Why do they figure I never played one of my favourite games?

The wording of the complaints has me wondering if the game actually does anything “wrong” by the normal standards of video gaming. Like, does it actually glorify violence specifically against Jews? Is there some mission objective to butcher a bunch of civilians? I glance at the Steam page and it looks like the political statement its creator claims it is.

I’m pretty sick of this “anything that isn’t hardcore pro-Israel is antisemitic terrorism” horsecrap. Either care about human life or don’t, don’t BS me and everyone else like the acts and atrocities committed in video games suddenly matter when characters who happen to be (presumed) Jews are involved.

Thanks for the information. I really didn’t know about that attack and was on my way out at the time so I was more reacting to generalities and what was right in front of me.

I don’t mean to suggest that anything and everything should be socially acceptable as freeze peach, just that I feel some people are being disingenuous and should be expected to point out an actual problem like “Look here, the rewards you get vary based on the racial and religious background of every civilian you kill!” Killing civilians who happen to be present regardless of other matters is murder. Killing opposing military personnel regardless of other matters is battle. Killing people because they’re Jewish is murderous antisemitism. Not wanting something seen doesn’t make it a crime… but I think some people are so stuck picking sides that even mention that there’s another point of view offends them 🤷

That said, could be Hamas is pure evil for all I know and there’s just no way to present anything they do without it being disgusting. I just… bleh, maybe it’s an autism thing. There’s a nit there that I can’t help but pick 😅 I want more sincerity and sense in this world.

I see the matters as connected: I figure people who flip out about “antisemitism” at anything even mildly unfriendly to Israel are serving (deliberately or not) to defend, justify, or even glorify its vile actions. That is, I think it’s not “zomg those poor pixel Jews!” but rather “Shhh, don’t talk like people are fighting against the IDF for a reason! (Let’s just accept that they’re all horrible evil sub-humans who must to be exterminated for the good of our wonderful, beloved friends and allies!)”

I’m a weird critter and play things differently from most, I think 😅 My greatest fun tends to be alting hard, trying nearly every imaginable build. Beat up the same jerkwad thirty times just to try out all’ the toys, that kind of thing :3 I did get annoyed at having to wait for the map to open up but I replay beginnings so many times anyway… 🤷 I wanna go back to CP77 pretty badly, too 😅 Am stuck on a laptop that I can’t imagine running it playably but even just driving around was fun for me. Helped me through a rough patch a night or two, actually.

Also liked how well-done the story bits felt, though maybe that’s partly because I was told they’re really good and just expected them to be 🤷 I do remember some bits fondly, though.

Wow, so many posts 😵‍💫 Sooo I think I’ll be the one to mention Elder Scrolls Online ^.^ I’ve got 1800 hours in that and miss it pretty bad v.v Am stuck on a laptop that can’t run it (nor much else) playably :-\ Anyway, it’s got many things to do. Three faction storylines, lots of side stuff (everything can be played at any level; people will take low-level characters into Trials and not even worry about it), crafting, character build funs deeper and more interesting than they seem, just plain wandering around peekifying all’ the Elder Scrolls places… Idunno, it just somehow kept me of all critters hooked for quite a while, which is very odd. I tend to get bored of things realquick 😅

I only have 800 hours in it but I suppose I can second (or, well, nth) Warframe? 😅

All in all, this kind of in-fighting among leftist game developers is something that was actually parodied in Disco Elysium, making the situation all the more ironic.

The article’s author put politics into your video games news, not me. Not that I’m at all sorry: those who want to bury their heads in sand shouldn’t peek out and get upset at the world for still being present. I want out too but I’ve not got nearly enough privilege to pretend “this is fine” except for people talking about it.

My system (a laptop, all I’ve got 'cause I had to skitterflee from doomness v.v ) can’t run much so I’m kinda stuck at “playable” framerates on old games :-\ I kinda hate to admit it but I’ve been playing Borderlands 2 … the Linux version, 'cause the Windows version, which has a bunch of patches and mod support, just doesn’t run well enough for me 😭 Can’t even get any DLC, though I’ve been really wanting to try Gaige. May be too burnt out to enjoy it any more anyway.

Before that was Titan Quest, which just doesn’t really play like I wish it did. Played it a bunch anyway. Bleh.

So now I’m just sitting around trying to avoid losing my mind to boredom or despair. flailyskitters around in circles 😵‍💫

This article stinks of ignorance and bellendness. Complaining about “modern” or “new” terms is always a huge red flag to me, so now I have to wonder, for example, whether the The Bright Sword character referenced does in fact use she/her. Oh noes, the setting wouldn’t have this one word! It does, of course, have the entirety of any English dictionary other than that word, though. Just the one is icky, like all of those pronouns the woke crowd keep _shoving down our throats! But the woke crowd don’t exist in that world! The whole damn world is drastically different but this one conveniently common language is almost identical! Couldn’t have been that they say “are with” instead of “have,” noooo, it’s one coincidentally “political” word that’s gotta go. That’s the one critical difference in “a fantasy setting divorced entirely from the real world” where they’d suddenly not say things the same way we would!

Not a fan of someone who uses the r-slur and makes a show of not being “woke,” but I agree that that list is utterly ludicrous. Flagging something like it’s practically unplayable because you can if you search for them find a couple of same-sex characters in the ass end of nowhere holding hands is kinda mind-blowing.

Edit edit: Actually, no, fuck that. “Can’t make their own engines” is incredibly asinine. It takes huge amounts of effort to make a half-decent engine and even established studios are (CDPR??) or should be (Bethesda!) switching to engines built by organizations ostensibly dedicated to making engines and making them well. These bellends have created a kind of counter-productive elitism that was ridiculous decades ago, all to excuse their bigotry.

