the supposed to be new one got cancelled. i forgot. budget reasons maybe.

It’s been a long time, but it’s supposed to be coming out this year.

jacksilver,

Thanks for this, I was confused cause I thought it was still being released.

leaky_shower_thought,

ohhh, good to know they didn’t stop development!

i had thought the project got shelved from that change in dev teams.

Nibodhika,

It is still being released but they had the designer/writer from the 1st one leading the writing team, but fired him due to “creative differences” so don’t expect anything similar.

Stamau123,

oh my god it’s going to be a disaster

can’t wait

Erro, do games w What's a cancelled game you really miss?

I loved Descent from back in the 90s…

dogslayeggs,

The original team remade it as a VR game with a new name in roughly 2017. I played a demo of it at PAX and felt like it was 1996 all over again.

dumblederp,
@dumblederp@aussie.zone avatar

It was re-released on Steam as “Overload”.

Mostly every Rare game.

  • Diddy Kong Pilot (the voxel version)
  • Dinosaur Planet
  • Donkey Kong Racing
  • Twelve Tales: Conker 64

I know 3/4 of these sort of got released, but the mode-7 style Banjo-Pilot is fundamentally not interesting to me, Star Fox Adventures is fine but was a lot more ambitious when it was on weaker hardware, and while Twelve Tales looked generic, Conker's Bad Fur Day is the least funny thing to ever attempt humor.

I didn't forget Donkey Kong: Coconut Crackers, I just don't mind missing out on that.

Guitar,

I really wish we had gotten a full release of Dinosaur Planet. Starfox Adventures is still pretty good, but it definitely lost a lot of unique ideas with the change. Not to mention, it probably affected Nintendo’s perception of Starfox as a whole. Mucked up a cool game and damaged a franchise with that one. And I say this as a fan of Adventures.

H1jAcK, do games w What's a cancelled game you really miss?

I wish StarCraft: Nova had happened

SnotFlickerman,

Also Starcraft: Ghost

H1jAcK,

Oh shit, that was the name. The character was Nova

mundane, do gaming w Why doesn't Steam support Android?

It’s a pain to get other app stores to get uptake on Android since Google refuses to let other app stores be distributed via Google Play. So if Steam starts to distribute games for Android, the Steam app would be thrown out from Google Play.

It’s the same reason why the F-droids user base is so small and will never reach the main public. As soon as your app store needs to be installed via a third party web site, you have lost.

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Sure, but Steam can leverage their already-massive 132M userbase, just like Epic has (only much bigger). Put an announcement on the Steam store and client pages. Show a pop-up when someone opens the website from an Android device, etc. I mean certainly they wouldn’t achieve the same level of success as Google who has their store installed on literally every Android device, but even a tiny fraction of their revenue would be an enormous boon to Steam.

So if Steam starts to distribute games for Android, the Steam app would be thrown out from Google Play.

That’s not how that works. They only throw it out if you use the app in the app store to distribute other apps. They don’t ban the entire company from distributing any software.

jarfil,

They don’t ban the entire company from distributing any software.

They can do whatever, it’s their store.

Keep in mind that Epic Games v. Google has made Google add features to allow alternative app stores on Android… which automatically removes the monopoly argument and lets Google ban anyone they want from the Google Play store.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

They can do whatever, it’s their store.

No. They can’t.

which…lets Google ban anyone they want from the Google Play store

No it didn’t.

jarfil,

Read the case, the whole thing started because Google banned Epic from the Play store, and the only reason for it to become a case, was the monopolistic position. That’s gone now, they’re free to refuse service to whoever they want, whenever they want, for no reason at all… and if you don’t agree, go sue them, they’ll show you the precedent followed by the door.

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I’m very familiar with the case.

and the only reason for it to become a case, was the monopolistic position.

The reason it became a case is because Epic violated the ToS (intentionally).

That’s gone now, they’re free to refuse service to whoever they want, whenever they want, for no reason at all…

…what is gone, exactly? You think this settlement suddenly made them no longer a monopoly? That’s not how that works. Further, companies that are not monopolies ALSO have to comply with their own ToS, so I’m honestly very confused about what you’re trying to say here.

jarfil,

what is gone, exactly?

