It feels like companies like this eventually become vehicles for like 5 people to make lots of money. You can't let go the guy making these mistakes - lining his pocket is the purpose of the company! It'd be ridiculous to fire him! Unless some of the other 4 people making money decide he's keeping them from lining their pockets.
No common folk is getting rich thanks to the stock market. Maybe richer if they’re lucky, but let’s not pretend it’s a tool for social mobility. It’s the opposite.
What incentive does a rich billionaire have for starting a business? Money? They have billions.
The only business they start are for themselves / the benefit of other businesses they own. Their wealth accumulates, and it is spent only to perpetuate its growth. It does not find its way into new businesses. It does not create new sector growth.
However, the people that want billions and don’t have it have a hell of an incentive to start a business and run it well.
I’m not saying it’s right, or fixes past evils…but can we stop pretending the modern US have been the only ones that have ever done evil shit? At this point it feels more like crying wolf for the sins of our fathers. Every country, every era has dirty laundry.
Okay, well, here’s a video game about that and you don’t have to play it if you don’t want. Heisting back your cultural heirlooms is a great premise I could get behind for any culture.
This isn’t dirty laundry, this is current events. This event happened last week.
If you are referring to the game, the article calls out the US and UK, but the game description itself just says western, which probably means several locations. But even if it is just the US and UK, who cares? The US and UK have a fuckton of dirty laundry that is still being aired out, and this South African dev has the right to address concerns with those two countries that have had direct harm to their culture
I’m so disappointed, but not at all surprised. I feel for them. :( Thank you for sharing this here. The game sounds awesome. I hope they’re successful with it and it gets really popular and helps educate people.
Sad to see. I didn’t love everything they produced but they still had winners. They kind if reintroduced me to the gang over at Dropout. I hope everyone lands in their feet, and it’d be nice to see some of then over at Dropout.
I thought they were more interesting than average, even when I disagreed with a take. The kind of site there should be a ton of, with varying takes for people to despise to a baffling degree. Sad to see it gone, or "gone" and turned intp a slop factory with known terrible working conditions for the people left.
Regardless of feelings about the people themselves, it's awful that they fired the union members probably deliberately at this point in the sale so they wouldn't have to go along with their contracts.
Having the gall to talk about social issues or the state of the industry as a whole rather than just being an “apolitical” hype machine.
It really sucks that Polygon is dead because they wrote some ridiculously fun and even thought provoking articles over the years. But, silver linings, it is an even bigger magnet for people to show their asses than ronnie radke.
