Tetsuo, do games w Cyberpunk 2077's Ukrainian localisation takes the piss out of Russia's war

Well I can’t read that article without accepting cookies.

Too bad ¯_(ツ)_/¯

SolOrion,

It’s a couple dialogue lines-

one of Cyberpunk 2077’s Ukrainian dialogue line alters “We’re fucking through” to a Ukrainian phrase that roughly means “Go fuck yourself in the same direction as the ship did”.

One line of police dialogue referring to the game’s Scavengers faction has been altered from the English “Couldn’t all these assholes bite it out in the Badlands?” to a Ukrainian phrase that translates as “Couldn’t all this rusnia bite it out in the Badlands?”

Some of the phrasing in the inventory-

There are also apparent references on inventory screens to Ukrainian state messaging during the war. “‘Є перевага’ literally means ‘there is an advantage’,” Tarasov told me. "A reference to the governmental digital initiatives’ branding during Zelensky’s tenure

And some graffiti-

There also appears to be brand new graffiti in the game that references Russia’s occupation of Crimea in 2014. “The graffiti represents the outlines of Crimea, the peninsula that was illegally annexed from Ukraine by russia in 2014,” Tarasov told me. “Juxtaposed are the Ukrainian coat of arms and taraq tamga (the symbol of Crimean Tatars).” The suggestion is that in Cyberpunk 2077’s world, Crimea is part of Ukraine.

some jrpgs still suffer from tiny text (looking at you Switch)

@Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg avatar

I mean most games can’t even bother to give colorblind people a slider or a palette of colors to change the red outlines and tints they put on things. That’s a way easier problem to solve than variable sized text in a UI.

hydroel, (edited ) do games w The next Sims game will be free-to-play with paid DLC

The Sims 4 base game is already free. So if I’m understanding this correctly, EA, of all game publishers, is announcing that, against all odds, a free-to-play game with in-game MTX is an efficient business model that they want to promote? This might not be related at all that the Sims has always been a license that caters to the general, not particularly gamer audience.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

With Sims 4 already being F2P this announcement just means they are once again going to resell the same content back to you at a premium. Piecing up their game even more.

CileTheSane, do gaming w Why are there so many bloody roguelikes or roguelites, and what really makes a game roguish?
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

The popularity is because they are easy to pick up and put down. If I want to go back to an RPG that I haven’t touched on months I need to try to remember where I was going, what my build was doing, and how to deal with the things I was fighting. If I want to go back to FTL that I haven’t played on years I just start a new run anyways, and all my ship unlocks are there if I want them.

Ephera,

I would argue that a substantial reason for their popularity is also just that devs have fun when developing them.

With most other genres, you’ve seen the story a gazillion times, you’ve done each quest a thousand times etc… It just gets boring to test the game and it becomes really difficult to gauge whether it still is fun to someone who isn’t tired of it.

Meanwhile with roguelikes, the random generation means that each run is fresh and interesting. And if you’re not having fun on your trillionth run, that’s a real indicator that something needs to be added or improved.

mohab, do games w Unbelievably, we have a choice of kaiju clean-up games

Yeah, I thought this was dope.

We don’t have enough good Kaiju games, IMO. Inaba robbed us of Project G.G. or Kamiya messed up, IDK. But they need to work it out and finish that project at some point.

Maybe Clovers can buy the IP if Okami 2 is a hit, who knows. I doubt Platinum would mind.

dil,

giant monsters are underutilized, want one with traversal heavy combat and destruction

dil,

When monero based game store?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

The user experience of Monero is poor.

While it is true that getting your first credit card isn’t exactly a 10 second ordeal, people at least have their credit card. How are people going to acquire their first Monero?

Petter1,

If people have to, they will find a way😇

Laser,
  1. Install Cake Wallet on phone
  2. Setup Monero Wallet
  3. Click “Buy”

It’s not that difficult

With a name like that I half expected a Monty Python themed game.

Vodulas,

I mean, Arthurian legend/the quest for the grail has been around for like a long time before Monty Python.

Rocketpoweredgorilla,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

Well yes, the story of Arthur goes back centuries, that’s where they got the idea from for the movie. It’s just that to me “Tainted Grail” sounded like something right up their alley.

Vodulas,

Oh, that kind of taint. Having played the game instead thinking about it in the corrupted sense
