I only really ever got the urge to spend when I lost a 50/50 for a favorite limited banner character. I stopped playing and hopped to another game instead though, eheh

if I didn’t have to mod the fuck out of oblivion to make it playable without a spreadsheet, i’d be very mad at you.

Your all-time favorite game? Let's discuss the best options!

I feel like my “all-time favorite” changes depending on my mood, but if I had to pick just one, I’d probably go with The Witcher 3. That game just hit all the right notes—amazing story, incredible world-building, and so much stuff to do without feeling like pointless filler. Plus, the expansions were just as good, if not...

do you like sportsball, but think it needs level ups, perks, and gear? no? Me neither. I absolutely loved Pyre though. When a game dev takes a risk on a weird mashup like 3v3 basketball + Fantasy RPGs + visual novels, it’s an easy way to score points with me. What really cemented this as my favorite was the characters and the emergent interactions that develop as part of your decisions during the Rites. No spoilers, but the game asks you to make hard decisions at every turn of the wheel, and that particular kind of tension and release is very unique in my experience. It’s one of the few games I’ve 100%'d to see every permutation of events.

fuck yeah, lunacid. Newest of the fallen, take up your sword and fight.

Sometimes I’ll buy games on sale I have no intention to ever play. Y’know, because of the lingering guilt from the last time I played them but didn’t buy them

A remaster for the first two wouldn’t be enough, I figure. I played daggerfall unity and it just does not hold up. A full on remake would be interesting, but they’d have to go hard, and reconceptualize a lot.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Nah, they could just make it smaller instead of filling it with slop

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

The absolute shit mechanics had some kernels of gold though. I loved my Fortify Strength 100 Jump 100 spell and my 10 chaingun lightning amulets. Very few games let you do properly weird stuff with magic.

I honestly can’t remember, did morrowind have scaling? I remember hitting walls, but not ones that were because I was too high level.

Dwarf fortress. I am bad at juggling metal and fuel, but I got a set of bronze armor for my soldiers and steel shortswords for every dwarf

a few games i pirated earlier in the year, heh, and Pathologic 2, Lunacid (as of a few seconds ago), Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 (to check out the openrct2 mod), dwarf fortress, & Odallus the Dark Call.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

I’ve been playing a lot of ZZZ since I haven’t been on my computer for gaming all that much. Can’t recommend it if you can’t stomach gacha mechanics, the energy thing and weekly caps on endgame progression suck. I just enjoyed the main story and the character side stories enough to finish everything and grind up my roster to 50/60.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Wow, really? That shoots it way up on my backlog queue then, I’ve always wanted to play pathologic but 2 games are a bigger ask than just the 1.

I still think owlcat is nuts for adapting not one, but two full APs to video game form. Those are each six books worth of TTRPG adventure and those can take years to complete

CDDA: it’s basically an immersive sim with zombies and mutants in an ascii new england. Sprites optional;

Stardew valley: haha ancient fruit wine go brrr;

Morrowind: whiff. whiff. cliff racer screech. the sounds of a wood elf screaming from the heavens and splattering on the pavement;

An SNES emulator: there’s like an entire library to play here;

What are your favorite 1000+ hour games?

One thing I have struggled with lately is finding good games to play. I bounce around from game to game trying to enjoy it but it just doesn’t scratch the itch like it used to. For example, one of my favorites was old school RuneScape, but it hasn’t really been giving me the same enjoyment that it used to. So then I would...

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Huh, there’s only like, 4 of these games for me total. TF2’s still a bot-blighted hellscape as far as I know, my skyrim install is broken and the process of fixing it or just re-installing it will require a few days off, WoW is dead to me, and I don’t really play warframe any more… so I guess Warframe wins by doing absolutely nothing!

