Yet another DPS. And then a caster after this… Why can’t we have some more tanks and healers?

Carighan,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah that’s a bit confusing, too. And sure, Endwalker brought a Healer and Shadowbringers brought a Tank, but they both also brought DPS, and now it’s a DPS only expansion making queues worse again. They need to do 1-2 expansions of only adding a tank and a healer.

Zulu, (edited )

If you’re looking for the real logic behind it, its because the majority of the player base is dps. Every expac has to have a dps as a new class. Otherwise the majority of the player base wont have a new class to play for an expac.

Last expac was healer/dps, one before that tank/dps, and before that dps x2. Its cyclical. So we were “due” for another double dps expac. Obviously the devs and director are free to make whatever decision they want, but this is the logic yoshi/the devs have talked about on their quarterly chats. (To my understanding)

Edit: If you’re looking for sympathy though, yeah i feel it. I always want more tanks. Warrior has always been my favorite and none of the other tanks have tickled my fancy since.

RIPandTERROR,
@RIPandTERROR@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Frankly, gunbreaker should have been a melee casting dps, and samurai should have been a tank. I’ll die on this fucking hill.

Zulu,

I just want classes with big two handers. All of them being tanks sucks. Sam/drg are just a skinny 2h with big muscles. Drk dps rotation lets me sort of live my fantasy though i suppose

DPS are always coddled in MMOs. Unfortunately FFXIV is no different.

Triple moves seem like a good addition. I kind of wish there was more new content like new areas and things like that.

XbSuper,

I’m happy they stuck close to the original. I wouldn’t be interested if they added a bunch of new areas. The triple combo seems interesting, but even that is a bit off-putting for me. I really do just want the old game with better graphics.

If you don’t like pvp and you’ve finished the campaign, is there any reason to reinstall this?

PeterPoopshit,

If you’re ever stranded on a desert island, you have nothing but a computer and a bandwidth capped internet connection, download this game until your ISP comes after you and then you’ll be saved

GuStJaR,

😂

Hadriscus,

Bandwidth capped ? I too was around in the nineties 😅

PeterPoopshit,

Is this some kind of European joke I’m too American to understand? In the US the only way you’re getting internet service without a bandwidth cap is if you either pay a fortune for it or if you live so far out in the country they haven’t even invented bandwidth caps yet.

Hadriscus,

I was just reacting to your joke lol

I didn’t think a bandwidth cap was real. like, today ? there are bandwidth caps ? that’s mad. Is there no competition to fight this ?

Zion,

In my European country, there are no bandwidth caps for DSL or fibre connections. But if you’re not in a town (which most of us aren’t) and can only get internet via a 4g (or rarely 5g) connection, you have to live with a shitty 700GB cap, which is fucking ludicrous.

PeterPoopshit,

700 fucking gigabytes over 5g? That is fucking ludicrous. Around here you’re lucky to get a 7gb cap on a 5g plan but I think some people have cellular caps as high as 40gb.

Zion,

I was talking about broadband at home via a 4g/5g router, not on a phone. They offer plans specifically for people who want internet at home, but who can’t get DSL/fibre.

Phones usually have a lower cap, like 50>200GB. I get 50GB with my phone provider for instance.

Halo was my favorite series for a long while. Fell off of infinite quickly after beating the campaign so I should probably boot the multiplayer back up and see how it is now a couple years later.

Paradox,
@Paradox@lemdro.id avatar

Temper your expectations. It’s better than it was at launch, but it’s still fundamentally infinite.

I find it good for a few games, but any more than an hour of play and I just don’t want to play anymore. I’ll switch over to 5 or another game.

EvilMonkeySlayer, do gaming w Epic Launches Program to Pay Devs to Bring Old Games to Epic Games Store - IGN

Rather than paying devs for old or new games perhaps Epic could put that money into making their launcher/store good?

The Epic launcher is intensely slow, I've got a 13700k, 32GB RAM, RTX 4080, stupid fast nvme SSD etc. Everything on it should be instant, why does it take ages just to load my library? Why can I not select the library to display by default?

Why is the interface so slow and horrible? Where are all the features of its competitor steam?

Why after all these years has it not seen any real improvement at all?

