The default should be “I’m horny” but unless I specify you have to guess who I’m horny for.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

No shade to my Ace friends intended. Totally possible to be horny for art or rock collecting or whatever. Doesn’t have to be a sexy thing. I’m horny for none of the above is totally valid.

People tend to think of digital things as unchanging and permanent but that isn’t really the case. I’m fascinated by the concept of bit rot and other ways that digital things can disappear or degrade over time.

It’s good that flash is not still an essential part of the modern Internet but its death did firmly cut off an entire era of Internet culture that cannot be experienced in quite the same way.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

If you can run 4k at high frame rates then sure but the performance hit can be huge and a lot of displays can only do 4k at 30Hz anyway which isn’t worth it when 1440p is usually an option.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

In their defense many people are exceptionally dumb.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

People think that frame rate isn’t very noticeable until you give them access to a toggle that lets them double it.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

I don’t really engage with the online mechanics in Elden Ring… Maybe I should? I’ve put hundreds of hours into the game otherwise. I rate and leave messages but I’ve never summoned help for co-op or invaded people except for Varre’s quest where I always just get obliterated by people who are way better prepared than me.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

I like a lot of FFXII even though I get why it isn’t as beloved as others.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

Performance was ‘okay’ on my RTX2080 but I had to return it because the EA launcher was breaking steam controller input which made it unplayable.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

Playing GBA games on the Steam Deck and then going back to a real GBA is kind of hilarious. The GBA screen is even worse than I remember.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

It’s kind of crazy how off the rails this series got later down the line.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

Besides the Sony account drama (I don’t care about multiplayer), anyone know how this actually runs performance-wise? I usually assume these ports scale well since it’s a PS4 game but Sony launches have been all over the place.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

I think you’re on to something actually. Back when Saints Row 3 came out I read an article explaining how it’s childish irreverence toward gender was actually sort of progressive. In character creation there is a boob slider and a dick slider (with insane proportions for both), character voice doesn’t have to match the body type, there are no gender restrictions on clothing, characters are available to romance no matter your gender, etc.

Basically the game was so unrestrained and goofy that it subverted some uncomfortable gaming tropes like boob sliders by just letting players do whatever they wanted and not taking it too seriously.

I’m quite partial to the basketball-sized black sphere with a lit fuse sticking out of it.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

I still have fun watching other people discover it.

When people are over at my house and we are just hanging around doing nothing I like to put on a game and toss a controller to someone with no explanation and just let them play while everyone watches. Goose Game, Donut County, ABZU and Journey are always a hit even for people that aren’t normally into video games.

Burnout and that free off-road ATV game that came along with the later PS2s are both responsible for my taste in music.

It’s utterly ridiculous how copyright law has been twisted to erode the very idea of ownership. Does it have software on it? Well then it’s not just against the terms of service… It’s illegal!

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

Rimworld is primarily CPU bound. It’s potentially my favorite game ever.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

None of the first party games are slow or laggy.

Links Awakening runs like ass most of the time. I’d consider it’s performance pretty poor for a first party title. Generally though you’re right.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

Every time I think about this sort of thing I remember that in Fallout 3 the developers added a moving train to the game by making the train a hat that was worn by a man that ran really fast underneath the ground to make the train move.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

The narrative is something that can really only be experienced once. It’s a game I really enjoyed but I haven’t had an urge to play it again.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

I sort of feel like it’s correctly-rated. It’s a serviceable third person cover shooter with an interesting setting and some great visuals. The reveal of “you’re the real monster here” has a good amount of impact but it’s hard to totally land that message when the game offers no alternative.

The main problem was that all that was a bit of a pleasant surprise. The good parts of the game were sort of hidden behind the disguise of a generic military shooter. The box art couldn’t possibly be more boring. It sold very poorly and gained momentum later for being actually good.

It’s a bummer to see it leave Steam knowing that less access to it will mean less people get to check it out.

He’s a completely insane horny man that loves action movies. His games tend to be high quality and even when they aren’t good they are at least entertaining and try something new.

He may have gone full George Lucas at this point though where he’s so overhyped that no one second guesses him at all. Death Stranding had some weird shit even for Kojima. I wonder what he could make if his personality wasn’t so dominant in a game and it had some input from other creative visions to reign in his weirder ideas.

Real life sucks so that’s a low bar for VR to surpass.

You’ve just summed up the last 40 years of antitrust.

