You can still play the game offline and single player just fine. Multiplayer has never been a core feature for my playthroughs. I don’t think it ever worked particularly well.
I liked the first one alright but I remember it being a bit easy, and putting it down for rim world, a much more challenging game in the same vein. Guess I’ll wait and see on this one.
I think the artstyle is ok in a vacuum. It does look bad if you look at it as a direct sequel of prison architect 1. As for paradox, it would be a new low for them if they managed to fuck up the performance for this game by releasing it early, the only problem I can really see are bugs and they usually aren’t gamebreaking (for the pdx games I’ve played at launch - c:s2 and vic3). I just hope it isn’t treated as a cash grab by the higher ups. As long as they don’t release it before it is ready the game will be fine, but we know paradox will crunch the developers to release early. I’m mainly just worried about the dlc.
Idk I think the new art style is good. They probably didn’t want it looking like Rimworld anymore and wanted to have 3D for the verticality that was lacking in the original.
It looks a lot like Prison Architect. What’s up with that?
Blame my (Tynan’s) lack of art skill - especially with characters. I made the character art you see in the trailer as a stopgap, and borrowed the Prison Architect style because I’m not a good enough artist to develop a new one. They were never intended to be final. With this Kickstarter, we’ll be able to get a real artist who can sit down and develop an original style for RimWorld.
I’ve talked with the original Prison Architect artist, Ryan Sumo, and he’s fully supportive of RimWorld. We didn’t share any art or code with the PA guys.
Opened dialogue, genuinely listened to pirates, and took steps to make his products more appealing and less hostile (eg removed all DRM in a time when everything was super DRM ).
It’s one of my favorite games, and now is a good time to play it! It gives me a similar feeling to Halo where humanity itself is on the backfoot and nearly extinct the whole time, yet enduring as best it can. The difference being that you’re controlling a city fighting the snowpocalypse rather than a cyber-soldier fighting aliens.
