The Giant Club space program could now actually send you to space; but there are no giants 😔

Do they even use facial mocap? Fallout 4’s best facial animations were all reserved for Preston Garvey, and they are so not very smooth, I always assumed they were done by hand.

I remember it being a thing I didn’t use. It was like a voice chat/messenger thing with a built in game browser like GameSpy, right? I used TeamSpeak and some other tool mostly over xFire. I didn’t know anyone else who used xFire so it was kinda useless to me. A lot of communication apps in the late 90’s/early-mid 2000’s had that unfortunate downfall for me. No point in using something nobody I would talk to uses 🤷🏻‍♂️

Neverwinter Nights Hordes of the Underdark and Shadows of Undrentide were peak Bioware titles, IMO. The absolute pinnacle of their writing.

No grind? If you want to buy everything, you will need to grind. Doing the missions once doesn’t net you a lot of money, but you can replay missions to make more money. You also will probably miss the optional objectives that can unlock parts you can’t buy in the shop unless you replay the mission (or are playing with a guide).

I feel like I would have beat Balteus by now if I had the game on PC instead of PS5. Even with the auto lock aiming, this asshole moves around faster than I can turn the camera with a stick, even with the camera speed at 10.

Edit: Wait… Does the PS5 version support M&KB…? 🤔 I’ll have to try later when I have the chance.

!deleted6508 avatar

If I was able to beat Steel Battalion, I sure as shit can handle this. Even if the boss at the end of chapter 1 is a huge douche nozzle with his god damn wall of missiles and speedy movement for his ridiculous size and god damn shield that sometimes doesn’t even take damage when I chip away at it, or my guns won’t fire despite not being reloaded or overheated…

Well… Front Mission and Xenogears, while featuring giant mechs, are RPGs/tactical strategy games and not “mech games.”

“Mech” games are typically what AC is or more of a tank simulator, your tank just has 2 legs and arms.

Maybe he simply remembers Shareware differently.

I had at least 999 of them. Thank God for this patch.

Kolanaki,

You can do that in the PnP game. I better be able to do it in a computer game that uses the PnP rules!

I had a DM that wouldn’t let me use 2 Immovable Rods as monkey bars to cross a chasm.

I don’t play with that loser anymore.

Pfft… I really doubt Elder Scrolls 6 will even be in the same league as Dwarf Fortress; the ultimate fantasy world simulator that already exists.

Kolanaki,

If you look at BG3 as an open world game, I have to question what you think an open world actually is, because BG3 is not an open world game.

I agree the name means nothing. Which is why when people go gaga over Creation, I have to remind them it’s still GameBryo, but with more graphical features tacked on to it. The foundation of shit that is GameBryo is still at the heart of the tech driving their games. If Bethesda’s games were buildings, they all build them on a foundation of sand.

I also agree it’s not the reason why their games suck (their games in and of themselves tend to not suck), but it will be the reason why it performs like shit or has the same technical issues that have existed since they started using GameBryo. Unless even after all the time they’ve spent using the engine they still suck at using it, and that’s the reason they have so many problems.

The only other company and series of games I see having the same stuff holding back making better products because of the engine used is Bohemia with ARMA. They have just kept piling stuff on top of Virtual Battle System and all the problems stemming from VBS are present in the current iteration of the engine. Even the devs themselves hate it, but it would be way more work to make an entirely new engine.

You… Can control a single character?

Have you only played the Steam version? The non-steam build has Adventure mode, where you control just a single character in a turn-based roguelike. IDK why it wasn’t included with the Steam release, but it’s always been my favorite part of the game.

Neat!

!deleted6508 avatar

Probably not. I haven’t seen a single major AAA release on this console that was not $69.99 minimum. It’s the one reason I still buy games on my PC if they are cross platform even tho the PS5 is better spec wise; they’re usually $10 cheaper.

Edit: Well now I can’t say this because I am looking at Armored Core 6, which just came out, being only $59.99.

Kolanaki,

I played Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart recently because it was available free on PS+ and it is the most gorgeous game I have ever played in my life.

The graphical capabilities are astounding, the aesthetic is pleasing, and there is charm out the wazoo. You can’t look anywhere without seeing something interesting making use of all that fancy graphic tech. I kept it installed despite 100%ing it just to mess around with the photo mode.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I still laugh at the one-liners the PC gives after the boss fights. I fuckin’ loved that about the first one. You’re a silent protagonist, except during these random awkward moments after defeating a boss and then you just deliver the dumbest puns and jokes unexpectedly.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

A launcher has to add value, and not just launch shit. Most of these launchers do not add any value at all, they’re just another unnecessary layer between you and playing a game.

Kolanaki, (edited )
!deleted6508 avatar

Cross platform multiplayer isn’t held back by Steamworks. It’s held back, mostly, by Sony and Nintendo. You notice that PlayStation and Nintendo are the only platforms that regularly do not allow cross platform play. Even in games that do have cross platform play, Playstation usually only allows it with other consoles and not PC. Because Sony is fucking stupid.

I don’t even know wtf you mean by “cross launcher.” Every source of the game on a PC has always been able to connect with other players who got the game on different stores. IE Steam players can play with EGS players and Origin players just the same. If you just mean launching the game from one launcher rather than another… Steam lets you do this! You can add literally any fucking program to Steam and have the benefit of the overlay and even controller support when the game doesn’t have it native. Can’t say that about any of the rest of them.

Kolanaki, (edited )
!deleted6508 avatar

Not one Steamworks game is incompatible with an EGS/Origin/GOGGalaxy game or vice versa. You are pulling this shit straight out of your ass.