I’m taking this as an opportunity to illuminate issues with particular games, since… well, play on easy if you wanna, naturally. So, for my recommendation: If you don’t use the mod that makes all weapons very dangerous, Mass Effect Andromeda. Without a mod to speed it up a lot, every fight becomes ages of tedium. There’s one weapon that can be made any good and even that doesn’t make fights bearable. You’re basically sitting for like ten minutes at a time hosing down foes with off-brand Super Soakers until they get frustrated and leave. It’s quite bad. Just play it on easy. Not just easy, the easiest easy. Whatever the lowest difficulty is, pick that one. There’s just no point in anything higher unless you’ve got infinite patience. And ammo. Bleeegh.

So, generally I play things on easier difficulties when I feel like anything higher will get tedious rather than interesting. The Mass Effect trilogy, I play on the maximum difficulty because that adds a bunch of mechanics that give me more to work around. Fighting armoured enemies should be done differently from fights against shielded enemies, that sort of thing. Enemies become more dangerous when they’re not shut down so there’s that encouragement to get them figured out before they bring out the scary attacks. Some games just increase health amounts, which… okay, just shoot them more? 😴 Boring.

tl;dr: Games like Mass Effect Andromeda where difficulty settings only increase tedium. Am never gonna want to crank up the tedium setting.

Knights of the Old Republic 2 :3 I’m doing a blaster Jedi run. It’s pretty neat, actually :3 I think I’ll play the first game next. Kinda want to get back into City of Heroes if this laptop runs it well and maybe only if I can acquire at least one adventure-buddy-critter to play it with 🤔 🤷

There are mods for the first to make it more blaster-friendly! The impression I get is that blasters are much more effective in t he second game and are, it’s claimed (steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=16…), viable even for Hard playthroughs.

I’m playing on Normal; it’s mostly reasonably easy. Paying a bit more attention to keeping my defences in order would probably serve me well but I’ve not hit any walls or anything like that.

I was looking at “Deery clarified that the game will be pulled in the next 60 days.” and thought that meant the publisher had exclusive distribution rights and was choosing to destroy the thing. -Enabling imaginary CSAM involving no children to “flourish” (?) in their virtual houses

One of these things is most definitely a problem if true!

Also not quite convinced the full article doesn’t have other problems. It has a smell.

Okay, this article thing is like three million pages long; is there actually any child abuse content being thrown at people? Is there any way to see this stuff without being into it? I don’t understand how this is suddenly a problem now if it’s like, you’re walking around your virtual neighbourhood and BAM, CSAM in your face! Kinda seems like somebody would’ve noticed before now so I’m wondering if there’s some clarification I missed by not reading past the first couple of pages.

I don’t really have anything to add, though. Better access controls seems sensible; grooming and trafficking are claims easily and often made (maybe they shouldn’t be, hm!) and hopefully are just BS.

Ooo, I played the Sea of Stars demo! That game looks pretty neat :3 I think it felt like it had way more to it, a sort of deeper love and care for the game than I’d expected. Good mention ^.^

I’ve just started another playthrough of Mass Effect: Andromeda! Took ages to get the mod manager and EA’s app thing and Linux/Wine/??? all cooperating (or at least not fighting me effectively enough that I can’t play the game :P ) but off I’ve gone!

Hmmmm, what else lately. Battlefield V, apparently. Bit of PlanetSide 2. Started SIC-1 (the single instruction set computer programming game) but haven’t really been in a mood for it. Tried Stellaris again to see if Swayland changed the microstutters. It did not. Game looks horrifically complex now too, so meh. Tried again to find a new build that interested me in Path of Exile but no :-\ Uhhhhmmmm, touched Endless Space 2 a little, played some Helium Rain (which is free now! Very neat little space freelancer-to-empire kinda thing, like an itty bitty baby version of an X game). Almost went back to Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous which I love but an out-of-game sad and increasing memory-distance from my playthrough are making it harder to go back.

Oh, also logging into STO for the winter event and complaining about the Winter Wonderland. You’d think that being an ice princess I’d love the winter event but it’s awful. You know a winter event is bad when I strongly prefer the summer event! Totally backward, makes no sense! Rar rar rar, et cetera!

Anyway, this has been my latelish-gamesy ramble. I hope somecritter has enjoyed or at least I won’t get downvoted into Oblivion. Though at least if I do I can maybe meet some cool Daedra :3 (This post is being written directly after “waking up” (assuming I have, in fact, done so) and as such the thoughts represented within may or may not be my own, rational, intelligible, or representative of any official royal policy or belief)

Oh yeah, lots of them! So way back in ancient times we had… outer-planets.fandom.com/wiki/Planet_Packs 😅 The Ciro system is the one from the Galileo Planet Pack …kerbalspaceprogram.com/…/152136-ksp-1121-galileo… Aaand I loved it. There was a way to scale it up to RSS scale, which kinda trashed my system but I still tried to play it 😅

Smaller and simpler is definitely fun but I’ve got the bug where I always feel like I’m missing something if there aren’t as many mods as possible installed 😹 I assume there are still system replacers available now… but suddenly it occurs to me that maybe that’s stopped being a thing? Hard to imagine KSP losing an entire category of mods but I feel compelled to point out that I don’t actually know these state of it these days :-\

Isn’t that what sca- uhh, I mean super legit game devs normally do? Suddenly the scope was neeeever that big! You just think you remember all’ those claims that are still visible! No one actually said things you can prove they did!

I feel like this has happened numerous times already and somehow it surprises people every time. Like, there are channels on YouTube that only cover this sort of thing and have days of content.