HipsterTenZero,

I’m pretty salty at nintendo for abandoning F-Zero in particular. I need more high speed bumpercars racing in my life

What game of the 2020s do you think that will top the "best games of the decade" lists in 2030? (fedia.io)

According to MetaCritic, Zelda: Breath of the Wild topped "best games of the 2010s" lists, appearing in 1st place in 17 of these lists. In 2030, what game of the 2020s decade will appear on the 1st place in most of these lists? (It should be noted that we are in the middle of the 2020s decade so this may change as new games get...

What's your favorite Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (or Tears of the Kingdom) clone?

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

genshin, wholly in spite of its fucked up gacha party system. If it was a normal 60 dollar game with less scope and without the gambling, I’d like it better than BotW.

HipsterTenZero, (edited )
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Through monstadt, it really does feel like a clone. Though as the game opens up, yeah it does carve out its own identity.

At the beginning before you get any good teammates, your party members are basically just the different BOTW weapons, and their skills are the different shieka slate tools. Kaeya’s your Cryo, Amber’s your Bombs, Noelle’s your hammers, and you need them to get to korok seed stand-ins. Domains are obvious parallels to shieka shrines, but they mostly get abandoned after the prologue chapter as anything other than gear grind spots. Even the grind of ascending characters and their weapons feels like doing great fairy fountain gear grinds.

edit: oh, and you climb and glide around to traverse the massive environment; it’s a surface level feature comparison, but worth mentioning.

The comparison does begin to fall apart when you find out that the meat and potatoes of genshin is the (mostly self contained) main storylines, and once you start unlocking character storylines, it becomes even further distinct. You’re not building up to reunite with your sibling by just picking a direction and exploring (or even just making a mad dash to the cryo nation), you’re sequentially building up and knockign down local threats, only occasionally getting glimpses of the main thread. And of course, the mobile game mechanics that permeate the whole thing after AR 30 or so really pull it further away.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

I actually only like random encounters when I’ve changed up either builds or party members and want to play around with it for a little bit. In that sense, I guess you could say I don’t like random encounters, but rather easily accessible encounters.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Waluigi and Samus.

What this says about me is that I’m a lanky crook who underneath the rough veneer is a clumsy weirdo with a hyperfixation on birds??? I guess that’s actually pretty accurate, though the slang is pretty archaic there.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

How is the bootleg ps5 controller market? I don’t have a ps5 myself but it seems like the obvious answer is to just buy the highest quality off-brand at the better price if you don’t want to pay more.

Is Elder Scrolls 6 doomed to fail? I can't see how it will work

After the massive blunder of Starfield, I cannot see how Elder scrolls 6 could possibly be successful. Everything points to the fact that they knew that the game was not even half finished, in my opinion, with major glaring issues, and they decided to just send it off anyway. The difference between this game and Oblivion is that...

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

If they don’t shit the bed somehow, I think TES6 will still be successful. Skyrim was pretty much just the video game equivalent of plain salted potato chips in retrospect. So long as they can at least meet that level of quality doing something they know, I think it’ll do fine. They don’t need to make a masterpiece or anything, modders will just be pleased to have a new prettier medium and a new map to loot plants from.

All of that said, uuurghhh, I have so little excitement for more elder scrolls slop. Bethesda seriously needs a total mixup in leadership and direction for me to get hopeful again.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

I picked up a Gamesir x2 recently and it really ticks all but one of the boxes for me. It’s a liiiiittle too big to carry around in a pocket, and a liiiittle too small if you’ve got bigger hands, but its still great at what it does.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Yeah I’m thinking the same. The X2 was my pick because I wanted something the size of a DS, but its just a little too big for that. I’ll be picking up a g8 to replace it later since it seems like a better fit for using around the house.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Well, maybe there’s some truth to that. my phone is basically a Switch when I slide it into a controller. The biggest problem it’s facing is the limited library of non-shitty games and storage space. Once I can store a terabyte on my phone and can link it up to my steam library, I don’t think I’d even consider buying a console again. To me, the only thing a playstation has over a steam deck is its exclusives.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Against my better judgement, i decided to look into Genshin Impact.