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

Does Epic allow you to set your homepage to your library yet? Or does it still unnecessarily keep you to their store or some other useless page?

EvilMonkeySlayer,

Nope, it stills drops you straight to the store.

Finally.

They should have done this from day one. Instead of buying exclusives and ruining Bandcamp.

GreenMario, do gaming w Epic Launches Program to Pay Devs to Bring Old Games to Epic Games Store - IGN

I feel like EGS is a wash for anyone older than the elder Z generation. They might get the Fortnite kids to stick with em if said kids grow up and want to play anything else. Giving out free games is a way to solve the “all my games in one place” problem. If I started PC gaming 2 years ago on Fortnite and collected every free game I’d have about a hundred games in my library now., whereas I may not even have a Steam account.

The one true way to beat Steam would be to undercut them in price across the board but from what I hear Valve will ban your ass if you sell a game there for $70 but EGS at $50. (Full price, not on sale), so that’s not an option at all which leaves it to exclusives, which wouldn’t been as hated if Epic was publishing/funding them.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

I get the sense that people still won't take kindly to exclusives that they publish, which we'll see when Alan Wake 2 comes out. For me, they still don't answer the question of why I should shop with them instead of Steam if the same game is on both stores. There are answers to that question, but they think the problem is that we need to get all of our games on the same launcher.

GreenMario,

Fortunately there’s GOG Galaxy and Playnite that does a decent job consolidating all PC stores into one app.

conciselyverbose,

Of course we won't. It's too late.

The day they stole games that already had a steam page and had sold steam copies to be Epic exclusive, there was no path to any Epic exclusive for any reason ever being forgivable again.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

And yet the games on EGS are not cheaper, even if they are exclusive, taking the exclusivity deal and have less to pay to Epic Games. They still cost as much as on other platforms. So no, publishers would not sell the games for less, even if they could, even if it's a viable option. So exclusives does not solve this issue with pricing at all. The thing people "hate" is, that Epic forces exclusivity, taking the option to buy on their favorite platform/store, without giving the player anything in return. It's the same price. These deals incentives the publisher, not the player to sell/buy the games on the Epic Games store.

In example Epic does not even support Linux. Why would I pay money on their store then? On the other hand Valve actively developed and improves gaming on Linux; improving the situation against he Windows gaming monopoly. I would have supported Epic Games to build an alternative, but if the alternative they provide is like this, then I am not interested into it. I want to buy and play on Steam, because it is better. From my perspective, another game goes exclusive to Epic and I have to wait. If the game does not come to Steam, well, there is plenty other to buy and play for me. My money and time is limited anyway.

GreenMario,

What’s sad is Epic used to consider Linux a top tier support. My copy of Unreal Tournament 2004 has a tux logo on it and the Linux installer is on Disc 1. I never even played that game on Windows. Valve was very anti-Linux back then too.

Solution for Linux: look into Heroic Game Launcher. It’ll solve all your EGS Linux issues by not even using EGS client. It’s great I use it for GOG as well.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

I know about Heroic, but I refuse to support a company that is so much against Linux. They purchased Rocket League and took away the perfectly functioning Linux version back then (and made it unplayable for a while for me). Why would I pay Epic Games money, if they don't support Linux, while Valve actively pays developers to program and help the Linux world of sides?

I'm not interested into Heroic Game Launcher. It does not address the problems I have with Epic and does not support everything Steam has, when I purchase it on Epic Games.

resketreke,
@resketreke@kbin.social avatar

Just so you know, Heroic also supports GOG and Prime Gaming, you can still find some good use for it.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

In the past I have used Lutris for itch.io and Humble Bundle (and GOG), plus the additional games provided through Lutris scripts itself. So I would use Lutris over Heroic, as it supports itch.io and Humble and for the familiarity I already have with the software.

resketreke,
@resketreke@kbin.social avatar

For some reason Lutris gives me trouble when downloading GOG games quite often, so I was forced to look for alternatives and that's when I found about Heroic

MJBrune,

Yes, Valve requires price parity across platforms. Sales may or may not matter. The wording is vague enough that sales would in fact need to be paritied too but they don’t seem to go after people for it.

