’re stronger and you have better gear.

I got bored early on and traversed the whole map climbing each tower. In doing so I really fell in love with the style. I recommend everyone struggling with the game do the same. Open the map completely and explore. Later on it’s super easy to raid the castle for infinite end game gear.

PM_Your_Nudes_Please,

Yeah, the durability on every single weapon in BOTW/TOTK could have been quintupled and the game would have been better for it.

It was so bad that you couldn’t even kill a Lynel with their own weapon before the weapon broke. You had to abuse glitches just to make it through the fight with the same weapon they were using against you.

Stop playing this overrated repetitive game.

Yeah I mean obviously all these people must be wrong. It is a masterpiece whether you vibe with it or not but I just don’t see how it comes off as repetitive to someone.

uniquethrowagay,

World building and storytelling are top notch.
I personally found the gameplay a little lackluster here and there. Even on the hardest difficulty, I never really had to use potions for example. And looting never felt good to me, it feels very Diablo-esque in that you keep finding a sword that does +2 damage to your previous one. It rarely feels meaningful to loot anything.

Still an amazing game of course.

I feel like this happened with Sparking Zero, they actually had to skip parts of the story because

“Whoops, we didn’t have stages ready for the Universe 6/7 Tournament, King Kai Training, or Inside Buu segments, gotta skip it!”

The lack of stages in general pisses me off

CptEnder, do games w Currently downloading The Witcher 3 for the first time. Got any advice for me?

Are the games in book order or does it not matter?

Bahnd,

The games are a sequle, CDPR got the rights to make a game based on the IP in the early 2000s and just did their own thing.

W1 was a bit rough, plot wise it tried to incorporate a lot of the existing world but played the amnesia card so everyone had to explain shit to Geralt (and by extension the player).

W2 is a direct follow up to W1 and put CDPR on the world stage by being the high water mark for graphics requirements around 2010. Still a very good game, a bit on rails for modern standards, but still fantastic for how it handles branching paths.

W3 + DLC won all the awards in their respective release years for a reason, they are magnificent and with CDPR spending 15 years in the IP they make tons of call backs to the books without the players feeling like they are missing something if you didnt read them.

There are 2 (ok… 4) TV shows.

The netflix shows starring Henry Cavil, king of the nerds, (who is being recast by the least hot hemsworth because netlfix pissed off the books biggest fan) and what ever that second one was that we dont talk about (There is also an anime, which is pretty good) and the Hexer, a made-for-TV low budget show that loosly follows the plot of the early books, it in polish and I dont think it was ever dubbed (I managed to find it with subtitles years ago).

I know this is more than you asked for but, enjoy the games, enjoy the books, be aware of the fan opinions of the shows.

CptEnder,

No no this is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I’m the rare Witcher fan who’s read all the books, seen the shows (actually liked Season 1 Netflix despite changes, but now want the producers to never work again), but never played the games. I hadn’t played any because doing 2 games kinda felt like a task to play the one that’s so famous. I have W3 and def will play it now, especially cool to see the Wild Hunt in game. Thanks!!!

PraiseTheSoup, do games w Currently downloading The Witcher 3 for the first time. Got any advice for me?

Yeah, don’t get too hyped up. It’s really just a pretty average open world RPG. Playing Gwent is probably the best part, and even that isn’t nearly as good as Pazaak.

Mod the living shit out of it, if you are on PC. The vanilla gameplay is very outdated and boring at this point. There are mods that make crafting and gameplay much more challenging and interesting. The vanilla crafting system is absolute dogshit.

The story is incredible though. Characters are awesome.

Context: I like immersion and getting the most out of a game’s systems.

I see someone said the opposite, but I’d recommend playing the one difficulty above normal. If you don’t you’ll barely ever need to interact with some parts of the game like the alchemy system.

Also the game lets you heavily customize the interface. I personally hate being led around by a dotted line/arrow, so if you feel the same know you can turn all of that off.

Z3k3,

To add to this.

Don’t let yourself get overleveled for main quest line.

I played on normal and am the kind of person that plays main quest lines when there’s nothing else left to do in current part of the map

The result was the main quest line was very unsatisfying in terms of challenge due to being several levels too high

I like this one. It’s just a fun little game, nothing crazy, no hidden lore or hours of grinding. Just a little story telling for the season.

Because this is a South Korean game, I felt it was only right to play it in its original Korean language (with English subtitles, because I don’t speak much Korean). English dubs on Asian works just feels weird to me.

But I lived overseas for almost a decade, so I’m used to hearing foreign languages. It feels more authentic to me to hear something in its original language. I know a lot of Americans don’t like to hear foreign languages in their movies or games though (or read subtitles while watching something), so there is English in this game if you prefer.

I also turn on subtitles anywhere I can, because I have ADHD and my brain won’t focus on auditory signals. So being able to read while someone’s talking helps me to stay focused and in-tune with the conversation. It helps to provide context in some of these screenshots though, which is a bonus.