I’ve resolved to not spend any money on it, and I’m fairly happy with my experience so far. I’m currently in act 2 in Inazuma, and I’ve really been enjoying the Archon quests. Despite the fact that I spent 0 dollars on it, this part of the game really does feel like a full retail game experience.

The world quests are alright, though I’m honestly having trouble fitting them into my adventures; too much adventure experience is coming in, which is causing me to hit world level increases, which is causing me to need to grind ascension mats for my roster, which is causing too much adventure xp. It’s a lot! Dragonspine was a fun detour, though.

Story quests are probably my favorite feature in this game. Low stakes hang outs with the weirdos in your party is a fun and important part of RPGs. And Genshin really gets that. The only problem is… A lot of these weirdos aren’t in my party! If Story quests unlocked the characters at their conclusion, I’d have had no qualms with putting $60 down on this game, but they’re pretty much all locked behind the gacha mechanic which suuuucks. Shenhe and Diluc should be in my gang right now, but the funny gacha rocks disagree. Not a fan of that.

The resin and primogem stuff I feel really negatively about. I don’t want that stuff getting in the way of the fun parts, but I’m constantly scraping up against both. It’s not intrusive enough to dampen my experience while actually playing through the quests or exploring though, so I think I’ll put up with it until I’m satisfied with exploring Teyvat.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

“…and that you get the characters you want. may your pulls be blessed!”

Thanks, I could really use the bless. I have yet to get a fire character I like and can use. I’d take the bomb goblin in Jean’s basement at this rate.

Amber could not leave my party fast enough, and Xiangling is in the timeout corner from the time her rat refused to light the torches on dragonspine. I did get Thoma from the character event, but he absolutely refuses to be ascended past level 20.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

I think that’s Raiden Shogun & Kujou Sara on your profile? I juuuust met the latter on the Archon questline.

My ideal lineup would have a Greatsword, Bow, and 2x Tomes, with Anemo, Pyro, Dendro, and Hydro represented. I don’t really know the cast well enough to say who would go where. I’m currently rolling with Electro Aether, Collei, Sucrose (The MVP of my crew), and Barbie, though I’m really hopeful to sub out barbie soon, as her healing has been falling off.

I’d definitely fit Zhongli in if I somehow got him, as well as Razor and Jean. Rosaria showed up for like half a second in the story, and I’m all about that tired priestess vibe she’s got going on. Yomiya is cool, I’d have her in my team too.

Find yourself a Radio Control, a Smart Lamp, a Noisemaker, and a few radio activation mods. Mod the noisemaker to look for Green signals and use it to draw zombies away (or towards caltrops/nailboard traps you placed). Throw the smart lamp and activate it with Blue to act as a renewable flare you can turn off. You can mod ONE bomb/grenade at a time with red and explode dangerous enemies around corners with precision timing. Careful not to press red by accident though, it’s the default button when you activate the radio controls.

Speaking of nailboards/caltrops, those are my favorite weapon against unarmored zombies; they do not have any sense of self preservation, so they’ll just stomp the caltrops until they bleed out if they’re in a good spot or have an active noisemaker on them.

You can use permanent markers and pocket settings to make your inventory cleaner. I have an IFAK pouch attached to my backpack that I put a first aid kit in, which I can Open and Close to reduce menu clutter. Inside the first aid kit are ziploc baggies that whitelist one item each, all with maximum priority so that I can easily top off supplies between runs.

Molle storage is the best, be sure to remove all pockets from any zombo soldiers you defeat to grab specialized pockets for your gear.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

boo. Oh well, at least there’s that other sims-like in development i’m blanking on the name of.

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Yeah, that’s the one!

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Oh man.

I put way too much time into this game. I’ve never hit the post grandpa endgame stuff (because it wasn’t really there at the time) but I have hit the grandpa milestone on each farm type.

Weirdly enough, the farm always ends up being an ancient fruit brewery by the time I’m done. Speaking of, I’d better boot up my newest save and throw some of those fruits into the seed machine, that greenhouse won’t fill itself! Game’s alright.
