Where do you find new games nowadays? (Both singleplayer + multiplayer) angielski

Hi all, I know this question has probably been posted on the internet millions of times, yet I would like to receive some Lemmy-oriented answers. :) What are your favorite places, websites, or creators for discovering new games in your favorite genres?

arudesalad,

Front page of GOG and Steam + the steam next fest when it is on

arudesalad,

I’m not on linux, but I heard star citizen works and it’s running a free to play event right now until the 26th of May.

If you don’t like Easy Anti Cheat I would avoid it.

arudesalad,

This was too late. Paradox’s in house development studio did the same thing with Victoria 3. Do something way too greedy (lock historical characters behind a preorder for a dlc that was already bad). Waited to see the backlash, and when it was too much, they make the bonuses free.

At least they’re doing something, but the dlc should have been pushed back at launch.

arudesalad,

I am actually planning on not buying anything more from paradox if they fuck up the launch of eu5, only dlc from current games (if they’re worth it/required)

arudesalad,

But it does, sadly.

arudesalad,

It is a shame they’re such a greedy company because, similarly to what you said in your 3rd paragraph, they make good games, some can be as good as games like factorio at times, but it’s always ruined by their dlc.

You mentioned free updates at the end, I believe they are doing that for victoria 3, but their first big expansion for the game, spheres of influence, comes out in June so we’ll see if they stick to that.

I love paradox games and have the money to by their dlc most the time and will keep buying the ones I want (because the beach dlc was too far even for the largest paradox shills) as long as the game’s stability and the free players are prioritised, unlike the way they have been treated in cities: skylines 2.

And yes, fuck paradox, shame their games are ruined by their greed.

arudesalad,

I think they did the same thing with anno 1800, only difference is they haven’t cracked it yet so no dlc on the pirated version.

arudesalad,

Invasive, non cosmetic, overpriced microtransactions.

And also locking entire updates behind dlc like how paradox interactive did (and still kind of does)

arudesalad,

Have they even given a timeframe for when mods will release because I haven’t seen them say anything about it since launch, I’m assuming because another team is developing it.

arudesalad,

I think the artstyle is ok in a vacuum. It does look bad if you look at it as a direct sequel of prison architect 1. As for paradox, it would be a new low for them if they managed to fuck up the performance for this game by releasing it early, the only problem I can really see are bugs and they usually aren’t gamebreaking (for the pdx games I’ve played at launch - c:s2 and vic3). I just hope it isn’t treated as a cash grab by the higher ups. As long as they don’t release it before it is ready the game will be fine, but we know paradox will crunch the developers to release early. I’m mainly just worried about the dlc.

arudesalad,

The subsidies have never saved me from failing before, they only make me fail slower (if that makes sense). It might just be something I’m experiencing though.

arudesalad,

That’s what I was trying to say. It looks good if you don’t view the new game as just “more prison architect 1” instead of an entire new game

arudesalad,

I got foxhole and oxygen not included on the last say of the steam winter sale and they are both amazing games

arudesalad,

Colonials. I am solo right now but I never do anything without other soldiers

arudesalad,

I already own the game so this is more of a reccomendation.

Civ6 is only £5 right now and all the dlc only costs £20 in the bundle. It’s an easy game to reccomend for anyone who is even a little interested in strategy games.

arudesalad,

They’re going to find a way to release the films with bugs and release a day one patch

arudesalad,

Deep rock galactic

Europa Universallis 4 (with the dlc)

Space station 14

arudesalad,

Modded minecraft, civ (but that might not be the type of game your looking for) and maybe factorio

arudesalad,

I did miss the survival part

arudesalad,

Dont starve together is a good one like another commenter said, I don’t know if it’s couch co-op but when you buy it on steam, you get a free second copy to give to your friend you’re playing with (at least when I bought it)

arudesalad,

Just started playing cities: skylines 2 (with gamepass, I didn’t preorder) and I think it’s good. The performance, while bad, isn’t as bad as people are saying. I’m on low settings + 1080p with a gtx 1650 super, and a ryzen 7 5700x and I get around 20-30 frames, which is bad but not unplayable and there will be mods that improve this.

arudesalad,

What would the fps be on a (similar) released game with the same specs and settings?

arudesalad,

It’s not going to be worse than KSP2. KSP2 launched with game breaking bugs and all of the new features missing (and some of the old ones) as well as bad performance on ALL graphic settings no matter the specs. CS2 has features that differ it from the first game and the performance issues (allegedly) can be fixed by turning settings down (unlike KSP2). Both games launched (or will launch) without modding support which is really bad for both games.

arudesalad,

This is the best thing nintendo have ever said

arudesalad,

I meant that this is something that not many other companies would say. And it doesn’t matter if it’s the law, big companies still prevent it from happening.

The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion - 25-09-2023 (lemmy.world) angielski

Have you been spending hours trying to pass a level? Or maybe you are completely addicted to a newly bought game. Do you have a question about a game or would like to share something else? In the Weekly Discussion Thread, you can do it all!...

Do you find the description Live Service Game off-putting? angielski

Over the years, there’ve been various red flags in gaming, for me at least. Multi-media. Full-Motion Video. Day-One DLC. Microtransactions. The latest one is Live Service Game. I find the idea repulsive because it immediately tells me this is an online-required affair, even if it doesn’t warrant it. There’s no reason for...

arudesalad,

In anno 1800 (which is the only game I’ve played with denuvo) it still needs to have a connection to the ubisoft servers to run, so live service isn’t just about dodging 3rd party drm

arudesalad,

If you ignore the server performance issues and bugs, star citizen is completely playable on my system and I have below reccomended specs (for starfield & star citizen). If star citizen can have no loading screens with most planets as populated (or more populated) then starfield’s planets while also having to manage server resources, then starfield has almost no excuse to have loading screens.

arudesalad,

Quick! Now is the best time to spend your rent money on mountains of pdx dlc!

arudesalad,

I think your just playing games that don’t have a grid. I still play a lot of games with a grid. If you want a strategy game that has a grid, my dad has been playing a lot of jagged alliance 3 and has been saying very positive things about it.