By adding support for alternate stores, the monopoly argument is gone: everyone can build their own store now. Meaning, everyone with a store can kick out anyone else, and tell them to just build their own.

comply with their own ToS

…which they can change at any moment, but don’t really need to; most ToS include clauses about refusing service without having to explain why. If you ever agree to a ToS, better make sure they’re even supposed to notify you if they ever decide to cut you off.

Wow that defamation lawsuit against Karl Jobst is spicy. I’m pretty sure I saw that video a long long time ago. 350k is a giant fine, I wonder if YouTube pays that well. This is what you get for purposely misrepresenting something for a better story I guess.

Did not know about Dave the Diver releasing FOMO DLC, it’s been on my medium term wishlist, but I might just skip it. I have more then enough games to play.

It just doesn’t seem like that kind of game to do FOMO DLC.

Thanks for the update. Lots of interesting highlights.

PerfectDark,
@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

…and it’s the second time they’ve done this silly DLC which is limited (though, to be fair Godzilla wasn’t a paid one)

Keep your eye on it, I’d say on steep-steep discount it’s a fun game, but to me the opening of the game can’t ever be matched. It tries to be too many things instead of being great at just one

AmbientChaos,

It’s a really great game, just ignore the DLC. Super cozy and low stakes while still having some action

Commiunism, do gaming w Adult gamers of Lemmy how do you find time to game without being exhausted of the screen?

Sounds like you’re mentally drained after work to be honest. Nothing you can really do about it except play on some days only when you have the energy for it, or on the weekends.

Purchased My wife a RP5 for Christmas. I could see she’d always wanted to game, but was embarrassed that her controller skills were non existence.

3+ months in, and she’s a button maniac. Her farm in Stardew is insane, and she’s fighting monsters in the caves better than I do.

That little device created a private space for her, to get lost in the magical little world, and in the process has turned her into a gamer.

I never interfered. Only answered her queries when she asked, and let her go at her own pace.

Total game changer. I’m so proud of her.

Can’t wait to get her into some new games, but waiting for her to make the call. All in her own time.

cRazi_man,

I thought it would be perfect for the Mrs, but she’s refused saying she going to end up staying up way too late because she gets addicted to games 😆

The only thing you’ve got to be cautious about is localised save files of you haven’t set up something like syncthing for backup.

That’s the neat part. You don’t.

@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

I finally committed to Linux at the end of last year. Enough is working to make it preferable to Windows now. I’m still having a lot of bugs, and it’s costing quite some time. But at least my computer is mine again. No more telemetry, ads, and UIs that treat me like a toddler. No more updates forced onto me instead of being done whenever I want it.

FirstUser,

Me too. Most things just work for me BTW. Laptop battery went from 4 hours to 10+, with better performance too. But most important for me is privacy, which is way better/easier to manage in Linux.

Ironically my laptop, which has been Linux-only since 2015 or something, has finally stopped working properly. The dedicated GPU (NVIDIA Quadro K1100M) no longer has working drivers with the kernel from Ubuntu 24.04. Then again, it wouldn’t run windows 11 either probably.

Already switched to Nobara. Only have Windows dual boot because Space Engineers Multiplayer doesn’t seem to work on Linux.

Sabata11792,

Been perfectly happy with Nobara. Windows is dead to me and I’m free from my League addiction.

What does Bill Gates have to do with this, he hasn’t been directly involved in Microsoft in 17 years? He hasn’t even been on the board for 5 years.

My laptop still works perfectly well so if Microsoft don’t want to support it any more then I’ll bung Linux on it. I’ve already got my Mint stick ready, just need to get round to it.

JAWNEHBOY,

Nice! I was lucky to have extra drives when I switched to Linux on my PC, haven’t done it on a laptop yet. Do you just back up all your data to an external SSD/HD beforehand or go the partition route?

letsgo,

I wiped it after I left my last job so there’s next to nothing on it anyway now. They did give me a laptop but due to a stupid conflict between the AV and VPN one of the processor threads was maxed out causing the fan to run on full noise mode all the time.
