someguy7734206, w The modder behind Burps of Skyrim and Snores of Skyrim has made a breakthrough in the field of customizable flatulence with Farts of Skyrim

This is exactly the sort of headline I hoped to read in a gaming community.

raptir, w Red Dead Redemption Update 1.03 Quietly Adds 60fps

I wish they would bring this to PC.

CaptainEffort,

It’s like they want people to emulate it. I really don’t understand the decision

Zorque,

They don't want to dig into the spaghetti code to make it work.

And considering the lukewarm response to the shitty San Andreas port, they probably don't want to risk more bad publicity by farming it out to the lowest bidder... again.

echo64,

They already had to. How do you think the new versions were made?

sugar_in_your_tea,

They have two options when it comes to a port:

  • do it right
  • pay someone to do it quickly

They have consistently done the second, which makes absolutely no sense to me since doing it right would mean they could bring great old games to a new audience. All they need to do is increase framerate caps (and fix bugs caused by that), increase render resolution, and improve texture quality. They should have all of the original files, so this shouldn’t require a ton of effort, even if the code is a mess.

GTA SA and friends was terrible because it didn’t look anything like the originals since it was a mobile port. Nobody asked for big changes, just a few QOO updates. The same is true for RDR, we just want to play it on PC with higher FPS and whatnot, we don’t expect anything groundbreaking. If it’s easier, they could port the campaign to RDR2 (they already have a lot of the models) and then not have to maintain the older codebase. Surely that’s an option too.

Davel23,

They want people to buy the console release now, then buy it again when they announce the PC version in a year.

ThunderingJerboa,
@ThunderingJerboa@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, have no clue why people don't think they are just doing this. They literally did this with RDR 2. Like we aren't in the days of the 360 and PS3 where consoles were very weird architecturally. Things have been mostly smoothed out and porting while can be quite a task especially if you want to do it right (however Rockstar hasn't done great with doing it right) but its far more trivial compared to the past.

Davel23,

They did it with GTA 4 and 5 as well.

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

The code was lost as far as I am aware.

Habahnow, w Five Former Ubisoft Execs Arrested By Police For Questioning About Sexual Misconduct Allegations

IDK why i thought in France, this type of behavior would be looked down upon a lot more than in the US. With that in mind, I’m surprised with what these people are accused with. Hope these guys get what they deserve (which doesn’t look good for them).

FracturedEel,

Are they based in France? I thought it was Montreal

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

Ubisoft Entertainment is based in France. They have lots of smaller studios across the globle.

Ubisoft Montreal is one of those developers.

It’s Ubisoft, who would be surprised? Pirates get a better experience than paying customers and it’s been that way for over a decade

For me this is a hard toss up between Pizza King too and the Submachine series, the Submachine series is an amazing escape/puzzle style series that has a really good story

and Pizza King 2 is the best management style Pizzeria Simulator game that I have found to date, many of those management style games focus more on the cooking aspect than the management aspect but this one takes the cake with being an actual management Sim instead of a cooking

The blockchain does not contain the assets he is talking about. it is just a ledger saying who owns the assets.

If the place the blockchain ledger points to no longer exists, the ledger is useless.

Same with NFT's, they are digital receipts that point to a web address, If the web address closes down, the NFT is useless.

Not sure you understand what you are talking about there bubs.

    LillyPip,

I get how the blockchain works.

I was responding specifically to the end of your comment:

What happens if/when the servers your business is located on are switched off?

I probably should have quoted you.

Eh? That’s not how a block chain works.

    dependencyInjection,

    Gotta admire the misplaced condescension.

    explodicle,

If they use the blockchain as designed, there will be no central server to switch off - it’s just running in a bunch of basements. They rarely do, though.

    Pons_Aelius,

The person who stated this a while ago deleted their comment so the reply may not have made sense:

Same with NFT's, they are digital receipts that point to a web address, If the web address closes down, the NFT is useless.

    For a real world analogy.

A deed (blockchain ledger) proves you own a house (digital asset stored on the game server). If the house burns down (game server is switched off), the deed still exists but it is useless as the asset it describes no longer does.

    explodicle,

An NFT doesn’t need to point to a web address - the ape picture can be stored on the blockchain too.

So on the case of a game, everyone can be running their own server, using a blockchain to keep the shared world in sync. There’s no physical product to begin with.

Well hell, while we’re all wishing, let’s just throw in a request for a Fallout New Vegas remaster. I would pay uncountable money for a version that I didn’t have to mod like crazy to make functional. Not holding my breath though.

StarkillerX42, w Valve Hires Creator Behind Popular ‘Half-Life: Alyx’ Mod

Valve has to buy up all the modders because they can’t afford to have them making mods that fix CS2 that end up killing the player base on the main game.
