a lot of people suffers from motion sickness, and that totally ruins the experience
most of the software is unispired shit or just bad games. I’ve tried a parkour game for example (don’t remember the name) and it was absolutely crap, it was impossible to do what you wanted, because controls just didn’t work how they should
It seems like it’s sticking around this time, but will take a few more gens to become a mainstream product with appeal to people beyond tech nerds.
The problem with previous vr is that the compent parts weren’t ready to combine into a good experience. Computers couldn’t produce realistic enough graphics at the 90+FPS needed for smooth gameplay, screens didn’t have the resolution and colour depth to recreate the real world, the processing units made the headsets huge and bulky.
This time it started at a decent base experience and has been getting better since, a few more gens for it to become easy and quick to use and it will pick right up.
I mean, the VR hype from a few years ago has mostly tapered off. Meta clinged onto it for quite a while with their Metaverse idea, but even they seem to have given up on it earlier this year, as LLMs stole the last bit of spotlight they had.
And the PS VR 2 launched earlier this year, too, was generally well-regarded from a hardware viewpoint, but the lack of hype means there’s still not terribly many games being released for it.
It also is an expensive investment and people aren’t exactly flush with money, thanks to inflation + countermeasures. So, if there is a chance, they buy this headset and no games get released for it, many people will hold off on that.
I think we’re still YEARS away from this tech taking off. It’s too expensive, it’s too bulky, and it’s not powerful enough.
I think the Apple Vision headset will be the first meaningful step forward since the CV1, and even that is just one step on a journey that could take another decade.
Personally, I have no trouble believing that. Thing is, these companies’ investors don’t really benefit from long-term plans. So, if it does not pay out in the next two or so years, I expect them to scrap that endeavour altogether.
I just find it weird that Apple decided to jump on that train now, but it’s also possible that they started development at the peak of the hype and finished only just now.
If you look at all the useless AR features that Apple has pushed into iOS over the years, you can tell that they've already been working toward this for at least a decade. They aren't giving up on it any time soon... they're playing the long game. Wearables are inevitable, and they want to be way ahead of the curve.
Yet another reason to avoid Activision Blizzard. It’s amazing to me how their corrupt and broken internal culture is apparently widespread throughout the company and their subsidiarys, and no one stopped to be like, “hol’ up, we can’t act like this” while the culture was taking form. So now you end up with people like the article trying to fight against it and getting doors shut in their face.
Also, it should be pretty easy to prove whether or not she resigned voluntarily. The resignation form would either be missing her signature or have a forged signature. Dunno what Activision Blizzard is doing trying to claim she resigned voluntarily.
Edit: I thought Bungie was still owned by Activision.
I had an employer try this on me too. I beat the claim in court by pointing out that people who quit don’t tend to bother showing up on time and ready to work at their next shift. Judge agreed with me. Shortly after I was offered about 80% of my claim as a settlement with the understanding that the taxes on the settlement would be paid by the company. Pretty good deal when I didn’t even have a lawyer ngl
I mean yeah ABK has toxic culture, but Bungie has been with Sony for over a year now (Aug 2022), and Alm was hired just few 2 months before Sony acquisition and the issues followed up until September with false termination.
SEGA spent the most money ever… on a game that was years late to an old sub-genre, while mimicking games that had already failed like Lawbreakers. Great job.
Urban Dead was fun back when I played it. Used to be on the forums a lot and organize curing centres or safe zones.
Dominate Game. Great online risk game with elo system. You could play the default maps in the browser but thier client let you play tons of customer player made maps. Sadly this one got taken down a long time ago, is has a spiritual successor as Dominate 12.
Supremacy 1914. Only played 2 matches of this game, but do to its nature it was over the course of 6 months or so. I believe they have a download client now and the game is also on Steam now.
seriously, you’d think with the holiday season coming up studios would be crunching to get their games ready in time, but since unity shit the bed and epic took their lead it’s been nothing but bad news in the AA and AAA space
What’s wrong with what I wrote? A football simulation that’s trying to accurately reflect players’ skills for men, gives an unrealistically boosted skills to women players. Why?
Because what does it even matter? We should be encouraging women’s football to continue to grow, part of that is making sure it’s fun to play in games as well as competitive on the pitch.
It’s come so far in recent years, and when we’re talking about a game which is designed primarily for fun, being unhappy that women’s stats aren’t an apples and apples comparison to the men’s stats is just silly.
It says that you have an issue with the women’s game being treated in the same way as the men’s game. Video games are designed for fun, not for simulation, and there are plenty of good reasons to have women be comparable with men in a computer game.
You’d have been upset when Tony hawk games had women skaters that could ollie as high as the men too huh? Or got upset when Chun Li won in street fighter games?
You’re stating your subjective opinions about topics unrelated to the game and comparing a simulation game to some unrelated arcade games.
It says that you have an issue with the women’s game being treated in the same way as the men’s game.
This is the exact opposite of what I’m saying. Men’s stats have been reflected with due diligence while women’s stats have been artificially upscaled - how is that being treated the same way?
If a core system of the game “doesn’t matter” to you then why do you even play the game?
Finally got around to playing it a couple years ago. Fantastic game. Intriguing story and satisfying game play that’s just unique enough to stand apart. I really really enjoyed it.
