Or how that compares to my dad selling my atari 2600 to make rent. I mean I get it, but I’d been looking for it for months, and when I asked him he’d sold it two days before.

Epicurus0319,

Or how that compares to my mom’s frustration when she got stuck on a really hard Donkey Kong Country level on the family switch’s retro emulator app and died a lot. (She’s really scary when angry, especially if it’s from playing difficult games)

I’m reliably informed by people who really hate Overwatch that thinking like this makes you a chump for capitalism who is ruining the industry.

Strangle,

Capitalism works. There are markets who will pay for these and that’s why they are made. That’s what capitalism is.

If not for capitalism, these games wouldn’t even exist.

Now, the issue I think you’re worried about is that people begrudgingly pay for the game when they don’t really want to. Or pay more than they want to for it.

That’s not capitalism, that’s FOMO.

People make a ton of shit everyday that I don’t buy. But obviously someone is out there paying for this shit, or it wouldn’t be being made.

What do I care, or what do you care about it enough to even address?

If people don’t buy it, it either gets cheaper or it’s not made at all. So just don’t buy it. I haven’t bought a sports game in 20 years because of this. But they keep making them and people keep complaining about them.

Complain about yourselves, it’s not capitalism, it’s the consumers.

@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

Uh, I thought I was being pretty clear that I wasn’t the crazed anticapitalist, but I guess Poe’s Law.

CaptainBasculin, (edited ) do games w My wacky Stanly Parable-inspored game called DO NOT PRESS THE BUTTON (To Delete The Multiverse) finally reached 5000+ wishlists today!

Just a tip as an indie dev. Some people could reach out to you to promote your games, defining themselves as curators, promoters and the sort. Check their history; abstain from handing multiple Steam keys for free. These keys could end up in third party markets (like g2a, kinguin) , reducing actual sales for your games. Check their legitimacy first.

Road_Warrior_10,

Thank you! Do you mean hear on Lemmy?

CaptainBasculin,

Not specifically on Lemmy, but basically any way you could be contacted as the developer of the game

This video explains it from the perspective of someone that found their keys given resold on other platforms:

Tread carefully with Unity, at any time they could decide again that you just pay them for each install, even past installs. Map looks classic though, I imagine fast paced arena shooter action taking place there.

ByteOnBikes,

This is actually what everyone in my city’s game dev community did.

Everyone moved out to either Godot or Unreal, or using a custom engine.

Take the plunge, you won’t die.

On a more serious note its really fun and easy. If you’re nervous watch a few YouTube videos or take one of those online courses at GameDev.tv that just shows you around and how it works.

KillGorack,
@KillGorack@lemmy.world avatar

I took it… its rough going… but the bones are there. It’s gonna be a while before something comes of it.

Until then it’s also available here beside the unity version both still miles from completion.

thanks for the push

Great! If its rough it means you’re learning! I’ll check it out. Dont forget. Those skills are transferable* so the next time Unity decides to back charge for every download you can jump ship without much worry. Just focus on the design, take what you can in abstract, and you’ll just keep getting better.

NPC: hey buddy I know you just killed the world ending dragon but my shoe string broke and it would be dangerous to for me to walk to the other side of town to get a replacement string. Can you go get me the string? If you do this for me I give you an item that you have an inventory full of that you won’t use because you are saving them all for a tougher fight, even after beating the secret ultra hard boss and the final boss but there might still be a need.

Me: hell yes I’ll get your shoe string on the other side of the world if I had to. Don’t worry about giving me any money I maxed that out hours ago and can’t find anything to spend it on. Sure I’ll take the item, you never know when you might land in a fight where a potion that heal 1% saves me. Sorry about not talking to you 100 hours ago your character model looked kind of plain so I didn’t think you would have quest for me.

IDontHavePantsOn,

Me: I’ll be back in 20 to 30 minutes.

Also me: I know it’s only been 48 seconds, but I’m back with 2 shoelaces because, ya know, just in case.

Vash63, do gaming w They're getting better though

This is outdated. Nowadays I’d take a From Software or Capcom game over most western devs UE4-based efforts.

Dagnet,

Elden ring doesn’t allow ultrawide, which I don’t complain too much since it isn’t that widespread, but instead of just forcing the wide-screen resolution, it renders the entire screen then puts black bars on the sides. It’s the worst of both worlds (and also means they literally have ultrawide support but choose not to let us use it). I’d say fromsoft has a long way to go (not to mention the stuttering).

mathematicalMagpie,

I hate the forced Chromatic Aberration. Photographers spend thousands of dollars on lenses to minimize the effect. Meanwhile, devs just slap it on games without any way to disable it without mods (which they’ll ban you for if you use them online).

Dagnet,

I like chromatic aberration but I totally get you, it should never be forced, just make it a simple toggle so everyone gets to be happy.

Imacat,

AC6 supports ultra wide and 120hz frame rates on pc. I didn’t see any stutters or notable issues in my playthrough. I’m hopeful that from soft’s next releases will have fine pc support.

Dagnet,

One can hope, they sure know how to make a good game, just need to fix things on the technical side

Vash63,

Sure, but every DX12 UE4 title outside of Gears of War is a compilation and traversal stuttery nightmare

LinyosT,

Eh, From Soft doesn’t have the best of track records for PC ports barring AC6 which is a massive improvement.

Vash63,

Other than the original Dark Souls port none of their games have been unplayable on PC. Tons of major UE4 games have had constant stuttering issues however.

LinyosT,

They might have been better than some, but their ports were still pretty sub par. Not really something to be used as an example of a good port. Their better ports like Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro were still pretty bare minimum for a port.

Cant talk about ac6 as Ive never played it.

Dark Souls PTDE was an absolute mess of a port.

The remaster was handled by an entirely different company.

Original launch DS2 suffered mostly from framerate related issues. Including weapon durability being severely affected.

Dark Souls 3 had no real AC and had massive problems with cheating during PVP. In fact I don’t think any of the games had a proper AC aside from a server side check on save files. Which did nothing against any form of cheating that didn’t affect the save file. Cheats that could for a time brick saves though some method I don’t recall.

Elden Ring had major stuttering issues for a considerable amount of time.

All games were found to have a severe RCE issue that lead to them being taken off line for an extended period. ER not affected as I don’t think it was released at the time.

All of them were pretty bare bones, not supporting UW without modding, not supporting arbitrary framerates. Other than original DS2 but that came with its own issues.

I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I liked the first 2 Grand Theft Auto games on PC better than the more well known ones… They were top down view and easier to just pick up and play. The graphics were more like a 16bit era game. They were simpler games that just felt more fun to me than the giant massive games that came out later. I tried a few of the later ones but it just made me miss the originals lol

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

You should try Chinatown Wars for DS/PSP. It has the same top-down camera but with more modern gameplay sensibilities. It’s probably my second favourite GTA after 3.

PraiseTheSoup,

I played them on PS1 but yeah, same. I can still hear the sound effects in my head. Killlllll frenzy!

PopShark,

The main theme song is awesome, it’s called Grand Theft Auto by Da Shootaz on streaming services. I had a PS1 disc version of the game from what I recall too which meant the song could be played by putting the game disc in a regular audio cd player.

Endermen are famously inspired by the creepy pasta Slenderman.

Markus Pearson has a lot of problems, but I haven’t seen anything to confirm that Endermen are born from racism. Everything mentioned in the image was just an unfortunate collection of coincidences.

(I’m researching this and found a funny comment about how Notch put Endermen in the game then immediately admitted that they were a horrible idea because their taking blocks disrupted normal gameplay.)
