    DaCookeyMonsta,

If the people are enjoying it then it’s not a bad game, it’s a game you don’t like.

Which is fine, spend your money where you want to.

    fsxylo,

If you enjoy Todd Howard laughing at you then that’s fine. But at least admit you have a humiliation fetish.

    Crimfresh,

I imagine you must have a pretty sad life if you find yourself spending free time insulting people who enjoy something you don't like.

There must be some serious mental illness going on to spend time in threads about products you don't like. I don't like Ford vehicles, but I don't spend my time on Ford forums insulting them and their owners because I'm not a miserable loser with nothing to fill my time.

Go find something you enjoy. Nobody is interested in your pathetic trolling.

    fsxylo, (edited )

The only thing worse than corporate cock sucking is this constant insistence that only positive opinions should be shared. If I wrote a dystopic novel about that I’d be criticized for being too heavy handed. And since enshittification is directly the fault of people like you, I’ll piss on you all I’d like thanks.

    Nice

    Crimfresh,

It has nothing to do with agreement. It's the premise of spending time in a forum for a product you don't like, and insulting everyone else. That screams mental illness and a miserable life.

    WarmSoda, (edited )

Lots of people want the game to be better and are upset it is what it is.

    CaptainEffort,

People can like bad things. That’s why “guilty pleasures” exist.

For a long time I liked the Amazing Spider-man 2, but even then I could acknowledge that it was a terrible movie.

    WarmSoda,

Todd Howard has said ES 6 will be his last Elder Scrolls. That makes me really sad. I was hoping Starfield would be his last game.

I honestly think the only way ES6 could be good would be if the writers and environmental artists of Elder Scrolls Online are a huge part of it. The core Bethesda team has shown they can’t write for shit anymore. And please please can the animators.

    JasSmith,

I wonder if the utterly generic and inoffensive stories are intentional. People LOVE to be outraged today. They tried to boycott the latest Harry Potter game because they hate J. K. Rowling. Maybe Bethesda is just trying to stay as far away from the outrage as possible, and the result is… this. Maybe all the interesting stories get canned or neutered and turned into side quests.

    WarmSoda,

    Wat. No.
Bethesda has had a policy of streamlining thier games and making sure the player can win everything since Oblivion. They only “play it safe” to make sure the player never loses. That’s all it is.

    And it’s boring.

    MonkCanatella,

I think they were kinda in the right place at the right time and accidentally released some classics lol.

    (Video: Didn’t watch)

    d3Xt3r,

Unity Technologies, known for its Unity game engine, has been facing severe backlash for its recent decisions. Unity adjusted its fee structure, now charging game developers per install with retroactive terms of service changes. This move is expected to negatively impact numerous game projects. In addition, Unity removed their transparency GitHub repo and reversed previous community-centric commitments, leading to widespread industry anger. The CEO’s past decisions to maximize revenue raise eyebrows. Unity rejected a $20 billion acquisition offer from AppLovin in favor of a $4.4 billion merger with Iron Source, a mobile game development monetization company. Tomar Bar Ziv, CEO of Iron Source and a Unity board member, has notably sold around $20 million in Unity stock following the merger. Recent aggressive pricing models seem to mirror those adopted by Twitter and Reddit. Unity’s shift seems aimed at promoting Iron Source’s Level Play service and could significantly harm developers, especially in the mobile sector. Companies like Azur, Voodoo, and Century Games have retaliated by disabling Unity and Iron Source ad monetization. Unity’s recent closure of two offices due to threats from its own employee underscores the depth of its internal and external crises.

    Crayphish,

    ChrisLicht,

It’s vaguely fun schadenfreude if you follow the space closely.

    WMTYRO,

Just watched a video about FaZe Clan. Used to be a relatable gaming group mostly on Call of Duty during the early rise of online gaming content— some of the first to use capture cards to record gameplay and upload raw footage or cut compilations on YouTube. Far as I understand people liked them because they were relatable but as the money started flowing they became highly corporate and influencer-like, getting streamer houses and stuff like that, and so people started noting a disconnect and stopped caring. FaZe has been clawing to stay relevant for a years now so it’s kind of interesting to see where they’ll go from here.

    gk99,

Tbh the only reason I’ve got an ounce of care about FaZe is because their CSGO team is pretty cool. The “clan” itself is just this weird baggage that comes with the name.

greenskye, w EA confirms The Sims 5 will be free-to-play and co-exist alongside The Sims 4

I’ve basically never seen a free to play title cost less than a paid one (for similar content). Typically free to play has some sort of completely uncapped money-sink as well. Given that Sims 4 already costs $500+ for all content, I can only surmise that Sims 5 will cost thousands for the same amount of content.

    sugar_in_your_tea,

Yup, my wife has spent far more on Lost Ark than she ever spent on WoW…

Guntrigger, w Why Unity's New Install Fees Are Spurring Massive Backlash Among Game Developers - IGN

I forgot it was John Riccitiello at the helm of Unity these days. That explains a lot.

Also quite interesting that he’s offloaded ~$2mil worth if Unity shares in the past year too

Saledovil, w Why Unity's New Install Fees Are Spurring Massive Backlash Among Game Developers - IGN

I’m confused. I’ve never licensed a game engine, but I figure you’d write what charges you pay into the contract, and as far as I know, you can’t just add additional charges in later without renegotiating the contract. At least, you’d have no way to enforce those. So I’m sort of at a loss how this is even supposed to work.

    Mandarbmax,

The game engine is licensed as a subscription. When January 1st rolls around and the dev’s meed to renew their subscription it will have these new terms. Their options are to accept this or to never update their games again.

    Saledovil,

Makes sense. I hope the unity guys come to their senses. This whole thing seems rather self-destructive on the company’s part. Unity is far from being a monopoly, with one competitor being free and open source (Godot). And pulling stunts like these, even if you walk them back later, does not engender trust.

    Mandarbmax,

For sure. Proprietary software, and especially subscription licensed proprietary software, is a blight.

    BubblyMango,

Oh, but already completed games that dont want to make more updates dont need to pay this fee right?

    Mandarbmax,

As I understand it yes, that is correct.