What are some hidden indie gems nobody knows about? angielski

Which indies did you discover and would love more people to know about? I’ll start: The Pale Beyond. Not sure if it’s a hidden gem tbh, but it’s such a good story rich game. I laughed, I cried and felt the characters struggles. If you like story rich games/ choices matter, check it out.

Hypnospace Outlaw is hilarious and perfectly captures the weirdness of the early Internet.

Also don’t forget to talk to your kids about the dangers of shonking.

I’m so behind on Pokemon that I genuinely can’t tell if this is a Pokemon or a Pal.

What's your favorite game that you will NEVER finish? angielski

This question popped into my head when I was playing Void Stranger. I just got done with the game and will probably never play it again despite not finishing it. The game is genuinely amazing but it just gets so demanding as you progress through it. I ended up watching the second half of the game on YouTube....

Fallout: New Vegas.

Love the game, it’s potentially the best in the series. But I’ve hit the same game-ending glitch twice. Basically at a certain point an important faction decides to become completely hostile towards me despite me having positive faction rep and despite lots of tweaking with console commands to try to work around the problem.

I’d even restored a save from ten hours prior to triggering the bug and still had the problem once I progressed a quest line.

Super frustrating. I’ve experienced a lot of the early game multiple times but never gotten to the end of any of the major quest lines.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

Don’t tell Nintendo, but I play Switch games on my PC and Steam Deck anyway.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

This seems fine. I don’t understand the desire to have an overarching chronology anyway. It’s pretty clear each game is its own world with little connection to the other series beyond recycling some of the same concepts.

It makes more sense lore-wise to just think of them as entirely separate universes with some direct sequels. Majora’s Mask is a direct sequel that takes place in a canonically different dimension anyway so they already introduced the concept.

Commit crimes in a smart way that doesn’t hurt other people. Don’t brag about your crimes publicly and don’t publicly announce that you’re going to commit more crimes after you’ve already been caught.

Freedom lies in the gray area between what is permitted and what is forbidden. Laws exist for a reason but there’s no sense in being a dumbass about it.

Is HDR generally unavailable on Linux right now? I primarily game on a Windows desktop but I’m considering trying to make my next build in a few years the equivalent of a “Steam Deck Console” but I’ve been trying to anticipate issues that might make it too limited or frustrating to use.

Digital Foundry - Redfall's 60fps patch works - but this isn't the redemption story we were hoping for (www.eurogamer.net)

“Assuming Arkane will continue development, clearly there are many areas for technical improvement, with some annoying visual glitches, oversights and outright bugs remaining in the updated code. I’m not sure that any amount of patching will make Redfall a truly good game, but Arkane has at least delivered the performance...

I’ve got such a backlog of good games that I haven’t played. Who has any time to play shit ones?

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

This term has been used for a long time but it’s largely irrelevant these days since games are patched continuously, sometimes with extremely large day one patches. It used to make more sense in the old days because it meant the game was complete and ready to ship.

Starfield players are being haunted by asteroids (www.rockpapershotgun.com) angielski

Over the weekend, Starfield players began to share reports of a strange paranormal infestation. There are asteroids in the game that, for reasons known only to gods and/or programmers, follow you from orbit to orbit, flying eerily in formation with your ship, and sometimes even accompanying you to a planet's surface. "In one of...

Is it worth it at $4 if I just want Marvel beat em up like Ultimate Alliance that looks better than UA3 on the Switch?

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

Here’s to hoping that a PC release isn’t too far off.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

People keep telling me that PC gaming is expensive and yet I pay no subscription fees and have plenty of choice for which storefront to purchase from so game prices tend to stay low outside a few exceptions.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

Same here. I bought a PS4 late in its lifecycle to catch up and then was amazed when they started bringing stuff to PC. I’ve really been missing out on some PS5 titles but I’d be much happier to play them on PC. I think I’ll probably be waiting a while for Spider-Man 2 as well.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

I think companies tend to overvalue support and undervalue software freedom. You get developer lock-in once people are trained on closed software, then they start squeezing you for every dime because they know it’s too expensive to migrate.

The next Sims game will be free-to-play with paid DLC (www.rockpapershotgun.com) angielski

Don’t these places keep their own source?

It’s easy to lose track of important files when years go by with lots of employee turnover and migrating data across servers or to the cloud.

I’m a sysadmin and more than once I’ve had to shut down a file server just to find out what is still important when someone comes looking for it.