Denuvo security is now on Switch, including new tech to block PC Switch emulation (www.videogameschronicle.com) angielski

The first of the tools Denuvo is offering to Switch developers is Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection, a “revolutionary technology to protect games launching on Nintendo Switch from piracy”....

No one else is batshit insane enough to wanna warp their minds working with this garbage. She is already warped, so it doesn’t affect her. Much.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

That is quite a change from the original story. I’m surprised. I figured it would be more or less the same, but maybe flip the characters around or change inconsequential shit, as most reboots tend to do. It did make Raiden a champion now, instead of an actual God/Protector. So that’s weird.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Kinda figured it would be some bullshit when they were already taking a poll on whether people would be interested in another MGS getting the same treatment, only weeks after just announcing this collection. At least the sentiment was most “Hold your horses and finish this one first, then we’ll talk.”

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

It sure is. I recognize it as another gaming company that made one of the best Tron games that exists. As well as the Shadow of Mordor series and FEAR.

Kolanaki,

Star Fox has a secret level with a slot machine as a boss and the only way to beat it is to successfully get a jackpot. It’s as much of a gambling sim as this dude’s game is.

Kolanaki,

The only loot boxes in Borderlands are the actual boxes of loot you find in the game world playing the game like any other box of loot in an RPG. Unless there’s a new one I haven’t heard of that contains MTX loot boxes.

!deleted6508 avatar

It sounds like you have no fucking clue what you’re talking about. Have you ever actually played any of the Borderlands games? Or are you like @Detheroth and considering the event/pre-order exclusive codes needed to unlock golden keys as a lootbox, despite them not actually selling them for money? FFS, you can cheat to obtain these things by just copying your save file, since they’re stored locally on your profile.

If you had argued over the season pass shit, you’d have somewhat of a point, though not anything to do with gambling. But you decided to focus on lootboxes.

Kolanaki, (edited )
!deleted6508 avatar

You mean the event exclusive shit you don’t actually have to pay for (outside of attending the events/seeing social media posts/the few that come with a DLC pack)?

Per Gearbox’s official site for the game:

How do I get Golden Keys? Golden Keys can only be unlocked by redeeming SHiFT codes. You can get SHiFT codes from official Gearbox sponsored events and social media accounts.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

It’s because it will still fundamentally be the same game. All they are doing is bringing GO from the Source engine over to Source2.

It’s a significant engine upgrade to warrant the name change, but the mechanics will stay the same*.

^*or at least as in flux as they remain now with constant tweaks and adjustments they have always made^

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

So many I can’t even narrow down a specific one. Many new titles have tutorials that go over generic bullshit like how to move and aim and then don’t tell you how to do anything that’s actually unique to the game itself. I hate that shit.

Really hate having a tutorial objective of “put the goober in the jibjab” but then it doesn’t explain what the fuck either of those things are, and it’s not obvious by just looking at the situation.

Oh, The Ascent did this. Tells you to hack something early on; does not tell you how this is achieved. Everything up to that point was walk up to thing and press A/X. To hack you have to HOLD A/X. But it doesn’t say that. I had to look it up online. Which is stupid.

Dark Souls also. But… It’s hard to be mad at that one, since being vague is literally purposeful game design with those. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

It’s awful because it’s non-existent.

Fuck Hi-Rez for making a really good Tribes game and then abandoning it for Smite. I sure hope they merely licensed the name and don’t hold rights to the entire IP, cuz I want a good, modern Tribes game so bad.

Fuck them even more for this.

Kolanaki,

These are all things that have existed in all of their RPGs since Arena. These aren’t empty promises, but they’re also not something to be super hyped on.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Well, it will probably be broken.

Name one Bethesda Studios game that wasn’t broken at launch.

But fair points otherwise.

What is up with Baldur's Gate 3?

This is not a criticism - I love how much attention this game has been getting. I’m just not understanding why BG3 has been blowing up so much. It seems like BG3 is getting more attention than all of Larian’s previous games combined (and maybe all of Obsidian’s recent crpgs as well). Traditionally crpgs have not lit the...

Marketing. It generally being a good game and part of a beloved series, set in a beloved franchise (D&D). WOTC has been marketing and growing the Hells out of D&D lately. The recent movie and this game are part of that.

Kolanaki,

Morrowind similarly used this dialogue system, and I truly do like it a lot more than most others, even with a lot of options because it feels more like naturally discovering information and acting up on it, rather than just having a threshold on your stats, or completing quest triggers.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

The best systems I’ve seen so far are super new and janky because they use AI and you just actually fucking talk to them, and are also only in some niche indie games atm. It’s what I’ve always dreamed to be the future of dialogue systems in games since getting into RPGs way back in the 90’s. The systems themselves are perfect; but the AI still has a little ways to go.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

You don’t type. You use the mic and talk to them.

Kolanaki,

The fuss seems to be mostly just the Japanese developers getting butthurt that people in the west got bored of their simplistic combat systems and random encounters, and came up with a term to differentiate the games that, at the time were entirely developed in Japan, that fit this style.

It’s not the Japanese part that made them disliked more. It was the style of gameplay they offered. If you played one, you played them all, basically. They are barely RPGs, taking a more linear, choiceless approach to not only character creation, but dialogue options if even offered, are generally “yes/no” responses to questions that don’t have any real impact.

It took the big developers of these games way too long to actually listen to fans’ very valid criticisms and make changes to these systems, and they still very much keep so many more traditions that the term endures.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

The original is still my favorite. There are some awesome ROM hacks that provide competitive 2-player mode, while keeping the original rules, scoring and graphics.