crossmr,

sales are supposed to matter. You aren't supposed to offer a bigger sale on another site than you will offer on steam in a reasonable time frame. Funny that never applied to the makers of the Witcher when they gave that away for free. I never saw valve force them to make it free on steam. What you'll find is a lot of steam's policies only apply to smaller indie devs, not big companies.

smeg, do gaming w Sony Confirms PS5 Slim for This Holiday Season

Completely trivial point, but a non-USAist I don’t think I’ll ever stop finding the phrase “the Holiday Season” weird. If you mean Christmas because you want people to buy it as a Christmas present, then just say Christmas! I guess it’s to be non-religious but I just find it funny to say “the holiday season” to mean winter when the season that everyone goes on holiday is summer.

Flip,
@Flip@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Where I live we have a bunch of small holidays in the spring. Winter only has the one big one. Spring seems more the season for them

Omegamanthethird,

In the US, there are multiple holidays people get together for. Halloween (to a lesser degree), Thanksgiving, Christmas (or Hanukkah), New Years. Extended families will often get together multiple times for these and then not see each other again until the next year. Thanksgiving really kicks off the retail season with black Friday, but there’s also a lot of time off during the winter time from school and work.

It really is a season with Christmas at the center of it. A lot of our “Christmas” songs don’t even mention Christmas. It’s just songs about winter.

smeg,

That much makes sense, but when it’s companies releasing products they hope will be bought as Christmas presents then it’s just odd to hear them skirting round the word “Christmas”. Unless you guys buy each other PS5s for new year?

blindsight,

It’s also somewhat inclusive of Lunar New Year and Diwali. More broadly, it’s a public recognition that not everyone celebrates Christmas to make it clear they’re accepting of diversity.

Maybe it’s the Canadian in me, but I don’t wish anyone a “Merry Christmas” unless maybe if I specifically know they celebrate Christmas; I almost always say “Happy Holidays!”

smeg,

Yeah it makes sense, just sounds odd. Maybe it’s because here in Britain Christmas is kind of a thing for everyone almost entirely independent of religion. Cultural differences and all that.

Omegamanthethird,

When I was a kid, it wasn’t entirely uncommon to get a big gift during a random holiday get-together.

But I think “holidays” is more of a generic retail term used to get people to buy more and feel less limited.

smeg,

I think it could also be cultural difference in the use of the word “holiday”. In Britain a holiday is what you’d call vacation, whereas our bank holidays are what you’d call public holidays. We don’t generally refer to Christmas and New Year as holidays, even though that’s when you take time off work, because you’re not “going on holiday”.

Omegamanthethird,

I had no idea. I think that pretty much explains the confusion then.

jalatani,

I think of it like there’s more than just Christmas being celebrated at the end of the year, so to include them all it’s easier to just say the holiday season

smeg,

Yeah I get it, it’s just one of those phrases that sounds weird to the non-American ear

mooseknee,

In a lot of countries (Northern Hemisphere) Summer is the holiday season, but that has never been my experience in the US. So it might not be as strange from that perspective.

scrubbles,
!deleted6348 avatar

It is courteous to other religions by not assuming everyone is Christian, and doesn’t hurt me at all, so why not?

smeg,

As I said in another reply, yeah it makes sense, just sounds odd. Maybe it’s because here in Britain Christmas is kind of a thing for everyone almost entirely independent of religion. Cultural differences and all that.

Ashtear, (edited ) do gaming w Sony Confirms PS5 Slim for This Holiday Season

So this is a de facto price increase? From a manufacturer that just reported a record high annual profit? 175GB (the slightly increased storage) hasn’t been worth $50 in years.

This generation sucks. I was already annoyed that we probably weren’t going to see price drops with this or the Switch, but I certainly didn’t see a price increase for an unproven hardware revision coming.

Omegamanthethird,

At least for the US, the price increase is just for digital version. And honestly, I’m certain the old digital had a profit margin hit in comparison to the disc drive version. It was probably worth it to lock people out of discs. This version will have a disc drive attachment option, so they’ve just given up on their all-digital endeavor.

Aside from that, $50 for 175 GB SSD isn’t a great value. The extra 175GB SSD is a significant increase. And for the disc version, that’s purely an upgrade.
